~Dove Silk Spray~
I have bought and used a good number of products from the Dove range including the Dove Silk dry deodorant aerosol spray. I have found that this product works in a similar way to most of the other Dove deo spray products that I have used, although the fragrance itself is lighter than some I have tried and dries to a softer scent than some of the others do.
I find that the Dove product cans like the one used for this product are easy to use, with them being a good size to hold in the hand when spraying on some of the product where required. I find that the spray cans operate well and don't tend to slip out of your hand when in use. The deo spray creates a lightish mist effect when you press down on the applicator button, which in theory can be directed where needed with relative ease, although this can be rather hit and miss at times.
I like the scent that the product gives off, however there are others from the range that I prefer. The fragrance is not overly heavy in my opinion and can be worn alongside other EDT's or perfume brands if wanted. The idea of the product is that it has silk in it which should ensure that it feels soft and silky on the skin, however in my opinion I cannot really tell the difference between this product with its added silk content and others from the same brand which do no contain it.
The issue that I often find with this particular Dove deodorant spray product is that very often it leaves a lot of powdery residue in the air as I spray it on, which to my mind means that there is plenty of the product that is being lost during the process. I also find that the amount of misty/ powdery residue that is released from the can into the air can be rather too overpowering at times and I would rather that this didn't happen quite so often.
~Product rating/ price~
There have been the odd few occasions when the product has not worked as well as it should (see above comments about excessive powder residue in this review), although many times when I have used the product it has provided a good degree of anti-perspirant with a light spray where needed. The cost of the product varies slightly from store to store, although I try never to pay more than £1.99 for it when I buy it. My rating for the product is 3 stars as I feel there are products in the Dove range that do a better job.
I've been buying Dove deodorant for the past few years. I'm sure I had tried it years ago but it was never as cost pretty as other brands. This brand never seemed to be on offer so I always plumped for for Soft and Gentle. Thesedays I find that prices for lots of things have got a lot better and Dove is usually in my cupboard but I do still buy it when it is on a special offer :)
Dove seems to come in 2 different sizes the 150ml and the 250ml. It is normally the larger size that is on offer and although the large tin can often cost over the £3 mark in my local Asda the offer price is £2 so not a bad price for me. I ended up trying this one as the shelves were quite bare and I normally like the Green Tea one or the Grapefruit as they are so refreshing, but I thought this one should be ok as I have never tried to Dove product that I totally hate and again the price was good. I like to try new scents too.
The tin looks the same as it does on here. Nothing all that special. Just a simple aerosol tin which is white and not all that eye catching. This has a little lid on it instead of the twist top kind of tins that often Body sprays and Deodorants have. I've carried this around in my (large work) bag and the lid has stayed on just fine without falling off.
So what is so good about this Deodorant? Well it is meant to give 48 hour protection, keep you dry and basically Moisture I guess. Sometimes I have found after using Hair removal Cream under my arms when I spray Deodorant it can nip a little but after reading on the back of this tin then it seems that this would be gentle.
So I gave this a good shake while half awake in the morning the 1st time that I used this and was greeted with quite a lot of white powder coming out of this. Not good when you are wearing a clean black top. The white power seemed to last a couple of squirts and then it died down a bit. The scent of this is alright. You get the sort of Moisturing Cream scent that you get with Dove and it is all ok. I can't say that this kept me dry for 48 hours as i've never tested any Spray for that lenght of time.
An ok product from a great brand but I will stick with the other scents in future.
When it comes to buying deodorants, I never know where to start. With so much on offer, there is always too much choice especially when you can't remember which ones are good and which ones are rubbish. So, generally I tend to go with whatever is on offer at the time, much the same as I do with most other products. Dove Silk Dry Aerosol Deodorant was on offer for £1 when I bought it from Wilkinson.
The packaging for this product is quite bland and definitely doesn't stand out on the shelf. The canister is mostly white, with the Dove logo on in blue and the product name on in gold. The cap to the canister is also in gold which matches some of the other text. While it isn't overly feminine, it isn't a masculine canister either but I found it to be really boring looking. Nothing about it stands out for me and I wouldn't even go as far as to say that it looks remotely nice. Again, I bought it because of the price.
Dove Silk Dry claims to give 48 hour protection while improving the look and feel of underarm skin while gently taking care of skin after shaving. All of this information can be found on the back of the canister. The canister also gives directions for use which are: shake well and hold can 15cm away from the body then spray. Use in short bursts in a well-ventilated area. Obviously, anyone who has ever used a can like this will already know what to do but I guess they have to put it anyway.
So on first use, I was expecting this to be a pretty good product due to it coming from Dove. I sprayed the deodorant in the air first to check out the smell which was actually very pleasant. There isn't too much of a scent to this deodorant but it does smell clean and fresh. So far so good. When using on my underarms, this is where the product doesn't do so well. The first couple of times, I didn't notice anything wrong particularly apart from the 48 hour protection definitely not standing true to its claim. This doesn't even last 24 hours let alone 48. Anyway, I used this on a normal day and went to uni then came home. Same thing the next day but with work. The third day though, I had on a black vest top while I sprayed this and then I noticed when I took it off that it was covered in white powder. If I had been wearing something nicer than a vest top, I would have been extremely annoyed.
Deodorants should not leave white marks and because of this, I won't be using this one again.
