I always like to spritz a bit of body spray over my clothes before going out and often top up during the day/evening to keep it slightly noticeable. I have a couple of favourites but like trying new ones now and then, which is why I tried Impulse City Collection Paris when it was on sale. As far as scents go, this is fairly pretty to use even though I don't find it necessarily lasts that long.
Impulse is very popular for their body sprays and they now have a large range of different scents, so much so that it can be hard to choose one! This is a body fragrance as opposed to an anti-perspirant and is thus simply designed to make you smell pretty. This comes in a slim 75ml metal can with a push-down spray mechanism that's protected by a twist-around cover so you don't accidentally end up spraying it everywhere whilst it's in your bag.
To use, simply twist the top bit, push down and spray, keeping it about 15cm from your body. I find it is down to personal preference as to how exactly you use it but it's fairly gentle on skin, otherwise you can spray over clothes.
City Collection Paris has a very sweet smell that's feminine and quite fresh. The floral scents have an almost jasmine undertone but I don't find it sickly sweet unlike other heavily-floral sprays I've tried in the past.
I find this is quite noticeable when first used and makes me feel quite invigorated, and I have had some positive comments about smelling 'pretty'. Nonetheless I still find you need to re-apply to keep the fragrance noticeable because after an hour or two it's less so, as with many sprays really. Not that it's a huge problem because the spray is slim and looks good so it's discrete to pop in your bag but you wouldn't feel embarrassed at getting it out or sharing it around.
At the average price of around £2, this is about average for most brand name sprays out there. It depends on your use as to how long it lasts; I don't think too much is needed for it to be initially noticeable but like I said, topping up seems necessary so you end up using more. These are, however, often on sale, which is the best time to give it a try. Whilst Paris isn't my favourite, I wouldn't hesitate to buy again when on offer.
Retails for around £1.99 (Boots)
Impulse has so many different fragrances and more keep coming out. I do wonder how different each one is and as I try each one I wonder more how different each one is!
This is a small collection of frangrances named after cities, there is New York and London in the collection. I am not quite sure what is Paris about this one and what is London or New York about the others. I can think of many other smells to go with these cities but maybe they would not make good fragrances!
This is a bit of a sickly smell and a bit Heady (gives you a head ache) so I wasnt really impressed by it.
As with all the others it doesn't last long on your clothes or skin and so is a bit of a wasteof time. However for the short run it is good to use to mask odours especially smoking odours!
The bottles are about £2.50 full price but I only ever buy them on offer usually at about £1 each.
I wouldnt buy this fragrance again as it was not really very nice. I prefere the lighter fruity or water fragrances and this was too sweet and sickly for me.
I tend to use perfume over body sprays now but there is the odd occasion when I'll still use the sprays in particular when I'm left with little choice!
About two weeks ago I went up to see my horse in the morning and thought that gave me plenty of time to get home, have a shower before getting out to a client in the afternoon. Apparently the traffic had a different idea! Three hours later after having sat practically stationary on the M1 I arrived back just on time to my client but stinking of horses. Whilst the smell doesn't bother me it doesn't exactly make a good impression on a client! So after a quick trip to the shop I left with a can of Impulse Paris, hoping that would go at least someway to covering the smell.
What Is It, What Do Impulse Say?
This particular spray is part of Impulse's city collection. They say that "if you dream of love in the world's most romantic city, try Impulse Paris with a blend of bergamot, tangerine and muguet scents and feel the charm of the city of lights. Spray it all over your body and enjoy its captivating scent!"
I have a confession to make here - I had no idea what muguet smelt like until I googled it for this review. For those of you just as confused as I was it's lily of the valley.
As with all Impulse canisters this has a plastic lid which you need to turn to reveal the spray hole. I find these to be a bit hit and miss, sometimes they'll turn without any problems, other times they'll stick. I found that this one stuck which again wasn't really a problem as all I needed to do was to hold the white plastic rim and turn the lid, I would still prefer it just to turn without sticking though. That said, I have used Impulse spray cans before where this hasn't been a problem so it might just be my particular one.
Once I had turned the cover the button to release the spray is easy to use and won't cause any problems. Once pressed it releases a fine mist which goes on slightly damp but dries almost immediately.
