“ Brand: Dove / Type: Roll-on / Suitable for: Hair „
As a deodorant, this roll on is rather good. The smell is pleasant and fresh, the application is a simple roll on that glides on smoothly and it does work well as an antiperspirant. And because the deodorant is stored upside down, there is always product ready to roll on (so no skin is pulled) and I was able to use all of the deodorant. However its label of 'hair minimizing deodorant' is a little misleading I find!
I used the deodorant for around two months with no hair minimizing effects! It now lives in my gym bag and still has no effect. It does not make the hair thinner, nor make it grow any less. Many friends also tried it with the same result! The product cost me around two pounds from my local Wilkinsons but if I had paid a considerable amount I would have definitely returned the product and complained to Dove.
I would not buy the product again or recommend it, as there are Dove roll ons with better fragrances.
As with most people, a deodorant is an essential item in my toiletries bag as it stops bad smells and helps keep me fresh! I'm always looking for new deodorants to try and picked up this Dove deodorant on a shopping trip to Boots as it was on offer at half price.
Dove is a low-to-mid range of bath, shower and moisturising products, more expensive than store brands and budget buys but definitely cheaper than Lush, Soap and Glory and other premium brands. Dove products are marketed as being gentle, suitable for sensitive skin, and moisturising and are distinguished by the Dove logo and simple white packaging which is often combined with blue or other colours.
Dove deodorant is available in both aerosol and roll-on form. The packaging is usually white, but the body of the packaging, or usually the lid, is a different colour depending on the type. Kinds available include the 'Go Fresh' range consisting of Grapefruit, Water Lily and Cucumber, Silk Dry and Invisible Dry, and the Hair Minimising range comprising Nature Fresh and Wild Rose. This particular deodorant is the Hair Minimising Nature Fresh version, which comes in dusky pink packaging with a small green logo. It has a fresh scent - I've never smelled the Wild Rose version but I would imagine it would have more of a floral scent. All Dove products are made up of one quarter moisturising cream which makes them very gentle and moisturising.
***Price and Availability***
The deodorant normally costs just over £2 but is often on special offer. It is widely available at Boots, Superdrug, discount stores and supermarkets.
The deodorant is attractively packaged in a practical roll-on with the lid at the bottom - this way you don't have to worry about the roll-on drying out. The packaging is sleek, simple and attractive and it's easy to hold.
It is claimed that the Dove Hair Minimising Deodorant roll on helps to minimise hair regrowth. Having had two sessions of hair removal treatment on my underarms (free thanks to Tesco Clubcard deals and SK:N clinics!) the hair on my underarms has certainly lessened. I still shave every week or so but would be interested in reducing hair growth further so I have to shave even less often, particularly as I've noticed dragging a blade over my skin more rarely has had a very positive effect on the condition of my underarms - they are much softer and smoother. I do believe this is partly down to using Dove deodorants in general - they are always very gentle and moisturising, and they can be applied immediately after shaving without stinging. In all honesty I was sceptical of the hair minimising claim - I only chose this deodorant because there wasn't much left on the shelf and I wanted to take advantage of the offer!
I've been using the deodorant for a while now. When I first apply it I can smell a refreshing clean scent, kind of a standard deodorant smell. The scent isn't overpowering but if I stick my nose close to my armpits (which isn't something I do often - just for the purposes of reviewing!) I can still detect it. My underarms, which can sometimes be a bit dry, have felt soft and moisturised and the skin certainly hasn't been irritated, which suggests that the moisturising effect of the product is a good one. My underarms do feel silky-soft!
The deodorant doesn't claim not to leave white marks, but I haven't found it to leave any, which is definitely a positive aspect.
The deodorant sometimes takes a couple of minutes to dry, but this is something that is common to all roll-ons and it doesn't particularly bother me as I usually apply makeup before getting dressed anyway.
The deodorant performs effectively in most situations and I am kept feeling fresh all day when I go to work or come home. Sometimes if I've been out shopping during my lunch hour I get a bit hot and my underarms feel slightly damp, but I've never noticed any smell. I usually reapply again if I'm going to the gym, but not if I'm just staying at home, in which case the deodorant lasts all day with no problems.
