“ Brand: Dove / Type: Deodorant Spray / Suitable for: Body / What it does: Protects „
As with most women, deodorant is an essential for me to stop sweating and keep smelling fresh. I've tried several deodorants by the Dove brand and like them as they are gentle on the skin, containing ¼ moisturising cream, and I've never experienced any irritation with them. They are also reasonably priced. This particular deodorant was one I obtained in a travel size to take when I was going away for the weekend, but it is also available in full size.
This is a spray deodorant and is simply but attractively packaged in a white can with a blue lid. It is Dove's original anti-perspirant deodorant and bears the Dove logo. It contains no alcohol, carries the usual safety instructions (such as "do not spray on sore or broken skin") and is stated to last 24 hours.
I find this spray deodorant dries easily and fairly quickly, certainly much faster than similar roll-on deodorants. It has a basic fresh clean smell which isn't overpowering. The deodorant doesn't really produce white marks, so long as you're careful, and it doesn't irritate my skin or dry it out at all.
The deodorant is reasonably effective when I'm going about my day-to-day business, though it's not as effective as I would like when I'm at the gym or stuck on a hot sweaty tube. I don't know if I actually do sweat more than the average person or if I'm just more self-conscious, but I do prefer stronger deodorants such as the Maximum Protection version that's available. I don't find this one completely effective, but it does a reasonable job. It lasts for a decent amount of time, so is value for money.
The deodorant is priced at just over £2 for the full 150ml size, which is a reasonable price, and it's often available on special offer. The product is widely available at Boots, Superdrug, supermarkets and other stores.
I might buy this again if I was a bit strapped for cash or it was on special offer, but I do prefer the more intensive deodorants nowadays as I do find them more effective.
Some time ago, my wife told me that she absolutely loves Dove deodorant so when a box of 12 of these came up for auction recently at a local auction house, I paid £8 for them and duly presented them as a gift to my wife.
It could have been misinterpreted as an indication that I thought she smelled awful, but I think we know each other well enough by now after 125 years (well, it seems that long) and she appreciated the sentiment.
In that strange way that women have of showing their gratitude, she told me that it was the roll-on she liked. True to type, and being a simple man, I naively had thought that Dove deodorant is Dove deodorant. Apparently not. Stupid Boy!
I'll spare you the details, but my thoughtful gift was passed straight back to me and I now have 11+ bottles to use up myself.
This liquid product comes in a decent sized bottle, holding 75ml and it is such a pretty pale pink colour. It is in a pump spray and you just need a couple of squirts to smell like a nice sweet boy.
It isn't my chosen scent but if it's a better smell than sweaty armpits, which it is, then I am happy to use it up. The product is branded as Anti-Perspirant Deodorant but is also 25% Moisturising Cream.
It's made by Unilever - contains no alcohol and is dermatologically tested.
It was October the 31st, a dismal autumn night of the kind youd expect. Outside my window the rain lashed down and inside, the party decorations gleamed in the artificial light. I looked at my pale face in the mirror, my black hair and dark eyes like pools of shadow in the reflection. I reached for my own brand of magic, my trusty Dove deodorant. With a lacy little black dress, there could be no risk of white marks. If I waited patiently for a couple of minutes after application, I knew I was not to be disappointed.
The blue and white bottle carried the gold dove symbol. Somehow, damage had occurred in the carrier bag on the way back from Superdrug, rendering the normally innocuous bird into a batlike image. A shiver ran down my spine, although it read 24h Day Long Protection, the chances are it would be equally good for 12 hours of night time. I pushed the contoured spray button and was shrouded in mist.
A little too shrouded! I stepped from the bathroom, gagging at the overpowering spell that had been released, the thick clouds hung in the air and the Original scent of clean washing filled my house. Like all the different dove deodorant scents in this range (Silk, Fresh Touch, Sensitive and Invisible Dry), it successfully masked the smell from the decomposing bodies from the cellar and was not unpleasant.
The mist parted and I realised in astonishment that my masked guests had let themselves in, the party was already in full swing. With the rain beating down outside, Id expected fewer and more bedraggled guests. Instead, the warm atmosphere which greeted me was invitingly busy. Maybe I had been confused? Perhaps it was the alcohol? A glance at the bottle revealed that this deodorant contained none. I rubbed my eyes and reaching for my pointed hat, I began to mingle. I felt sexy, (though smooth armpits are yet another unnecessary thing for a girl to worry about) I could be confident this time. ¼ moisturiser had done the job and there was to be no flaking or irritation.
