“ Brand: Dove / Type: Antiperspirant / Suitable for: Body / What it does: Rejuvenates, Protects, „
I seem to be really sensitive to changes in temperature, I particularly suffer when it gets warmer. I hate feeling sweaty and have tried several antiperspirants in the past but either they weren't any good or I had a reaction. One I used even made me sweat more which was a nightmare!
I love Dove's deodorants and was really pleased to see they'd brought out a powerful antiperspirant just in time for summer as I needed something strong but gentle.
Dove Maximum Protection is designed for women and gives high protection from wetness but still cares for delicate underarm skin. It contains Dove's signature 1/4 moisturising cream and is scientifically proven to prevent wetness. It also claims to be 2x stronger than the leading antiperspirant and lasts for 48 hours.
The antiperspirant itself comes nicely packaged in an attractive box with the usage instructions and ingredients clearly printed on the back.
The actual product is a plastic container with a removable cap. Inside this is a core of cream with a twistable mechanism on the bottom that works much like a glue stick. You twist this and the cream is pushed up through holes in the top to give even distribution. The container has 45ml of product inside and is priced between £4.50 and £7.50 depending on where you buy it.
How To Use:
Dove recommends that you use this antiperspirant just before going to bed as your body regulates temperature better at this time and you will be protected throughout the following day. The recommended amount is 2 clicks of the winder per underarm, you can also use it in the morning.
Smooth the product across your skin, replace the cap and go. It dries in seconds so no zombie-arm walk to the kettle!
I was desperate for this product to work as I've never reacted badly to the Dove brand and had been looking for a good antiperspirant for ages.
I dutifully waited until just before bed and followed the instructions on the packaging before turning in for the night. Come the following day I went about my routine without applying any more of the product which felt strange as I'm so used to applying deodorant after washing but before getting dressed. However the instructions state that it will work from the previous night even after a shower so off I went.
By lunch time after the first use I'd been quite busy and it was a warm day. My underarms were a little moist but nowhere near as wet as they would usually be in similar circumstances, plus no adverse reaction whatsoever. By the evening and after carrying armfuls of shopping home however I was sweating a little more. Still an improvement but not completely dry.
After a week of sticking to using the product this way I was pretty happy but decided to try applying 2 clicks at night and 1 click in the morning to see if I had better results.
Hey presto! It worked! Adding that little bit extra in the morning made all the difference and I was dry all day. I haven't tried it with really strenuous exercise yet but I don't really do much of that anyway...
Maybe I'm particularly sweaty but I don't think it would last 48 hours unless you were pretty relaxed most of the time, also I think you still need a little top-up in the morning.
A quick note on the scent: I've been using the original scent which is very mild and smells of creamy unscented moisturiser. I love the other scents in the range and although I've only given them a brief sniff on this product they were all subtle and pleasant.
I would definitely recommend this product if you want effective protection against wetness caused by sweating and don't want harsh ingredients on your skin.
My only concern is the price is a bit on the high side considering how much product you get and having to use a bit more than stated, hopefully the price will come down over time.
I'm not sure if I actually sweat more than the average person, or if I'm just more conscious about feeling clean, but I often find that normal deodorants and antiperspirants aren't quite strong enough for me. I've used the Sure Maximum Protection deodorant before and have been impressed, so when I saw that there was a Dove alternative I went out to buy it. I like the Dove brand as it is gentle and suitable for sensitive skin, and their products are moisturising, containing ¼ moisturising cream. The description of this deodorant states that it is for "women seeking maximum wetness protection whilst caring for their underarm skin". Unfortunately maximum wetness protection comes with a maximum price - it is around £5 which is much more than most deodorants.
This deodorant comes in a white box stating that it is a "48 hour anti-perspirant deodorant cream" with the "Original Clean" scent. It has been dermatologically tested and designed to provide scientifically proven wetness protection. Instructions state that you are supposed to apply the product to your underarms before going to bed, as while resting the formula has a chance to work and provide protection lasting through the following day, even after a shower (though you can also apply it in the morning). A leaflet included in the box explains why: at night your body temperature is lower, your sweat glands are at their least active and skin is more receptive.
For optimal effect, apply Dove maximum protection to underarms before going to bed. While resting, the Dove maximum protection formula provides scientifically proven wetness protection. This protection lasts throughout the following day, even after a shower. Dove maximum protection can also be applied in the morning. The recommended dose for each underarm is 2 clicks.
Are anti-perspirants safe?
The leaflet inside the box discusses this issue, pointing out that anti-perspirants have been used for more than 60 years and the overwhelming evidence indicates that they are safe. A freephone number and a website address, www.antiperspirantsinfo.com, are provided for more information. I checked out the site briefly and there are numerous links to articles and websites, including scientific journals, although it should be pointed out that the site is run by Unilever who make and sell anti-perspirants so they have a vested interest in making you willing to buy them! Personally, I am happy to continue using and buying anti-perspirants: though I have tried a number of natural deodorants (out of curiosity more than anything) with varying degrees of success nothing works as well as a proper antiperspirant and I don't believe there is currently enough evidence to suggest that they are unsafe.
