Disadvantages: Doesn't stop you sweating or smelling
I really love the Dove deodorants but for my birthday I got a few different brands of deodorants off my mother (I don't know if she was trying to tell me something!?) and not being one to knock a gift horse in the mouth, I gave each of them a go. One of the first ones that I used was the Double Effect Anti-Persipirant Deodorant Roll on by Nivea.
What does the product do?
The product is designed to stop you from sweating and to also stop your armpits from smelling badly, and it promises to do this for up to 48 hours after each application. It promises to be gentle and to leave the under arm skin feeling soft and smooth.
How does it work?
The product promises to leave the skin feeling soft and smooth thanks to the addition of Avocado extract which moisturises and nourishes the skin with vitamins and minerals. The deodorant contains Glycerin which draws moisture into the skin and also the skin to hold onto to it. The product is alcohol free with no artificial colourings and the product has been dermatologically approved so it is gentle on the skin too.
How do you use the product?
The first time that you use the product you need to roll the ball a few times to release the product. The product is then to be rolled evenly on to freshly cleaned armpits. You are advised to wait until the product has dried before dressing. You shouldn't apply the deodorant to irritated or broken skin.
Aroma
The aroma of this deodorant is called Violet Senses and this is described as being a delicate flower fragrance. And when they say delicate, they certainly mean delicate as it is really barely there. It is probably the weakest and faintest aroma that I have ever smelt on a product of this type and I was worried that this would mean that no bad smells would be masked by it. It does smell like flowers and a little bit of musk but you need to breathe in really deeply to smell anything at all.
Packaging and Price
The packaging of the product looks really nice. It comes in a heavy glass bottle which does weigh down my handbag but it also looks attractive. The weight of the product means that it is impractical for travelling on holidays with as it would take up a lot of your baggage allowance. You can see the cloudy liquid inside and there is a lilac sticker label on the bottle which tells you a tiny bit more about the product. It has a lovely lilac lid which you twist to remove and then you see the roller ball dispenser underneath.
The product will cost you around £2 for 50ml of the deodorant and it is available from most supermarkets, department stores and also from a variety of online websites.
Application
The product is easy to apply to the underarm and the roller ball never gets stuck. A lot of the product comes off when you use the product so it doesn't take long at all to get the desired coverage. The faint aroma is barely noticeable even at this stage which is a disappointment. It takes a few minutes to dry on the armpits so you do have a bit of a wait before dressing. It doesn't feel sticky under the arm or make me feel uncomfortable at all. I have used the product straight after shaving and it didn't sting.
Performance
As with all of my experiences with Nivea, this has been a disappointing one. It didn't stop me from smelling which was no big surprise to me and it didn't stop me sweating at all. It probably made my skin a bit softer but if I'm being honest, my underarms being soft isn't one of my main priorities in life! I find the claims of this product lasting 48 hours laughable as it doesn't even last for one.
Conclusion
All in all, this is a really disappointing deodorant that doesn't keep any of its promises or fulfil any of my expectations of a good anti-perspirant. It doesn't have much of an aroma, it takes a while to dry and it's too heavy to carry around with me in my handbag... Not that I would want to do this!!
Summary: An all round disappointing product that doesn't fulfill any of its anti-perspirant duties