The guests in their fancy dress looked eerily colourful, the masks preventing recognition. A strange figure pounded the organ in the corner, causing the old floorboards to vibrate underfoot. A woman with a blood covered axe in her head stood by the window, her T-shirt reading Dove Campaign for Real Halloween Beauty. It comes in all shapes and sizes. The normally draughty old house was full of laughter and steam from the damp shoes by the radiator. The heat had risen but I felt calm, collected, and not in the least sweaty.
A highwayman pushed past me, a handsome face only partially obscured by his mask and tricorn hat. It had to be The Boyfriend? I reached over to him for a kiss and noticed him lean in close to me. You smell nice he said, in a tone of surprise, the once overpowering fragrance having dimmed now to a pleasant scent. He, however, stank of Stella.
Its nothing special I replied with a mysterious smile. After all, this was no spell more advanced or more potent than any other on the market. I couldnt mislead him. But at £2.19, even the emptiest stagecoach he robbed could keep a lady in Dove.
I turned from him, keen to attend to my cauldron. It rocked in the fireplace as the flames licked at it. The bubbling ingredients were a secret recipe; Butane, Isobutane, Propane, Aluminum Chlorohydrate, Cyclomethicone, PPG-14, Butyl Ether, Parfum, Disteardimonium, Hectorite, Helianthus, Annuus, Dimethiconol, Octyldodecanol, BHT Propylene Carbonate, Alpha-Isomethyl Ionone Benzyl Alcohol ( adifferent thing to alchol apparently) Benzyl Salicylate, Butylphenyl Methylpropional, Citronellol, Coumarin, Eugenol Geraniol, Hexyl, Cinnamal, Linalool. They had power but not quite enough.
The creak of the grandfather clock getting ready to strike caught the attention of all those in the room. All eyes focused on the ornate face and carved mahogany stand as the chimes rang out. On the stroke of midnight I slunk unnoticed into the darkness of the graveyard like a dark Cinderella. I knew that this magic, despite usually good performance has a tendency to fall short of the distance in very hot conditions and with highwaymen on these roads, you cant take the risk of not reapplying.
Dove deodrant is available all over the place now and it costs about £2.10 for 150mls.
The packaging is simple and very in keeping with doves usual style, the bottle is white and the lid is blue, but lets be fair, who buys thier deodrant because of what the bottle looks like?
The company describe the deodrant as "Effective protection all day long, with 1/4 moisturising cream to take care of your skin."
The deodrant doesnt really smell of anything, it sort of smells clean like washing powder and soap. I have just had a sniff of my arm pitts and 10 hours on they still smelly vaguely like the Dove.
With 0% alcohol and 1/4 moisturiser Dove promote this deodrant as good for your skin, and it is very gentle on your skin, it drys quickly and leaves under arms soft.
I have never noticed it leaving any white marks on clothing.
I guess I think this deodrant is just "alright", theres nothing particularly bad about it but then theres nothing special about it either.
I dont trust it to keep me fresh like I do other brands, maybe its a bit too gentle for me, but I like my deodrant to spray with a bit of force when you press the nozzle, this just sort of fssshhhh's!!
The tin says 24 hour freshness but if I was going out in the evening I would reapply before I went - then again maybe I am just more sweety than your average person??
This little tin had lasted me about two weeks, which is a little less than my normal brand would but I think the tin might be a little smaller.
Smell: It smells pleasant, not of anything in particular, just like most of the dove range.
Texture: It doesn't sting, is soft, creamy, and very mild to the skin.
Product Packaging: It's quite big, the white bottle with the dove logo and font is very easily recognizable, it could've sold better if it was smaller and easier to carry around.
Price: It costs around £2.19 (prices may vary at different shops/countries) Which is normal for most good quality deodorants.
Performance: It feels a little clammy but it soon dries - do not immediately put clothes on after use, let it dry, or it will leave streaks. It lasts an average amount of time - nothing particularly long-lasting - nothing above most other deodrants. It is good value for your money.
Overall: A good thing to keep at home, as it isn't very easily carried around, is quite large and bulky, but works well for most of the day - for example around 12 hours - which is very good considering it doesn't have a very strong fragrance and is very mild.