When first sprayed the scent is quite strong and starts as just an overall fruity smell. Once this has settled, the muguet becomes more noticeable with just an underlying hint of tangerine. This scent lasts around an hour, during which the tangerine develops a bit more and blends well with the muguet. Neither of them are dominant over the other but are both equally blended with each other. There is however still just a general fruity background to these two dominant scents.
I have tried spraying this on both my clothes and directly onto my skin. The scent goes through the same notes in around the same time scale no matter what it is sprayed onto. It also lasts the same amount of time which is quite a disappointing around 5 hours. Although this isn't too bad a length for a body spray I have found some which last longer.
The smell this body spray has definitely means that it's better suited to day rather then evening wear and summer rather then winter. I've always thought that Impulse is a brand aimed at younger people such as pre-teens and teens. Although having said that, there are some scents that appeal to me in their range.
As to whether or not I like this scent, I'm not sure. I do quite like it, I'm just not sure it's for me. I wouldn't say that it's too young for me, it's probably about the right age range it's just not my kind of scent. That said, I will continue to use this can I'll just pick up a different scent when I have a need to buy another.
The aerosol is recyclable and as far as I can tell this is suitable for both vegetarians and vegans.
As with all aerosols this comes with several warnings. These are: keep out of reach of children, protect can from sunlight and do not expose to temperatures over 50degrees, do not pierce or burn even after use, do not spray on or near a naked flame and do not use on sore or broken skin. Although this is advertised as being gentle on skin and I have used this on broken skin without irritation just use common sense when it comes to this.
Price, Availability And Recommendation
Impulse body sprays are widely available. Prices do vary so it's worth shopping around but expect to pay between £1.50 and £2.
As for recommendation based on how I feel it suits me I can only give it four out of five stars but I do think it would be suited to those up to mid-twenties who like this kind of scent. Try it in store before purchasing to see if it's something you would wear.
Impulse is a brand I used as a teenager but stopped as I went into my twenties as I realised that, with a little help from a friend, that they were a bit young and I moved onto perfume of which I am an avid fan and have many. So a fair few years on and a younger friend sprayed herself with something and I quite liked it and was surprised to hear that it was a new variant from the Impulse range.
My curiosity was aroused and I decided to take a look at the shops. I went into Superdrug not long after and found that they cost about £1.80 for a 75ml can, though you can get trial 35ml, and were on 2 for £2 at the time. I also saw one of the variants in Poundland so if they're not on offer in the chemists you can still get them very cheap.
It comes in a tall cylindrical tube which is pink, almost the colour of love and has a picture of the Eiffel Tower, a lipstick and high heels amongst other designs. The spray top is cleverly hidden by a turning cover so you don't spray accidentally. Rather handy and similar to Sure deodorants.
The initial smell of this is quite chemical but dies down to its true scent after a few seconds. It is very much like the colour of its bottle, soft, sweet and gentle very feminine. It has bergamot, tangerine and muguet in it but what it reminds me of most is the fragrance of some of the Soap and Glory products for a fraction of the price.
Another successful discovery in the Impulse range, makes me wonder why I ever left it behind.
Impulse Paris was a cheap steal for me, one sunday afternoon it was 10 to 4 and I just had a sudden rush of excitement. I looked in my bag and went to spray myself with my old spray when I noticed it was empty.
I had been using Impulse New york and I had got a bit tired of using it so i walked into boots and i saw the spray on sale for 89p.
I looked at the bottle and my first initial thought was "Pretty pink,my favourite" and I just couldn't wait to get to the checkout to pay my hard earned money for this spray which I thought was great.
I got home and put the spray with my collection and looked at it with pride because I now had every available Impulse product in the world.
About a week later I was going to a party and i thought , "Im out of pefume what should I wear" And I ran to my collection a sprayed the product all over my body. Overall i was very impressed with the smell of this product, it was like bergamol, tangerine and muguet scents.
This spray is is a new edition to the Impulse collection as there is a new city collection including New york,Paris and London; as you know i have already reviewed Impulse New york which is a captivating scent. This scent is the best one of them all I think because I just loved the smell and because I think that Paris is the most important city.
