I like to vary the roll on deodorants that I use, so when I saw this one on offer a while back I decided to give it a go. Even at half price (I paid about £1.10) there were other cheaper options available, but I must admit I do tend to lean towards branded items in the deodorant department as I do tend to find they work much better. This roll on is also importantly an anti-perspirant.
I have pretty sensitive skin, so the name 'Calm and Care' and the fact the bottle claims to give gentle care for 24 hours definitely helped attract me to this product. The bottle clearly states that the product is also supposed to help skin recover after shaving - a definite plus point for me as normally straight after shaving my underarms feel a bit irritated. The study looking glass bottle with the aqua green lid also helped this product stand out (to me anyway, I love green!) on the shelf. The glass is clear, allowing you to see the white product inside - great for seeing how much you have left! The glass the bottle is made from is very sturdy and copes easily with my clumsiness and butter fingers.
~So does it work?~
Put simply, yes. Well, mostly. In regards to its first job - being an anti-perspirant deodorant I find it pretty much does it's job. The only real time that I find it didn't really live up to my expectations was a rare particularly hot day. In Nivea's defence I was also out in the garden doing a bit of planting, but I would have hoped for a bit better protection. On a normal general day however, this product works fine. I wouldn't say it would last 24 hours, (I can't say I've tested this one out), but it does last what could be regarded as a 'normal' day.
I personally do find it helps after shaving, and tends to reduce and soothe the irritated feeling I get. So a tick from me on that one.
The 'ball' part of the roll on is relatively small (in comparison to some others) which means that it is really easy to apply a nice thin even layer, so a plus point for me. It takes a few minutes to dry, but no longer than any other roll on. Fragrance wise, it gives a nice 'fresh' smell, but is subtle and isn't too overpowering as some deodorants can be. Especially good if you want to wear perfume as it doesn't get 'mixed in' with your favourite fragrance. One 50ml bottle tends to last quite a long time too, despite the fact I apply it once (twice if am going out in the evening thus had an extra shower) a day.
Overall a pretty good product. Pretty much does what it says on the bottle. Only two disadvantages are the price and the one day I felt it could have performed a little better. I would recommend this product, but would advise you to try and catch it on the cheap. As mentioned before I do like to vary my deodorants, but would definitely buy again if find it on offer.
Personal freshness is important to me and after showering each morning applying a good anti perspirant is vital. I have been led to believe using the same brand all the time can cause it to become less effective so every now and then I buy a different brand, which was how I came to buy the Nivea one. I'm not a Nivea fan although as a teenager I'm sure I used a tub of the cream on my face, but it was less than half price and I do like a bargain so decided to try it.
Why did I buy it?
Well as I said it was half price, but it also is called Calm and Care and it says it helps skin recover after shaving so I decided to give it a try.
How will you find it on the shelf?
It's quite a small glass bottle- about 10cm high with a pretty aqua domed screw lid. The deodorant appears to be slightly aqua tinted too and the decorations on the front of the bottle are also in aqua and dark blue.
It contains Provitamin B5 and witch hazel but no alcohol. It is perfumed and does smell pleasantly floral. The witch hazel or Hamamelis Virginiana extract is an astringent. I also discovered that it contains Gratissima oil which is Avocado oil, another product that is good for the skin. The active ingredient which is not seen until you buy the deodorant and peel off the label is Aluminium Chlorohydrate which many people are unhappy about.
The instructions are to roll on evenly and allow to dry before dressing and not to apply to broken skin. But it is specially designed to be used to support the skin's recovery after shaving.
Good - It smells lovely and fresh. The freshness lasts all day.
It prevents heavy perspiration and unpleasant odour.
It didn't sting when used after shaving, but neither does my usual one!
Bad. It takes a long time to dry before dressing, and dancing around the bedroom flapping my arms doesn't give me a good start to the day!
It doesn't stop perspiration on really hot days, there was a moistness under my arms which I wasn't happy about.
Unless on offer it is expensive at over £2 for 50ml.
Do I recommend it?
Sadly no. I feel there are too many negative things, but it does smell nice!