The deodorant is easy to use and apply. You simply twist the bottom of the plastic container and see the product coming out of the holes at the top. The first time you use it, you have to twist it several times but after this, you only need to do it a couple of times. Dove recommend two twists per underarm. The product is easily applied and dries quickly, without drying out or irritating skin.
First, despite misgivings, I decided to try this product as suggested, by applying it overnight. I did so after my evening post-gym shower, went to sleep and showered the following morning as usual, without applying deodorant. I headed off to work to see what would happen (taking another deodorant with me just in case!).
I found that I seemed to sweat a little bit, but it was kept under control, if that makes sense. It was better than with some deodorants I've tried and certainly better than nothing! I was pleasantly surprised at this as it just didn't make sense to me that a deodorant could last overnight and still work the next day. This way, you also have the advantage of no white marks on clothes, because the deodorant has sunk in hours before you get dressed.
I won't be using it at night again, because I do think it is more effective during the day, and also because often I shave my underarms in the morning and can't see how the deodorant could continue to work after that! Also, applying the deodorant after an evening shower is all very well but on the days when I don't go to the gym, I don't fancy applying it onto unwashed skin!
Applying this deodorant in the morning, there is a slight risk of white marks but this can largely be avoided if you wait a short while before dressing (it does dry quickly) and are careful when putting your clothes on. Used this way, it lasts all day, even on the hot Tube, and when going to the gym. It is certainly effective and keeps me fresh, confident and feeling clean all day.
I have removed one star from this product because of the high price but otherwise I am very impressed and will probably continue to buy it alongside the Sure version - both brands are made by Unilever so are pretty much the same! The Dove & Sure Maximum Wetness Protection deodorants are the most effective I've ever tried and for this reason I'm willing to pay a bit more.
I'm never loyal to a particular deodorant, I tend to flit between whatever is on sale and every month I do my cosmetics stop where I'll buy things like lotions, face wipes and deodorant. On average, I think I'll spend around £5 a month on deodorants, gravitating towards products that promise dryness and protection throughout the day but I couldn't find 'that' perfect deodorant. I'm a nurse and I spend my shifts running around the wards which almost guarantees wet patches so I tried applying more deodorant throughout the day which left white stains on my clothes that would only come out after washing them 2 or 3 times. Finding a good deodorant was really tough until I came across this deodorant.
around £5.30 from boots and super drug
this product can be easily missed on the shelf. With all the other deodorants standing out with colourful bright packaging and sleek cans and roll on bottles I felt that I had to have a good look on the shelf. The product comes in a small box and inside is a basic cream deodorant stick that has a clicker to administer the product (dove recommends that 2 clicks should be enough). It comes in the neutral dove scent, cucumber and pomegranate and I find that all 3 scents are subtle and have that freshness that releases all day. Dove also recommends that the product should be used at night to allow the product to really sink into your skin so it can work at its best when your body is at its optimum temperature during the day which I was slightly nervous about, but I thought I'd give it a try!
First of all the stick was very easy to use, 2 clicks suited me fine and I applied it to my underarms just before bed. The cream was spread evenly around my skin with minimum effort and didn't leave those annoying white marks on my top when I pulled it back on. I used this product for a few days when I was off work and around he house to try it out and I was pleasantly surprised to find that not a drop of perspiration survived on my underarms and they felt, quite frankly, fabulous! So the first few days went well so I figured the biggest challenge would be at work, so I stuck to the usual routine of applying at night and getting dressed in the morning without deodorant (so weird!) and headed my way into work on wad round day. I ran around all day after the doctors and patients feeling pretty flustered, and when I finally sat down with a cup of tea I could not believe that there wasn't even a hint of perspiration on my underarms. Absolutely nothing! No damp patch, not even heat! And I also noticed that I still smelled and felt as fresh as I did when I first applied it which as a complete bonus, and for the rest of the week I stuck to the routine (2 clicks and applying st night) and got the same results each day.
I am very pleased with the outcome of this, at £5 odds for a stick deodorant I was skeptical as it seemed like a lot for just the one deodorant (I usually purchase 2 or 3 cans for the same price) but the stick has lasted more than a month and I've achieved the same results as the first use. Sweat patches was something I felt rather paranoid about, I don't have problems with excess sweating but when things get too much and I'm particularly busy it's very noticeable which I was wary of but since using this product it's something I can strike off my worry list.
I would highly recommend this to any hard working woman who would rather have wet patches and excess sweating as a thing of the past! There are 3 different scents to suit your style which are feminine and subtle, and the price is fantastic for such a high quality product.
~Dove Maximum Protection~
Dove Maximum Protection is an anti-perspirant cream which has been scientifically proven to provide protection from underarm wetness. It is a 48 hour anti perspirant and is dermatologically tested. As with many other Dove products, this deodorant has 1/4 moisturising cream.
Dove Maximum Protection is available in three scents : original clean, cucumber and green tea and also pomegranate and lemon verbena. I am reviewing the original clean scent. This anti-perspirant is best used when applied to underarms before bed as this allows it to work into your skin as you sleep and is said to be effective even after showering the next day. It is recommended that you do not apply this anti-perspirant to damaged or broken skin.