The spray lasts for about 3 hours and is strong all the time and it fades slowly and you can still smell it all the time throughtout wearing it. It has become the most popular body spray in my college and I think that considring the price it is truly one of the best sprays I have ever had.
The design on the bottle is what made me want to buy this body spray in the first place. You can see from the picture it is pretty in pink and looks very girly and lovely. There is a picture of a girl that you can't see too clearly from the picture, she is sitting at a table, supposedly in Paris.
I do like the city of Paris and have visited there a couple of times but thats not the reason I decided to buy this. However I do think it adds a nice touch that this is named after a beautiful and famous french city.
The bottle lasted me about three weeks, when I was using it most days. It is easy to hold and the lid is easy to spray some spray out from.
I'm not very good at describing smells but I think this smells really nice. I know thats not very helpful so I'll expand a bit now. I think you would call the scent sweet, although it isn't too sickly sweet. You can smell the alcohol a little when you first spray this on but after a couple of minutes that fades, and then you can mostly just smell a sweet, light fragrance. It is fresh, girly and very lovely. I really like it and it lasts, too.
This was really popular when the range first came out. There are two other similar fragrances in the collection, which are also named after cities. They are called New York and London but Paris has to be my favourite which is why I decided to review it first. As I say the range was very popular when it first came into shops but I don't see these as round as much anymore. You can still get this in most places though, cost ranging from about £1 to £2. I recommend this.
I absolutely love perfume and smelling scenty but for some reason I have never really used body sprays, I think because I always assumed that they were weak and would fade from the skin not long after sprayed. However recently while out shopping I had a pocketful of loose change and saw an Impulse City Collection Paris Body Fragrance so decided to buy it. You get 75ml for £1.19 which in my opinion is quite cheap, I just hoped it wouldn't smell that way!
Impulse body sprays have been going since 1972 and were launched in the UK in 1979. Over the years they have had many different body spray collections and have always been very popular. According to Impulse they use the latest spray technology for a light application and all fragrances are dermatologically tested to be kind to the skin. A long with Paris the Impulse City Collection has a London fragrance as well as one from New York. It seems they have produced a limited edition version of these scents I think the only difference being the design on the can. The limited edition version seems to have a different girl on each one, for example the Parisian design has a girl sitting in a café with a Poodle, I don't mean they are on a date or anything, it's her pet....I think!
The can is 15cm long and 3cm in diameter which means it is compact enough to easily fit inside most handbags. About 4cm of the can is taken up by a white frosted plastic top, which when twisted reveals for want of a better word the 'spray hole' (could I have said nozzle or maybe atomiser?) and when you press the top of this plastic part the product is released.
The can itself is varying shades of metallic pink and is decorated with numerous illustrations of fashion items, French landmarks and French phrases such as 'oh la la' and 'Je Taime' attempting to give the can a Parisian feel. I would say the can is attractive but it didn't particularly stand out among the other Impulse sprays, the main reason I chose it was because it was cheaper than the others (the Skinflint strikes again!).
We are told on the back of the can that if you dream of love in the most romantic city in the world you should try Impulse Paris. I think they are overselling a little, after 2 months of using the spray I am yet to be swept off my feet by a French fancy! We are also told that the scent of the fragrance is a mix of bergamot, tangerine and muguet scents. Now I had no idea what muguet scents are but from what I can gather it is something like spring flowers and more specifically Lily of The Valley.
You get the usual warnings on the back of the can, like don't spray it anywhere weird, don't pierce the can, don't leave on painted surfaces and don't use it as a flamethrower (I might have paraphrased)
When you first spray the fragrance your skin is instantly cooled, though I agree with the advice on the back of the can and usually try to spray at least 15cm away from my body otherwise it can sting a little. I tried to let the spray settle a little before smelling it as I don't think you are supposed to sniff aerosols too closely.