I'm really not sure about the hair minimising aspect. I don't know how you'd really measure this sort of thing anyway. I haven't noticed any visible difference, but then since having laser treatment the hair doesn't grow so much anyway. This makes it harder to tell if the deodorant is having an effect. Clearly it can't be much or I'd probably have noticed!
Using it every day, sometimes more than once, the deodorant lasts me a couple of months which I think is good value.
In general, I like this deodorant. It's gentle, effective and value for money. I'm not sure about the hair minimising aspect, but I reckon if you want to give it a go it's probably worth it as it won't break the bank. For now I'm going to give it four stars.
I recently saw this product on a half price offer and decided to try it out. I usually use the dove deoderant products anyway and know them to be very good. The packaging is very attractive with the pale feminine pearly pink colour and soft, curvy design. I also really like the rose scent as it adds to the femininity of the product but is not too overpowering. In terms of being a hair minimising product I did not buy it for this specific purpose but I have noticed that I do not need to shave my underarms as much as before and also the hair appears to be softer which makes it easier when I do shave. I am not sure how it minimises the hair but it is very useful and the creamy richness provides moisture throughout the day. I have also used it with some black clothing and although the deoderant seems creamy when applied it didn't leave any marks on my clothes which was great. I think this shows that dove are inovative with their product ideas and I will definitely continue to use it. I'm not sure how much it costs normally but if it is on offer it is well worth a try
If this product was simply a deodorant I would probably give it more stars but in fairness it is not supposed to be just any old deodorant, it is supposed to minimise underarm hairs and as it doesn't really do that this is reflected in my rating!
As a deodorant it works reasonably well and smells quite nice. It has a well designed bottle with the roller ball at the bottom so the liquid is always in contact with the ball, making it easier to use. I have quite sensitive skin and this caused me no irritation. So far, so good...
After working my way through two bottles of this stuff I can safely say my underarm hair was no different at all in either the amount of it or the thickness of it. Suffice to say I had to carry on shaving just as normal so this product really had no effect. Therefore I have gone back to my usual deodorant, Sanex, which has a nicer smell and isn't pretending to do anything it can't!
My first impression was that i thought it looked like a smaller version of a shampoo bottle, but with a twist off lid at the bottom rather than a flip top one. The design of the roll on is made so that the roller ball is at the base of the bottle rather than the top, meaning gravity helps it coat in deodorant better, quicker and roll a lot easier.. Clever Dove!
I bought it from Superdrug, but you can buy it from Boots, BodyCare, supermarkets, etc.. as it promised that i would 'look and feel hair free for longer' - what woman doesn't want that?! I thought that because the bottle was very well designed, the deodorant would reflect the thought behind that too. But i was really, very wrong.
The smell isn't all that bad to be honest, just a flowery scent, but to me it smells a bit too much like mild air freshener. It isn't a strong or horrid smell, but it wasn't to my taste.
As for hair minimising.. I saw no results whatsoever. I used it every day for about 2 weeks and i saw no difference, my under arm hair still grew at the same rate, at the same thickness, etc - so i felt rather cheated out of the product!
Seeing as this deodorant is retailing at more than it's others in the Dove range, you'd be better off buying the cheaper oned. They'll do the same job!
I have been using this product since it was advertised on TV a few months ago and it has had a minimising effect... sort of.
Before I get into the 'nitty gritty', first things first, as a deodorant it is really good - has a slight floral scent to it and keeps me feeling fresh all day. The roll on works well, applies not too little and not too much although it does leave some around the base, which if left to dry will go all flaky and create a bit of a mess next time you take off the lid. But still not a massive problem.
So, down to the 'nitty gritty' -
Dove claims this makes you 'Look & feel hair free for longer' I was a bit sceptical at first, as I am with most seemingly too good to be true claims, and was right to be.
1 week after usage -
Absolutely no difference, not that I was expecting much too soon.