Dove Maximum Protection is a cream stick which is packaged within a white, opaque, plastic casing which is quite slim and easy to store. When new, a foil seal is used for freshness. There is a little clicker dial at the base of the stick and it is recommended that you twist this dial twice for each underarm application. The inner stick is visible through the casing and this means I am able to see how much is left. The cream is pushed up through lots of little holes underneath the lid. A box is also provided and the packaging can be recycled once empty.
~Price and Availability~
This anti-perspirant isn't cheap. It is available from Boots and supermarkets priced around £5.00 for a 45ml stick.
I am a really heavy sweater and most days, a regular anti-perspirant isn't strong enough to fill me with confidence that my arms are dry and not smelly. I normally use Sure Maximum Protection which is the same price as the Dove version. My Mum likes to add a little extra bundle of beauty products to our Christmas bag each year and usually selects a few 'everyday essentials' to save us a bit of money. She asked my sister which anti-perspirant I used and my sister thought it was Dove so she bought this one rather than my usual Sure. Some may be quite offended by receiving anti-perspirant as an extra gift but I was very pleased as buying this type of anti-perspirant proves to be very expensive.
I was using up my Sure anti-perspirant at the time of receiving this Dove version so didn't get to use it straight away. I have been using it now for around four weeks and still have 1/3 left. I used to go through a can of regular anti-perspirant per week so a stronger version actually does work out better value for money for me personally. I would say that unless you are prone to heavy sweating, there is no point in shelling out for a more expensive product - a regular anti-perspirant would better suit your needs.
~Protect Me Dove~
The packaging design for this cream anti-perspirant is really good. The plastic casing is well shaped to be comfortable when in use. The clicker is easy to turn and there is a satisfying 'click' to confirm that you have turned it enough. The cream seeps up through the little holes. It is quite thick and white in colour. I find this anti-perspirant very easy to apply. The top of the stick is very smooth and the cream glides across my underarms without any discomfort or dragging sensation. The two click recommendation is just right in my opinion as any more can result in too much cream being applied and this results in mess and wastage.
I would agree with the recommendation of applying this at night time. Once rolled onto skin, it feels a little heavy at first and a little bit sticky feeling. The cream is very gentle and doesn't nip even after shaving my underarms. The cream takes a while to sink into my underarms and leaves my underarms feeling soft and smooth. I would say the Dove version is even nicer to have on my underarms as it is creamier than Sure and has the extra moisturising cream present. This anti-perspirant has a pleasant scent which I consider to be a 'classic Dove' scent - clean, fresh and not too overpowering.
If applied in the evening before bed, I am able to put my jammies on without my top sticking to my underarms. I haven't experienced any white marks or stains to my clothing from using this anti-perspirant. After a short while, I don't even notice that I am wearing this as it starts to sink in. With regular anti-perspirants, I wake up with sweaty underarms. With Dove, my underarms are left dry and free from odour.
When I first started trying these maximum protection anti-perspirants, I didn't like the idea of not applying it in the morning. To be honest, most mornings I do slick a little on and leave it to sink in for a while but if I am in a rush to do the nursery run, I find that it isn't essential that I apply anymore if I have applied this the night before. I shower daily (sometimes twice a day) and my underarms still feel protected after washing and drying off.
I find Dove Maximum Protection to be highly effective. I can go about my daily routine, go out on a fast paced walk, do housework etc and be confident that my underarms are beautifully protected. I sometimes get the feeling that my underarms 'feel' damp but I think this is all in my head as a quick touch of them confirms they are completely free from wetness. This lasts all day and if I am having a 'lazy' weekend in my jammies, I don't feel yucky or sweaty if I forget to apply this. I find that any odour that would usually form is non-existant. My underarms are kept smelling fresh and clean all day and no smells transfer to my clothing. The scent doesn't interfere with my perfume or body spray.
I find this cream anti-perspirant to be equally as effective as the Sure version. I do favour the Sure scent a little more but the 1/4 moisturising cream in the Dove version is really good too. I haven't experienced any irritation from this cream deodorant and find it to be very kind to my sensitive underarms.
Dove Maximum Protection is very effective at leaving my underarms feeling soft and smooth, dry and also beautifully scented. It is perfect for using as a regular anti-perspirant. Applying this before bed, the protection is long lasting. It is also suitable to be applied in the morning and providing that I allow it sufficient time to absorb, it works equally as well. It is practical to use and I do not need to carry it around with me like a regular anti-perspirant as it offers day-long protection for me. It is expensive but worth every penny and I will buy it when my stick runs out.
Thanks for reading :)

The product I am reviewing is the Dove Maximum Protection Deodorant stick which is suitable for woman seeking maximum wetness protection whilst caring for their underarm skin. I currently use the Sure Maximum Protection Sensitive Deodorant how-ever recently this has been making my underarms itch a little so when I saw this product I thought I would give it a go to see if it was any kinder to my underarm skin. Dove Maximum protection has been scientifically proven to give protection against wetness and at the same time moisturises underarm skin as it contains ¼ moisturising cream which is found in all Dove products. The product claims to give 48hr protection against wetness. Although I don't suffer from underarm wetness too much I do feel a little wet under my arms sometimes which isn't a nice feeling which is why I tend to go for stronger deodorants such as Maximum Protections one's. This product comes in a range of different scents and I am actually reviewing the Cucumber & Green Tea deodorant. The product comes in a white box which states what the product is and that it's scientifically proven to help prevent wetness for 48hours. Inside the box you will find the deodorant and a leaflet which contains information about the product. The deodorant is a cream stick formula and comes in plastic packaging which again has information about the deodorant on. It also states how to use the product.