The first scent I can smell is Tangerine. It is tangy, fruity and sweet and I would say it is the overriding scent of the spray (what tangerines have to do with Paris I don't know!) Bergamot is a citrus scent so one reason the Tangerine might smell quite strong is because the scent of Bergamot is supporting the Tangerine fragrance. I have looked on the internet and found that this scent also contains Jasmine, I think that I can smell the Jasmine and it gives the scent a slightly powdery floral scent, which could equally be the muguet scents (maybe Jasmine is a muguet scent). When the fragrance settles down a little more there is a softer scent of fruit which isn't quite as tangy as the Tangerine and looking on the internet I believe this could be the scent of Raspberry as Raspberry is also listed as an ingredient.
I would say this is a tangy, fruity and floral scent which probably lasts about 3-4 hours on the skin before fading. If I had to say something that I don't like about the scent I would say that the citrus scent can sometimes smell a little sour, which I don't find too appealing but this doesn't seem to happen all the time, so maybe it is when too much is sprayed on.
Overall I would buy this body fragrance again because at such a cheap price I would say it is a quality product with good value for money. I think I have been using the spray about two months and I would say that there is maybe two weeks worth left. I wouldn't feel too disappointed if I couldn't find the spray again as I imagine I could find another Impulse spray of a similar quality, but for now I am saying 'Oui, Oui' to Impulse Paris.
I have always used impulse and I don't intend to stop now. They are really really handy to have in your bag or in your make up bag for touch ups though out the day. They are also really good for traveling and for freshening up after being in the sun. I have tried loads of impulse sprays including, goddess, tease, romantic spark, siren, true love, new york and now this one. Out of all of them this is my third favorite. The true love is first, then romantic spark and now this.
They are all 75ml spray bottles and the paris one contains the scent of caramel and jasmine which works really nicely. Some of the other sprays such as siren and tease can be a bit strong but this one is light airy and not really over powering.
They are also really really cheap and they are usually on offer in morisons or asda. The 75ml one is currently £1.89 in boots. But they are also sold in other larger supermarkets and superdrug. It also has really nice packaging which is of the same style as the new york and london ones.
They are also available as a little gift set which includes this one, the new york one and the london one, I think you can buy this little set at morisons but Im not sure. they made great little additions to a birthday present too.
*Great price and they are usually on offer
*Nice pretty pink packaging
*Also has the new york one and london one in this range
*In my opinion it is not as strong as some of the other ones which is a good thing
*Handy and convenient
*Easy to use spray bottle
*A great little gift
*Perfect size for my handbag and great for holidays
Thank you for reading my review
I normall use Impulse Body Spray. This is the main brand named Body Spray out there and has a heafty price tag to go with it. I have never bought it at full price, but a bit of sensible shopping allows me to have this at a good price.
The Body Spray tins come in a 75ml tin. The normal price for this can be anywhere in the region of £1.70-£2.229 depending on where you buy this, but I find that Sainsbury's are good at selling this at 74p sometimes, and Asda every so often at £1, so I normally stock right up so it does me until another offer comes along.
I had tried the other 2 in the Cities collection, which are London and New York. I liked the New York one, but London I wasn't that keen on. So I thought I may as well give this one a shot.
The packaging is the same thin, slim tin. The colouring is mostly Pink on it, and it gives images of Paris such as the Eiffel Tower. I like that with the Impulse tins that you just twist the lid to 1 side to spray, and if you twist it the other way then it locks it again. No worry about the lid falling off in your bag.
I found the scent to stay a good lenght of time as well, which they normally do. So what did I think about the scent of this? I wasn't so keen to be honest. It was quite a sweet scent, but there was a powdery floral scent in here as well. It was quite nice and refreshing, but a bit too floral for me. I've tried it though, but I don't think I will buy it again, as there is so many nicer scents out there than this one.
Perhaps worth a try if you like floral Body Sprays, but just not for me.
Impulse is a range of body sprays and deodorants. Throughout the years there has been new releases of different fragrances of body sprays from the Impulse range.
The city collection created fairly recentlyby Impulse is a chic and stylish range. The packaging of this spray is a pink can with a pretty lady on it and the name of the spray. On the back is normal details like how to apply which is pretty straightforward, details of the company and the size which is 75ml. This gorgeous smelling scent has notes of jasmine and caramel.
How do i use this?
Spray all over your body for a fresh and gorgeous smell.