Recently I was in Morrison's doing my normal shop and picking up a few toiletries along the way when I put into my trolley the Nivea Calm & Care roll on deodorant. I quite like Nivea deodorants but had never seen this one so thought I would give it a try. It was on offer as well at £1.07, at half price instead of £2.14 which made it even more of a brucie bonus.
The deodorant comes in a glass bottle and has a green plastic lid with creamy white liquid content, in a 50ml size. The deodorant claims that it calms and soothes your skin after shaving providing gentle care, now this is an idea I quite like as I normally am always shaving and then applying deodorant immediately which sometimes can sting a bit and that is never comfortable or in any way enjoyable! The deodorant comes with Nivea's 24 hour anti perspirant protection against sweat and smells, and its caring formula which contains witch hazel and pro vitamin B5 which calms and soothes you skin particularly after shaving and is supposed to leave your underarms feeling smoother and softer.
The deodorant contains no alcohol or colours and is dermatologically approved. Now one of the main attractions of this deodorant for me apart from the ability to use it straight after shaving is the smell, it smells fabulous and fresh and is worth buying for that alone. The fragrance also remains throughout the day which is reassuring and pleasant and gives you some extra confidence. I found the Nivea Calm & Care to work effectively and is just as good if not better than my previous deodorant, definitely better when you factor in the fragrance.
I will be back at Morrison's to stock up on the half price offer to keep me in deodorant and smelling sweetly for the next few months. I definitely recommend this deodorant - it is mild, soothing and beautifully fragranced and it works to boot, I give it a 5 star rating!
Recently I've been wearing Mum roll on but for the last month or so I've been struggling to find it in stock anywhere. On my last trip to Morrisons I looked again and when it wasn't on the shelf decided to try something else. I chose this Nivea Calm & Care roll on because it sounded gentle and I have very sensitive skin and also because it was on offer. On offer actually only brings it to normal price however, I paid just over a pound for this 50ml bottle and that was half price so normally it's quite steep compared to most other roll ons.
The bottle is glass and stands upright, the liquid inside is an off white and the label tells us this contains no alcohol and will keep you dry and fresh for 24 hours. It also contains witch hazel and should soothe the skin after shaving hence the name "calm and care". The ball is a smallish one so you can apply it accurately and without getting so much on it won't dry.
The deodorant (actually and anti-perspirant) smells like a mixture of chamomile flowers and herbs but there is no chamomile in this! It reminds me a bit of how Timotei shampoo used to smell and I really like the delicate fragrance of this. I can't stand when you can smell deodorant all day long over whatever perfume you are wearing and this is one you actually have to get close to in order to smell it so that's good.
The first day I tried this it was that recent hot day we had and round our way it was 28 degrees so a bit on the warm side! I applied after my morning shower and hoped for the best. The deodorant dried in a few minutes like most roll ons do so there was no arm flapping necessary! I also did some pilates that day and my usual wandering around doing housework and things like that. After the whole day of wearing this I had no nasty whiffs evident which was excellent but my underarms were not completely desert dry more like slightly moist. To be honest though it was a pretty challenging day to try it and I think most anti-perspirants do actually have this feature as they don't block the sweat glands completely. This wouldn't have been enough to leave any wet marks on clothing however and as I still smelt of the roll on I wasn't really troubled by it.
I've been using it since that day and on slightly cooler days it does keep me entirely dry, I've used it after shaving and it doesn't irritate my skin but I don't find it any more soothing than any others either so the claim that it soothes skin after shaving is probably a bit much. I haven't noticed any white marks with this roll on so that's a plus. I can't comment on the 24 hour claim either as I never go that long without a bath or a shower, I think manufacturers know we're not going to try that claim out so perhaps one of these days one of us should!
Overall I'm quite pleased with it, the scent is lovely and light and it does work effectively to keep nasty odours at bay and except for that really hot day keeps me completely dry. I don't think it soothes the skin though but it doesn't irritate after shaving either. One thing I'm not impressed with though is the full price, over £2 for a roll on is alot and there are plenty of other ones out there for alot less. I will buy this again if it's on offer but I don't think I'll be happy to pay full price for it.
I'm giving this roll on 4 stars as it's a really nice fragrance and does work but I have to deduct the one star for the price. Hopefully when this is no longer a new product the price will fall.