I purchased this product from my local Boots store for £5.30 but you can also purchase it from Superdrug stores and supermarkets. Please note that prices may vary.
Other scents in this range include:
* Pomegranate & Lemon Verbana Scent
* Original Clean
Using the Product

The plastic lid comes off the top of the deodorant which reveals a silver foil seal over the holes in which the deodorant dispenses. This peels off easily to reveal a circle of holes. To use the deodorant simply twist the knob at the bottom of the deodorant and you will hear a clicking sound as the cream stick moves up. It suggests applying the product to your underarms before going to bed. This protection will last throughout the following day, even after a shower. The product can also be applied in the morning. They recommend using 2 clicks per underarm. When using the product for the first time you will need to turn the dial several clicks in order for the deodorant stick to come up to the top. I followed the advice on the instructions and applied the product after a shower before going to bed. I had the turn the dial more than several time in order to get the deodorant to the top. I used the recommended 2 clicks per underarm. As soon as I applied the deodorant I could smell the lovely fresh scent which was mainly cucumber. I love the smell of cucumber anyway so really liked the fresh scent of the product. The deodorant is really easy to apply and went on very easily. It felt smooth against my skin and I couldn't even tell I was wearing any deodorant. I went to bed and would be able to tell how good the results were the following day.

I awoke the following morning and as I got ready for work I could smell the fresh scent of the deodorant which was nice as it also made me feel fresh. I went to work and carried out my normal daily routines plus some other jobs which involved moving a lot of stock, so it really put the deodorant to the test. Although I felt hot and a little sweaty my underarms weren't wet or didn't feel wet. I was surprised at how dry I actually felt and due to the lovely fresh scent of the product I wasn't worried about any smell either. My underarms stayed dry all day and I felt fresh all day. I also put the deodorant to the test on a night out. I applied the product after a shower and allowed the deodorant to dry before getting dressed. I then went out into town to a few bars which were rather warm. I had a wine coloured dress on so any wetness would show, how-ever I was very confident after using this deodorant to help keep wetness away and to give me maximum protection when I needed it. I have to admit that later on towards the end of the night I did feel as though my underarms were a little wet, how-ever when checking in the mirror there were no wet patches under my arms, thankfully. Throughout the night I would get occasional whiffs of the fresh scent of the deodorant which was nice.

In terms of the deodorant giving me protection it definitely lives up to it's claims and keeps me feeling fresh and dry throughout the day. The deodorant is also kind to my skin and I haven't experienced any irritation or dryness under my arms from using it. My last deodorant used to make me itch a little but this one doesn't. I love the fresh scent of the deodorant as it helps to keep me feeling fresh all day and night. In terms of value although the deodorant is quite expensive this doesn't really bother me as I prefer to pay a bit more money to have better protection that I know is going to work. There is a downside to this product which is that it does leave bad white marks on your clothes which are sometimes a bit of a pain to remove. I would definitely suggest leaving the deodorant to dry before dressing and to be careful when dressing in dark clothes such as black. I will be buying this deodorant again as it does work really well and I love the scent of the product. Due to the bad white marks this product leaves on clothes I am going to take away 1 star but overall this is a good deodorant that works well.
(review also on ciao)
I wouldn't consider myself brand loyal when it comes to anti-perspirants and deodorants although I do use Sure and Dove products mostly. When this Dove Maximum Protection Anti-Perspirant hit the shelves I was quite interested in trying it out, particularly as I'd heard a number of good things about it from other people. The price kept putting me off though. 45g of this anti-perspirant will set you back £5 (I've never seen it for any other price) and, although this isn't exactly a massive amount of money, there were many anti-perspirants on the shelves which cost £2 or £3 which I was more than happy with so this extra money just seemed like an unnecessary spend to me.
I managed to get hold of a £2 off voucher though and, along with my staff discount, was able to pick one of these up from Tesco for £2.50 which I was more than happy to pay for it.
This anti-perspirant promises 'maximum protection' and claims to have 'scientifically proven wetness protection' along with containing ¼ moisturising cream. It sounds pretty promising! It is available in 'original clean', 'pomegranate and lemon' and 'cucumber and green tea' scents. This review will be based on the 'original clean' scent.
The product comes in a white cardboard box which tells us the product name, scent tells us how wonderful this anti-perspirant is. It can be found in just about every supermarket along with Boots and Superdrug and seems to be rather popular, very easy to get hold of. Opening the box reveals a plastic deodorant stick which is about five inches tall and three inches wide. This comes with a plastic lid to protect the anti-perspirant and is easily carried around with you should you need to take it out with you.
At the top of the stick are a number of holes, eight large ones in the middle with quite a few smaller ones around these larger ones creating a circle. Twisting the bottom of the stick dispenses the anti-pespirant through these holes which you then rub over your armpit. Each time you turn the bottom a little you will hear a click (first application will require a fair bit of turning before the product is dispensed) and I find three clicks dispenses enough to cover one armpit. Used daily one of these lasts me about two or three weeks.