Where can you buy this spray?
Impulse is sold in many shops and chemists including Boots and Superdrug. The current price in Boots is £1.89 for the 75ml can.
I have been a fan of Impulse since my early teens and have always found a scent that i liked best. When the city collection was released i bought them on offer in Boots so i could test and see which one was my favourite and Paris came out on top! I love the smell and it is very easy to use. £1.89 is a ok price but look out for special offers in other stores such as Asda and Superdrug as you may find a bargain.
I did a review a few weeks ago now on the New York fragrance from this collection so I thought it was about time I got round to reviewing or at least trying to review the rest of this collection. I liked the New York spray so much I decided to go out and buy the rest of the collection but I only found the Paris fragrance so into my basket it went for me to try out when I got home.
I have a different bottle to the images attached to this review and personally I like mine more =]. My spray can is the same colour, light and bright pink and is about the same size. But the image on the front is different. It pictures a woman on the front like the normal Impulse designs and it has a collection of little symbols that we associate with Paris ie. The Eiffel Tower, Poodle & if I remember rightly a baguette lol. Instead of having a top this has got a handy twist open top which if anything I prefer because the spray cant escape out of the can inside your bag!
My Thoughts On The Smell:
Now I can rarely pick up the "notes" in fragrances but I could distinctly smell jasmine so this was definitely the top note and it must have been pretty strong for me to be able to smell it! This is a very sweet yet flowery fragrance and there is a scent in this fragrance that I cant put my finger on but it smells a lot like toffee and chocolate which I really liked.
What these fragrances have to do with the "city" they are representing I have no idea but they are really nice all the same. I would say this will appeal to younger people more because it is very sweet and I think older women would prefer something a bit more flowery and musky, but Im no expert :)
Well I will definitely be buying this again. I love sweet fragrances so this is perfect for me and the smell lasts forever on your skin and even longer on clothes so one can lasts you a really long time. The best thing about this spray is I think that you can still spray your usual "proper" perfume over the top and the two fragrances wont counteract each other but smell just really nice together. I recommend.
I think a can of this will cost you around £1 and it is very widely available from chemists and places like Boots & Superdrug.

IMPULSE PARIS BODY SPRAY - LIMITED EDITION
Background on Impulse
The brand Impulse was launched in the UK by Elida Gibbs in 1979. The packaging featured the distinctive butterfly design with the famous slogan 'Men can't help acting on impulse.' They are still going strong today bringing a wide range of body sprays, anti-perspirants and deodorant wipes to the shelves.
Impulse Paris Body Spray is part of the City Collection. This consists of the main cities of the world - London, New York and Paris. Each bottle features limited edition illustrations. This design was created exclusively for Impulse by Claire McMahon.
The tin is much thinner than a deodorant can which makes this discrete and easier to pop in your handbag. Handy sized versions of the City Collection are also available - usually in gift sets around Christmas time. The design is very girly with pink and silver metallic accents and the distinctive Impulse logo in black. The image depicts a lady sitting at a cafe table in Paris with her Poodle. A lid is not supplied with this body spray. Instead it features a twist top which enables you to lock the spray which is a great design and very easy to use. On the back of the tin it reads: 'The most romantic city on earth! Whispered conversations at corner cafes, the scent of caramel and jasmine. Haute couture and drop dead chic. Flirt with Impulse Paris'.
The Impulse brand to me is like the female alternative to Lynx but without the wacky advertising campaigns. It appeals to all age ranges with scents to suit the older generation too. The fragrances are strong without being overpowering and lasts all day so there is no need to keep reapplying. You could almost use this as a cheaper alternative to perfume. 'Paris' is a beautiful scent that smells exactly like Soap & Glory's Pink Range which I was very pleased about as that range is my favourite. The packaging states that the main bouquet is caramel and jasmine. It is very sweet smelling with a hint of flowers.
Cost and Availability
Impulse products retails at around £1.89 for a 75ml can which is quite costly when compared to it's rivals but is regularly available for £1 or buy one get one free at larger stores like Tesco, Superdrug and Boots. I just hope that they do not discontinue this range due to it being a limited edition. Using this everyday would last my about two weeks.
