Advantages: none
Disadvantages: too many to list, huge disappointment
Deodorant is a very important part of my toiletry bag and one of the most (if not the most) important part of my daily bathroom routine. I usually have couple at home, in my handbag and at work to ensure a sweat-free day all day long. I don't usually mind what form it comes in - I use all spray, roll on, gel or stick. A while ago I came accross Mitchum roll-on deodorant, which came with two features that made me buy it straight away - it should give 48 hours protection and there is an unfragranced version, that allow me to use my favourite perfume in addition do the antiperspirant. Happy with the purchase? Well...let's see:
--- Packaging ---
Mitchum comes in a green plastic container with a roll on applicator and a screw top lid. To be honest, I'm not sure is it because of the wierd colour, but it looks a bit cheap to me...however, it is sturdy and the deodorant doesn't dry on the ball applicator so I'm happy with that. I have a 50ml bottle, but there is a bigger one available, too. It is also recyclable.
The sticker to the front is a lighter-green shade and has a logo, name of the product (including information that it gives "powerful 48hr protection" without leaving white marks and scent on it. The sticker to the back has ingredients (contains Aluminium) and size of the container listed and can be peeled off to reveal more information about application (must not be used on damaged or irritated skin and you should discontinue use as soon as any rash develops) in a few languages. I was also surprised to find out Mitchum roll-on is produced by Revlon, which gave a bit more credibility to the product.
--- Application ---
Well, not much to it, as a usual roll-on deodorant it is easy to apply and as I mentioned above the deodorant doesn't dry on the applicator so you don't have to loosen it before use as with some of the products I experienced before. The right amount is applied, not too little, not too much (it is certainly not leaking even in hotter months), however, it takes a good while to dry.
After it dries, I did experience a bit of "crumbling" and some white marks which is something I did not expect! I wouldn't normally mind if it was a good product, but why stick it on the packaging if it's not true???
--- Great 48 hours effect? ehmmm...not so much ---
I was a very disappointed this deodorant has to be reapplied every few hours to be fully effective, it certainly does not give advertised 48hr protection (not even 24hrs!). Also, I find it somewhat protective against sweat, but not so much against smell. Therefore, instead of using antiperspirant and adding some perfume to my neck and wrists, I have to overspray the antiperspirant with perfume to be fully effective.
Even it didn't work as well as I expected, I didn't want to throw it away - afterall it's not absolutely horrible and can be used. For quite a few months I have been using it without any side effect, but just a few weeks ago (maybe after 5-6 months) my skin becomes a bit itchy after use...
--- Conclusion ---
For approx £2.59 (£2.89 for a 100ml in Boots now), you would expect to get at least what packaging says. It is supposed to be a solution for people with extensive sweating, and even though I don't happen to be one of them, it is not strong enough to keep me fresh all day. Although not the worst I have ever tried, Mitchum 48hrs protection really isn't worth the investment. I won't be buying it again, cannot recommend it and unfortunately, due to irritation it causes lately, I will probably have to throw the remaining product away. What a shame!
By the way, same applies to the spray variation I have also tried, only without itching so far.
Summary: Avoid!