2 weeks of use -
I started to notice a slight difference under one arm, the hairs where becoming a little finer and taking longer to grow back after shaving. My other arm remained stubbornly persistent and I hoped this was just a time frame thing.
1 month of use -
The arm I had originally noticed finer hair growth on continued to get only a little finer, not much different, but taking increasingly longer times to grow back. Result! However the other arm remained the same old :( Still I was hoping that maybe it would catch up with the other.
Month 2 -
I have lost all hope for the stubborn arm, the other remained the same as month 1. Disappointed.
So I did notice a difference if only on 50% of my body. I think this probably proved the point that it is effectiveness is different person to person and so is not a 100% sure thing - hence on the back of the bottle Dove puts a question mark after the statement 'Hair Minimising?'. I think I would of liked Dove to back up their claim with some research and figures of their own, I feel a little disappointed that they as a company who have a strong ethos of campaigning for women's self esteem and 'real' beauty that they would so readily create a buzz over a product with such dubious claims just to claim a quick quid from all the hype.
I wont be buying this product again unless it is improved and backed up with at least some evidence.
erI am always looking for labour saving devises when it comes to personal hygiene as I don't get a great deal of time with a toddler and while I do find time to shave my armpits I did feel curious about this product.
The bottle is pinkish roll on bottle that states that you look and feel hair free for longer .I was actually very dubious about this product but the one thing that I did actually like is the design of the bottle. The bottle has a new design which means that the bottle is upside down and so this results in the ball been rolling much more freely than an average roll on and so easier and smoother to apply.
The bottle does give a warning not to apply to broken or irritated skin.
It contains one quarter moisturising cream and no alcohol.
The fragrance of this deodorant is a very fresh feminine smell named nature fresh which can be smelt when applied to the skin.
Unfortunately when applied it does leave my skin feeling quite sticky for a while but did eventually pass.
I don't really have an issue with perspiration but these products claims to be a twenty four hour deodorant and certainly never had any problems in this area
The biggest question about this products does it work as a hair minimising cream. In my experience there is very little difference and certainly does not have any effect on the amount of times I need to shave under my arms.
A 50mls bottle of this is currently £2.44 so significantly more expensive than any other roll on at over 50p more expensive that normal Dove roll on so is it worth it?
I would have to conclude that it would not be worth it. While there may be a slight change nothing significant enough to justify any extra expense. I do not like the sticky feeling and won't be buying this product again. I shall stick to a cheaper Roll on.
I bought this deodorant for about £2 in Superdrug. It's usually a little more expensive, and about £1 more expensive than other Dove roll-ons.
I ave it in Nature Fresh, which is a great smell. It, like the other scents (Wild Rose etc) are very subtle, natural scents and don't overpower. If you prefer a strong smelling deodorant, then this is not for you.
The packaging is really very good. The ball doesn't clog up, and it lets out just the right amount. It's also very sturdy, but unlike the Nivea ones, not made out of glass - making it lightweight and easier to take when travelling (50ml).
It definitely works as a deodorant. It even smells nice on your clothes when you take them off in the evening.
The big thing though - as far as I can tell - it doesn't make a difference to my hair growth. Sometimes I think that the hair is a little softer, but this is likely to be in my head! I guess I just really really want it to work.
Nevertheless, I will still probably buy this again - for the smell and the idea that perhaps it is working/will work some day.
This review is actually for the spray can, not the roll on, but I'm sure it has the same effect :) If not, sorry!
After seeing loads of adverts about this deoderant I thought it must be good, so I tried it out. I bought it for about £2 in Tesco.
I chose 'Silk Lily' as the scent but Wild Rose is also quite nice. I used it consistently for around 2 or 3 months, however long the can lasted and all the time I kept thinking 'maybe the hair minimising thing will work soon' but it never did.
I didn't expect it to make my underarms completely hairless, but I thought it might just slow down the growth of hair or something. However nothing happened, even after using it continuously for months.