The anti-perspirant is rather cream like in consistency and is white. It is easily applied to my armpit although I do find myself adding a bit of pressure when applying this to make sure the product is actually transferring to my skin and not just covering the top of the stick. It has a lovely subtle but fresh scent to it which I continue to smell throughout the day every time I lift my arms up which shows it's doing the job, there's never any BO smell present! After immediate application my armpits do feel a little damp although this quickly 'dries' and it doesn't leave any white marks, flakes or stain clothes which are all good points in my books.
Like most I apply anti-perspirant daily thus can't comment on Dove's '48 hour protection' claims. Having said this I really do think this would give protection for that amount of time. It certainly does seem to have that wetness protection; it almost makes my armpits water resistant. When in the bath or shower I have to really scrub this area to get the product off and the water just sort of rolls off my arm pit, it's really rather impressive!
When going to the gym I feel confident enough with this to not apply extra before my work out, the product applied in the morning continues to give me sweat and odour free armpits even after a long work out. I've never come across such a protect which keeps this area of my body bone dry after an hour on an exercise bike before but this really does! My brisk walks to work in the morning often leave me needing to apply a little more anti-perspirant before I start my shift but, since I've been using this, I haven't needed to. I put this on the morning and before I go to bed my armpits are feeling and smelling just as clean and fresh as they did those twelve or so hours ago. I really cannot fault this at all! The moisturising cream in this seems to deliver results as well, my armpits do actually feel rather smooth and soft since using this and it never stings after shaving this area.
After trying this I am now more than happy to pay £5 for it, actually I think I'd pay more for it if needed be. It's absolutely the best anti-perspirant I have ever tried and probably the best on the market at the moment. 5/5 from me!
I bought this as it was summer time and felt my normal antiperspirant was not working well enough. I had used the sure maximum protection the previous year and hoped this would be as good as that one. I purchased the 'Go fresh' version which was scented with pomegranate and lemon verbena, and the scent was my favourite thing about the product. Although I found it didn't really stop me sweating any more than a regular deodrant, I did find that the scent remained throughout the day which was great. The scent was very fresh and girly, maybe a little sweet for some people but I really liked it. I found the product to be relatively fast drying, and liked the inclusion of the 'two clicks' of the bottom to ensure that the right amount of product was used. Overall I would not repurchase as I did not feel it performed well enough to warrant the higher price.
=== The Product ===
Dove Maximum Protection Deodorant is part of Dove's extensive range of anti-perspirants, and is available to buy from health and beauty retailers and selected supermarkets, as well as various online store, for an RRP of £5.09 for 45ml.
=== How I Came to Own It ===
As a BzzAgent (a member of bzzagent.co.uk) I am regularly given the opportunity to join campaigns whereby I trial new products in return for giving feedback to the manufacturers and spreading the word about the product. This is the subject of my latest campaign so I was sent the product for free to try out.
=== The Packaging ===
The deodorant comes packaged in a card box which contains a small information sheet as well as the deodorant itself.
The deodorant is housed in a semi-transparent plastic container with a pull-off lid. Through the outside of the container you can easily see a tube of cream running through the middle. On the top of the container are lots of small holes arranged in a circular pattern, and on the bottom is a dial which when twisted pushes the cream up through the holes, allowing the cream to be applied.
=== The Claims ===
Dove market this as the 'ideal product for women seeking maximum wetness protection, whilst caring for their underarm skin, providing scientifically proven protection against wetness and at the same time moisturises underarm skin with ¼ Dove moisturising cream.' They claim it offers protection 2 times stronger than the leading anti-perspirant, delivering all-day freshness with odour-fighting technology.
=== Suitability & Directions ===
The deodorant should not be applied to broken or irritated skin, and it does contain aluminium so should be avoided by anyone with a known sensitivity
The deodorant can be applied at any time but It is recommended that for optimal effect it should be applied to the underarms before going to bed at night. The recommended dose for each underarm is 2 clicks of the dial.
=== In Practise ===
As with most twist-up products you need to twist the dial for a while before the product becomes visible at the top of the tube, then a couple more clicks should get it ready to apply. The cream has a typically 'Dove' scent, creamy with slight floral undertones, but it's soft and subtle and won't clash with any perfume.
The cream is fairly thick in consistency and has a smooth creamy texture that glides easily over the skin making it really easy to apply. The top of the container is the perfect size and shape to allow for quick and easy application.
The cream feels creamy and moisturising on my underarm skin, and it doesn't feel wet, sticky or powdery, meaning I can get dressed straight away without having to worry about rubbing it off or staining my clothes. It doesn't leave white marks on my clothes so I can confidently wear whatever I want.
=== The Results ===
I've mainly been using this at night before bed as recommended for best results and I found that it worked really well. Even though it says it does in the product blurb I was surprised to find that the deodorant continues working even after a shower. I would debate the 48 hour protection claim, but it certainly lasts through the night after applying and my following working day so perhaps 24 hour protection would be more accurate. I'm not a generally sweaty person but when I get hot I do tend to get a small amount of underarm wetness which no other deodorant seems to control, but since using this I've remained completely dry and odour-free even when exercising or in particularly hot environments.
