Advantages: Smells lovely, does work, low cost
Disadvantages: White marks, bad packaging
A while ago, I decided to give this product a go - it was last winter, when I was going on a bit of a Lush rampage, and I really wanted to stop using aerosol deodorant because it's bad for you and the planet, so this, along with the fantastic smell, really swung this for me.
This is different in substance from the other deodorants Lush produce - most of the others come in block form (like a soap) and are very solid, and pretty strong smelling. I didn't like any of those smells, as I considered them to be quite sharp and a little 'manly' (or at least unisex). This is a powder, and comes in a little black paper tube (like a short loo roll tube), with a plastic top that swivels round to reveal or cover up holes through which the powder is dispensed. The packaging is identical to how you get the various 'dusting powders', but while those are just fragranced, this is actually a deodorant.
The product itself is a very fine white powder, composed largely of dessicated coconut, powdered coconut milk and coconut oil, with cornflour and tapioca starch for absorbancy, and some frangranced oils. The smell is very sweet and really strong of coconut - I would definitely wear this just as a scent, but unfortunately the smell wouldn't last nearly long enough.
To use, you can either apply straight to your underarms, but I find that can leave too much residue and leave white marks on your clothes, so I prefer to empty a small amount onto the palm of my hand and rub it in gently until it's all gone. I find it to be fairly effective in the winter, but in the warmer weather I have had to revert back to a stronger anti-persperant, which I'm a bit dissapointed about...but I suppose there's only so much all natural ingredients can achieve. I would point out that I was hugely impressed that this had any antiperseperant effect at all, I guess you could say I was a sceptic. If you were really dedicated to the cause you could just reapply during the day...BUT...that brings me onto my next point...
The design of the packet leaves a lot to be desired! When I first anticpated that I might need to re-apply I took it out one day in my handbag. As you can twist the top and cover the holes I ASSUMED this meant the product would remain in the packaging. I was very wrong! Quite a lot of the product comes out in transport, short of wrapping it in a sandwich bag I wouldn't say it's advisable to take it anywhere with you!
In summary, this is a great smelling product which DOES WORK, but maybe not as well as the chemical alternatives. It CAN leave white marks and it's NOT suitable to be transported. But I would recommend it, overall it's worth the measly £3.80 it costs for 50g, which will, believe me, last AGES!
Summary: Worth £3.80 of anyones money