It works well as a deodorant and - for want of a nicer sounding phrase - makes sweat smell nicer (because no deodorants really stop sweating all together, do they?) and lasts all day, but don't bother buying it for the hair minimising effect - you won't get it, so it works just the same as any normal cheapie deodorant.
I have been using this deodorant for a few months now, starting from when I saw it on offer in Boots.
So firstly does it work as a deodorant? My answer is yes. I've tried loads of deodorants and find that this is one of the few that keeps me fresh right up until bedtime. It also works well as an antiperspirant. I personally hate any deodorant I can smell, I prefer them to be as close to odorless as possible, and this fits the bill. If you want a strongly scented one this is not for you.
The main selling point for this is the hair minimising nature. I have to be honest and say I haven't really noticed any serious difference. I still need to shave as regularly. I will say that it possibly has thinned the hair, but that's clutching at straws. I just don't think that it really makes enough difference to be relevant. I don't even have dark coloured hair, but I can still definitely see it!
So in conclusion, this works very well for me as a deodorant, and I will continue to use it. However, it seems pretty useless in its hair minimising so it doesn't really do what it says on the tin!
I was really exited to hear about this hair minimising deodrant it sounded great not only will i smell nice i wont get the stubbly feeling between shaves, which every women hates! But if im being honest i was quite dissapointed. I didnt just try it once and give up i was consistand wiith this deodrant for a few weeks but have seen no change between shaves. Maybe its just not for me, others may find this really does have an effect. But aside from that it smells absoulutly gorgeous and even though i havent had less stubbles im still using it for the simple fact it smells divine with the wild rose and smells great all day! 0% alcohol so wont sting if sensitive or just bn shaved. It drys really quickly and does not leave white marks like some. Prices vary, i bought mine from boots and £2.49 but can be purchased at most supermarkets, chemist, boots and superdrug stores. Hope this review is useful.
I find it difficult to find a deodorant that I can really trust, after Sure stopped doing clear roll-ons which worked great for me and started only doing white, creamy deodorants which never seem to dry and just leave me feeling sticky. Until, I spotted an advert for Dove Hair Minimising deodorant. I had always been keen to try Dove deodorants as they claim to give you super smooth, soft underarms instead of the spotty, razor-torn wastelands that I seem to have, and here was one promising to minimise the horrid stubbly feeling inbetween shaves, bonus! So I bought the roll-on as opposed to the spray as I felt it would be more effective as a skin softener.
The packaging is the same, rather conical shape as most other roll-on deodorants on the market and is a shimmery pink colour, making it stand out from the other Dove deodorants. The liquid itself is rather viscose and a pale yellow in colour which I found rather strange, I am used to clear or white but figured it might be the magic hair zapping qualities that made it this colour!
The roll-on rolls on well, and the product has a pleasant, if strong, rather fruity scent which lasts throughout the day but I'm afraid that's where my positive points end about this product. I'm not a person who's prone to perspire profusely but I have a constant feeling of wet stickiness under my arms whenever I use the product which is very uncomfortable. I persevered with the product as I was really interested to see if the hair-minimising would happen and I can't say I saw or felt a difference. Perhaps I didn't use it for long enough but, hey, who wants hairy armpits while they're waiting! Another aspect which I wasn't keen on was that the product tends to clog and dry up around the edge of the roller ball which then flakes off and goes everywhere the next time you come to use it, a bit of a nuisance really!
So, a fairly disappointing product for me, I'm sure it works great for some people but it didn't seem to like me very much! Sticky, hairy armpits for me! Anyone want to be my friend?!
I recently saw the new Hair Minimising deodorant from Dove at a good price in Boots so I decided to try it. I figured that, since it was Dove, it would be a good deodorant and it would be interesting to see if it actually worked to minimize the hair regrowth.
To begin with I have said many times that when it comes to deodorant it has to be Dove for me. Not only does it work well at keeping me dry and odour free but it is also ideal for using straight after shaving as it does not sting. I have been known to occasionally try others but I always come back to my trusted Dove.