I have on a few occasions also used this in the morning before leaving for work (usually because I've simply forgotten to apply it the night before) and it doesn't seem to make any difference to the level of protection or how long it lasts, so I'm happy to use it either way.
Since I've been using this I have noticed a slight improvement in the condition of my underarm skin, it feels a little softer and healthier, and I don't seem to suffer as much with irritation from shaving as I normally would. Before I started using it I was a little worried I might react to it as I have a lot of deodorants in the past, but it has caused me no irritation whatsoever.
=== The conclusion ===
Overall I've been impressed with this deodorant, it's certainly effective and the only negative I can think of is the price, though I don't use a great deal at a time so it shouldn't need replacing that often. Highly recommended and I plan on trying it out in the other scents which are now available.
As a very busy mum of 2 daughters, self employed business owner and ritual workouter, I am always on the go! I also seem to sweat more than anyone else I know, any time of the year! I walk miles every day on the school runs / shopping trips / playgroup sessions and often used to come home with wet, smelly underarms!
I had tried all the deodorants known to man, nothing worked! I even had one prescribed by the doctor, but that one was SO strong that it burnt my underarms until they felt like they had been living on the sun for a year.
I was thrilled to be chosen for the Dove trial on BzzAgent. On receiving the deodorant I was shocked to see it wasn't a traditional spray or roll on, but something rather different. It came in a click canister, with a wheel at the bottom to apply the deodorant to the applicator top. It had a REALLY creamy, luxurious texture and consistency. It also had a really fresh, just got out of the shower smell.
As suggested on the box I applied the deodorant to my underarms (2 clicks of the wheel to each arm) before going to bed. I also reapplied again on getting out of the shower the next day, just to be sure. It didn't burn my arms like sprays can and it didn't feel wet like some roll ons can.
After a long walk to school, town and home I noticed that my underarms didn't feel anywhere near as wet as usual and I didn't notice any odour either - only the fresh smell of Dove.
I am going to continue to use this deodorant every day and see how it fares during the summer months - but at the moment it bodes really well!
Definitely worth a go, despite the hefty price tag (rrp £5.09) if wetness and underarm odour are a problem for you, as they were for me!
I've read several good reviews on this product and at the time it came out I was already using the Sure Maximum Protection. Just like the Sure Maximum Protection you have to apply of an evening befoer going to bed and then of a morning - after having washed your underarms. So I was pretty clued up with how to use it and what to expect.
The only reason I bought this one to try was because it was slightly cheaper than Sure. But personally I didn't see any difference, it didn't seem to work aswell as the Sure did for me and I was quite disappointed in such a well reviewed item. Sure worked within 2-3 days when i used it correctly, but the Dove just seemed to ease the smell of Body Odour not get rid of it entirely.
I did noticed that it moisturised my underarms though, which was quite impressive.
With this in mind when I ran out I went back to using the Sure brand and have had no problems with it since. Sorry Dove :(
After reading multiple good reviews on this product, I just had to buy it! The price was a little off putting, but I was desperate and I'm very glad I took a leap and tried this product! I would recommend it to anybody with problems with sweating under arms; weather its excess sweating or problematic odours.
I bought the Dove product right before going on holiday to Egypt, I didn't expect the cream to have the fantastic results it did back in England... this would just be an unfair expectation seeing as it was made to be used in the UK.
The price; ....
As I said, the price at first put me off a little but after trying this product I really do think it is worth the price!
I bought this dove maximum protection from boots however I know it is also available from Wilkinson's, Tesco and other supermarkets. It would probably be worth looking on their online website before making a trip out to buy it though!
I didn't shop around for this product, I put my trust into boots as usual and bought it straight from there, so I can't say if this product is cheaper anywhere else although it is probably cheaper online from places such as eBay!
I paid £4.99 from boots which I thought was quite high for a roll on applied anti-perspirant. It's sold a little cheaper for £4.50 at Wilkinson's.
All I can say is, don't be put off by the price! If you are as desperate as I was, the price turns out to be well worth it when you experience the results.
If buying from boots, you can also get your points or even use your advantage card points to purchase this product if you don't fancy paying for it.
What I like about this dove product is that it comes boxed. Being boxed makes it easier to find and also avoids it being placed with the other anti-perspirant 'roll ons'.
The product comes in a white box with the dove logo clearly displayed on the top right of the box with the advertisement 'maximum protection'. If you find this product among the other anti-perspirants and roll ons, 'maximum protection' is easily recognised as being an anti-perspirant. However if not, it could be taken as anything! As the words '48h anti-perspirant deodorant cream' are found in very small writing towards the bottom of the box.
The box may seem a little large for a roll on, however it is almost the same height of the actual product inside the box and the actual size is displayed on the side of the box for people who can fight the temptation to take out the product to take a look at.
The fragrance to the cream is described on the box as being 'origional clean' which gave me straight away the hint the cream was going to smell of soap. (Just like most other dove products!) So if you don't like the smell of the usual dove products, you may be put off from the start!
It is clear on the box that this product is a new scientific breakthrough. However the concerns which may occur are settled in the small leaflet you get inside the box by showing a question and answer detailed explanation of how Dove works and whether it is safe.
Dove maximum protection is advertised as being for 'women seeking maximum wetness protection whilst caring for their underarms' (as shown on the side of the box) however I'm not sure why they narrowed their target audience down to just women as my boyfriend has also tried this and it worked just as well for him.
