I am normally brand loyal in this area but as dove men+care was on offer for £1.50 (rrp £3.50) I thought I would give it a go. The can is a regular 250 ml spray and the design is fairly plain but some of the writing on the back of the can is quite small and white on light grey is not the easiest to read.
On the can it claims to give 48 hrs of protection and 'care' for your underarm is implied in the name. It also states that it does not contain alcohol. The active ingredient is Aluminium chlorohydrate which is common in the majority of these sprays.
The spray button has a lock on it just turn it through ¼ of a full turn to either lock and unlock. This makes it good for putting in your case as it won't get set off accidentally in your case. The spray is quite fast but it could cover a larger area in one go.
The smell of the product is fairly light and whilst not exactly scented it does have what I can only describe as a clean smell to it, like fresh reasonably quality soap, sort of a sandalwood like smell but not as strong. This for me is good as I hate those heavily scented sprays that are like a chemistry experiment gone wrong.
Does it live up to its billing as a powerful antiperspirant? Well frankly no, not for me it didn't. I still suffered with almost the same level of wetness in my armpit as I had when I didn't use this product and it left a sort of sticky gluey type feel on my skin. To find out if it was just the hot weather this summer causing the majority of this effect I tested it against my regular antiperspirant (as I had some left in and old can) using one under my left arm and the other under my right then the next day reversed it. My regular spray won by a fairly large margin on both days in the dryness stakes. So that is a fairly big minus for this product.
The 'care' part of the product well my underarm skin didn't feel dried out but nor did it feel any better cared for either with this product but I have never had very sensitive skin so someone who suffers more from this my notice a difference. Although it didn't irritate my skin either but then again deodorants rarely do anyway. The lack of alcohol will help to reduce the drying effect some of these products have so that is a plus for those with sensitive skin.
Would I recommend or buy it again?
Well I find with these products that there are some that work for some but not for others hence even though I was unimpressed with it, it may work for other people. However, as it did not work for me on the anti-perspirant front I am unlikely to buy it again although I will finish the can of this I have (I hate wasting things) I will be using it again in the winter when sweating is less of a problem. It is a slight pity as I actually do like the neutral smell of this spray but I think the prevention of wetness is the more important factor in an antiperspirant.