I always go for the roll on version, which is easy to use and it always dries almost instantly, which is a big advantage for any roll on deodorant. Many times in the past I have used other roll on deodorants and have ended up walking round the bathroom flapping my arms up and down trying to dry my deodorant before I could get dressed.
So which one did I choose?
Looking in the roll on section of the Dove range there is still a choice to be made - there's Dove Original, Dove Sensitive, Dove Pro Age and Dove Fresh Touch - and now there is Dove Hair Minimising which is supposed to minimise the regrowth of underarm hair.
I wasn't convinced that this would work in any way other than the deodorising but I decided to try it anyway. I chose the Nature Fresh one and it cost me £2.44 for a 50ml container in Boots. It is all plastic so it is recycleable, which is a good point as far as I am concerned.
What did it look like?
The container of the Dove roll on deodorants has undergone a bit of a revolution in recent times. They have got rid of the old curved shaped container and brought in a new bullet shaped one which now stands the other way up with the roll on ball at the base of the container rather than at the top. It's about time as far as I am concerned! I always used to balance the deodorant container upside down in the cupboard to try and get the last bit out and now I don't have to so well done Dove! As far as I am concerned every little helps in the current economic climate.
This one is a pretty pale pink in colour with a screw cap and the label on the front tells us that it is 'anti perspirant and deodorant' and you will 'look and feel hair free for longer'.
How do you use it?
Having unscrewed the cap you find a fairly big ball, if you'll pardon the expression, which makes actually applying the deodorant to your underarms nice and easy. The deodorant always runs freely and I have never had any problem with it drying out, especially now the container has been improved.
As with all Dove products this deodorant is one quarter moisturising cream and it smells lovely. It is a delicate flowery sort of smell similar to the fragrance of baby powder and it is really fresh and pleasant.
The deodorising and antiperspirant effect lasts all day even in hot weather, and when I am out in the garden sawing and chopping wood for our log burner, although I am currently banned from doing that whilst I am nursing my broken toe!
The only minor flaw that I found with the new design was that, after I had used the deodorant, and replaced the cap I often find that there is a small amount of the deodorant around the seal where the cap met the main container. A quick wipe soon solves this small problem though.
Does it work or is it a gimmick?
So does the hair minimising effect actually work? Well I did just about notice that the hairs under my arms grew back slightly less dense than they would otherwise have done but there was not enough difference to make it worth buying for the hair minimising effect alone.
I have to say that, as usual with Dove, I am very impressed with this deodorant - it works well, it isn't expensive and it smells lovely; although I don't think that the small difference it makes to the hair growth is worth making a special purchase so I shall just buy it if it is on offer.
As it is a roll on, it is in a small container making it ideal to take on holiday, and as it contains no propellant it can be taken on an aeroplane with no fear of explosions.
The other advantage of using a roll on deodorant is that it is kind to the environment, as it does not contain any CFC gases.
I will still give this product 4 stars as, although the hair minimising side of the deodorant doesn't really work very well, the antiperspirant and deodorant properties are still excellent!
I hate having underarm hair, I really don't see the point of it but I hate hair removal creams as they're so messy and smelly, and refuse to have them waxed again. I once did and nearly ended up on the ceiling it was that painful.
I shave them now which I have to do every other day, it's not ideal as my skin can be a little sensitive and unless I fork out a fortune on top notch razors I tend to nick the skin, ouch.
I thought my prayers had been answered when I spotted a new deodorant advertised by Dove, one that is hair minimising as well as keeping you sweet and fresh, sounded perfect. I found it for sale in Boots and was was almost put off my the price, over £2, but thought if it's going to help me shave less often surely it's worth it? hmmmmmm I'm not so sure now.
I've been using this deodorant for two months now and I cant see any reduction in my underarm hair, it's still there in all it's "glory". so in that sense I think this stuff is a waste of time. As a deodorant however it's very good. It smells good, goes on well without too much mess (though I have to wipe the rim of the roll on after use) and it keeps me smelling fresh all day.
If this was a bog standard roll on and half the price I would happily buy it again but as it is I don't think it's worth the money and is something of a gimmick. Save your cash for proper hair removal instead