The actual cream comes in a roll on looking container, plastic and transparent. The same logo and design is on the container as is on the box and the cream comes in a 45ml sized bottle.
There is a matching coloured lid which fits neatly onto the cream container however it doesn't click on so even though I haven't lost it yet, I can imagine myself loosing it in the future!
The container is a little bigger than usual roll-ons, however it is certainly twice as good and is still small enough to fit into your hand bag or carry around with you when travelling.
Dove recommends two 'clicks' per underarm, which basically means turning the nozzle on the bottom of the container until you hear two clicks which lets out a small amount of cream to the top of the container for you to wipe (using the container) directly onto your under arm skin.
Turning the nozzle two clicks may sound easy, however it's very easy to accidentally give out three as the clicks are very close to each other!
The more you twist, the more cream which comes out through the holes found at the top of the container.
I find this product very easy to use and even though Dove recommends two clicks per underarm, I usually only use one. This makes the cream last longer whilst also giving the same amount of protection in my opinion.
The top of the container is very smooth and is of a nice 'under arm' shape making it very easy to apply. By 'under arm' shape, I mean the top is of a sort of oval shape making it easy to glide and cover all areas of your underarm evenly.
The instructions say for optimal effect, apply on the underarms at night before bed. I find this is the best way however if you forget you can apply it the next morning. Although I wouldn't recommend using the product right before exercise or events in the sun where you are going to sweat as the cream needs time to soak in and take effect which is why it is best to be applied before bed.
When used on a usual British weather day in England, I find the results are fantastic! Even on a warm summer day the sweating is very little to none!
The usual times when walking at a fast pace in warm weather I usually sweat an annoyingly amount, however since using this Dove product, I can now rush out somewhere without worrying of turning up with wet underarms!
Sweating can easily spoil a great day out for anybody so I would recommend this product for anybody! Even if it's only used on occasions where you know you may sweat.
I haven't put this Dove product to test in the gym so I can't say whether it works great there, however I can be confident in saying it would make a difference.
I wouldn't recommend using it for times like going to the gym though as it's healthy to sweat when you are exercising. However Dove is great for the times where you are rushing around and really don't want to be turning up to work or other places with sweat patches!
Using in Egypt; ....
For anybody who has visited Egypt in July, it's easy to say that it is VERY VERY hot over there! So I didn't expect Dove to completely stop me from sweating.
Sweating from head to toe in the blistering heat, just about the only place somewhat dry was my under arms! Dove really did surprise me!
There was a little wetness, however never enough to cause me any discomfort and I was very pleased with how well the product worked.
I applied the cream every night before bed and even though I went swimming every day multiple times a day, the product performed at its best!
This product is advertised as being lasting for up to 48 hours, which is great. I tend to apply it every night on busy days and in the hot weather however even when I forget to apply it one night, I am still covered the next day. 48 hours really is how long this cream lasts.
The product comes in a 45ml sized bottle, I have been using it daily for about a month now and my bottle doesn't show any signs of being empty anytime soon!
Side effects; ....
One thing I did notice when I began to use this cream was that when shaving, my underarms felt like rubber. I have gotten used to it now so I don't notice it as much, and there isn't any discomfort caused at all, the only noticeable change is that it makes shaving under arms a little trickier. A smoother shaving foam such as sensitive cream may help this.
The box and the container describe the smell as being 'original clean' which gives you a hint the cream will smell of soap just like the rest of Doves products.
I don't mind the smell, it reminds me of soapy powder and to me the cream smells strongly fragranced. There is a very strong smell of the dove bar soap in this cream however my boyfriend always knows when I've applied it as he thinks it smells like banana! I have no idea where he's got this opinion from though as I don't think it smells anything like fruit or anything edible at all.
The smell doesn't really last throughout the day however this doesn't matter to me as I don't use the cream as a fragrance, I have deodorants and body sprays for that!
I think the fact the smell doesn't last is a good thing as it means those who don't prefer the dove smell don't have to put up with it all day long. It also means the smell doesn't interfere with your perfumes or other fragrances you apply daily.
Overall, I am very pleased with this product and I certainly will be buying again!
Thank you for reading, I also post on Ciao
Even in the winter, I get extremely hot, extremely quickly. I walk around in a thin t-shirt when it's snowing because I'm sweating from the exercise - no matter what anti-perspirants I used, they had no effect whatsoever, but the deodorant side of them worked to my advantage; sweating is not at all flattering, but at least I didn't smell. My mum recommended Mitchum which is supposed to stop you sweating full stop - but it failed, miserably, the first day I tried it. Then I saw an advert for Dove maximum strength. I had nothing to lose, so I went and bought it - £5 well spent! I've used it ever since! It lasts a long time, so it doesn't matter that it's quite expensive (just over £5 for 45ml in most places), because I still use less than if I had a can of regular anti-perspirant. Two clicks of the stick, and the tiny amount of cream I apply stops me sweating all day and all night - even in this summer heatwave, where I've been working all day running about as a waitress, I've not had a drop of sweat from the armpits! I wouldn't change it now I've found it - unless they do one that covers the entire body to stop you sweating profusely at the first sign of heat.
I started using these new style deodrants after seeing an advert for them, claiming they prevented wetness, lasted for 48 hours etc. The first type I tried was by Sure, and more recently I tried the Dove version.
What is so different about these deodrants? Well apart from the claims I have already mentioned, they are a new style of anti-perspirants which give a longer lasting protection against body odour, and essentially cut out all underarm wetness.
I am very impressed by the Dove version, and I use it everyday as it is much more effective than spray on deodrants (and is better because you don't have to breathe it in either!). It works by twisting the nozzle at the base of the packaging a couple of times, applying it to your underarms (it's sort of like a roll on without a rollerball) and it has a creamy texture which you essentially just apply as you would any deodrants.
It has that distinctive "Dove" smell, i.e very fresh and fragrant and smells alot like the Dove shampoo's/conditioners which is nice as it's not too overpowering either. In the product description, it suggests applying this before you go to bed so it lasts throughout the next day but personally I would find that a bit odd, as I just apply it normally after a bath or shower but it definitely would last the next day if you used the recommended technique.
Perhaps one area I am not as impressed with, is the white marks it leaves on my clothes which is very annoying to say the least! It is a common problem with anti-perspirants, but for me considering it is such an effective product otherwise it's a real shame that it does leave white marks and makes it tricky when putting on clothes. Also, if you use too much of the product it tends to go a little cakey in texture which is not nice, especially towards the end of the day.
At £4.99 it is rather pricey for a deodrant, however it is a long lasting product and I feel that you are paying that amount because it's not a straight forward deodrant and it is long lasting, and supposedly more effective at preventing wetness and odours so for that I would pay the extra amount.
Overall I am impressed with this product, as it's great especially on warm days when you may be conscious of sweat patches which lets face it nobody would want! Admittedly it's pricey, but given it's a new wave of anti perspirants I don't mind paying a little extra. It's just a shame about the white marks..
After years of being conscious of excess perspiration and the worry about damp patchs under my arms this product has totally changed things for me. I've never been a fan of the super strength anti perspirants as I felt that they probably weren't doing my skin much good and were always expensive to try and then find that they don't work. When I saw the Dove one in a very non gimmicky box it caught my eye. With the usual dove 1/4 moisturizing cream it seemed like it might be worth a try. The product itself is a cream applied from a tube with a twist up dial at the base so you get just the right amount per application. Although it is quite sticky when first applied it does sink in fairly quickly (just make sure you give yourself a couple of minutes before putting your top on) and IT ACTUALLY WORKS. I've been using this for about 6 months now and it is amazing. If you have suffered with excess perspiration I can genuinely recommend this product, it stops the sweating and doesn't dry your skin out at all. It might seem pricey compared to standard anti perspirants but you will actually get the benefit from it.
Im not a fan of roll on's. I didnt see how they could provide you with anything different that a spray does, but although sprays smell nice, i havent found one that actually lives up to its 24 or 48 hours dryness claim. However, after reading a review on here about how great this was, i decided to give it a go. I got it from Boots for £4.99, i did grudge paying this but it has worked so well that i probably would have paid more for it . I stood for ages in Boots looking for it, because it was on the very bottom shelf almost out of view. It seems like all the gimmiky hair minimising and aromatherapy type sprays have center stage in the shops because they look great, when really the shops would probably bring in more money if they has the products that actually work in plain sight!
Anyway...unlike other roll on's, this came in a little box with an instruction leaflet. The box is the actual size of the product so it will last a while. Its called an anti perspirant cream and it claims that is been dermatologically tested to prevent wetness for 48 hours. Its a clear plastic casing with a dial at the bottom that you turn two or three times to dispence the cream. I have found that that is enough product to give a large coverage area. A thing i liked about this, is that the cream is reallt easy to rub in. Even when i had a bit of stubble and my underarms had a bit of shaving rash it still glided on really easily. I didnt experience any stinging, tingling or redness after using. Like most of Doves products it has 1/4 mouisurising cream in it so my skin didnt sting or go red when i applied it straight after shaving. It also doesnt take as long to dry as expected, a few minutes and i could get dressed. It says you get best results if you apply at night, but i have also been putting it on during the day aswell.
I have to admit, this is really great. I havent had any wetness or odour since using it and my underarms feel a bit softer. When i do start to feel like i might sweat, my underarms have still been feeling warm, but they are still completelt dry. It does confuse me a bit though since its a cream that you are applying and i do wonder how when you get warm you dont just sweat it off, but its really impressive. The only downside i have is that after a few hours you cant smell it anymore. It has that standard Dove soapy smell which is nice and pleasent, but even after a while when i get a bit warm i still cant smell it. But it does do its job brilliantly so i cant complain too much!
If you still arent impressed though, wait till you hear this. I applied this about 7.30ish last night before i went out, didnt apply anymore when i got up today and about 12pm i went swimming. I thought that it would definately come off with the chlorine so didnt mind that i would have to probably put it on again after that. However, i forgot to put it in my bag and ended up going for a longswim and went into the sauna for about 10 mins. I thought it would definately have comeoff after all that but that was hours ago and its now about 6 hours later and im still dry! I am totally amazed that its managed to survive that, so im going to stock up on this for my summer holidays!
