Soft and Gentle Anti-Stress Aromatherapy Lavender and Patchouli antiperspirant deodorant first caught my eye as lavender is one of my favourite scents. You can find this quite easily in bath products and soaps but I haven't found a realistic smelling lavender deodorant as opposed to a body spray so easy to get hold of. I bought the spray first of all, but most recently I have been using the roll-on so this review covers both. I purchased the roll-on in Poundworld, where they also stock the spray, but not realising the last fact, I paid £2.25 for it in Superdrug. [ 250 ml.] You know where to look first now! The roll on costs around £1.75 for 50ml outside of the poundshops too.
AROMATHERAPY IN A BOTTLE
The anti-perspirant deodarant is part of an aromatherapy inspired range from Palmolive Soft & Gentle. The scent I chose is supposed to offer an "anti-stress" calming scent. I was a bit sceptical that this would prove to be relaxing for me because I didn't think the scent would be very strong, based on other Palmolive deodorants that I have used. If I couldn't smell it throughout the day, would it be still be able to work it's magic on me? I was therefore just as interested on how the deodorant would actually work as a standard product. Palmolive say that their product will work for up to 24 hours, which is more than enough for me. It isn't labelled as a product that will reduce white marks or improve your skins condition, but I mainly wanted a product that will prevent odour and wet marks so that was fine by me.
I like the spray version as the dispenser gives a generous but still gentle feeling spritz with a soft press. I do however prefer the roll on format because I think that the deodorant feels less "wet" when it goes on. I wouldn't call either fast drying, but I have been pleased that the deodorant doesn't feel sticky while it dries. This makes waiting to dress seem less of a pain. I wait about 15 minutes, which probably is a bit cautious but I want to avoid yellow/white marks on my clothes. I thankfully haven't noticed any when using the Soft and Gentle deodorants, so the wait is worth it. Apart from that, the deo feels nice enough on the skin. The roll on one doesn't catch or drag on my underarms, and it keeps working smoothly once you have used a fair bit up. I find some products dry out and develop "gunk" around the roller ball after a while which is a pain to scrape off. The other benefit of the roll-on is the fact the bottle is now contoured to make it easier to hold. I didn't really appreciate what a difference this makes until I had used it a few times with wet and slightly soapy hands! Not a make or break feature but still handy, if you will pardon the pun.
I like the scent of this but to me the patchouli isn't that evident. I can clearly smell the lavender, but I would in all honesty like it to be stronger. However, I suspect that the milder scent would probably find more favour with those that would find a stronger lavender aroma a bit old fashioned. Overall, the deodorant can be smelt throughout the day if my nose hovers close to my underarms but not much otherwise. I can live with that providing I can't smell any sweat, which brings me to..
DOES IT WORK?
Thankfully yes, as an deodorant at least. I have found this strong enough to offer protection from unwanted odour all day even when I have been doing heavy lifting etc outside. This is usually a good test although I am not what I would generally call a heavy sweater or should that be heavy perspirer? I first used the spray during the summer when we had a few warmer days at least and it still worked efficiently then. However as a anti perspirant I don't think it works as well because I have noticed damp patches on my clothes at the end of a day. When I work in my office job and I am not that active, I haven't noticed any problem. It is just when I have been more active, for example digging. This is the case with both the spray and roll on, with the last performing a bit better I think.
On the plus side, I do like the scent, and I have not suffered from any skin irritation. I don't have sensitive skin usually. I have found that the product doesn't feel too harsh/stinging on skin that has been recently shaved, which is a plus point although I do wait a little while after shaving before using it. You are advised not to use it on sore or broken skin, which is true of all similar products I find.
As to feeling less stressed while wearing this product, I can't say that I have noticed any difference at all. I like lavender a lot and the smell does remind me of summer days doing what I love - being out in the garden. So any whiff of it probably gives me happy thoughts and so makes me a little less stressed to some extent. But I am not really aware of the scent much throughout the day, unless I actually sniff at my armpits. I think I may get strange looks from my work colleagues if I stuck my nose under my arm everytime I feel a little frazzled!
WOULD I RECOMMEND THE DEODORANT?
If you mainly want an deodorant, and not an anti perspirant, and don't mind one that doesn't dry very fast, I would recommend this. The scent is nice and not overwhelming, and the product feels nice on the skin. I need one that is better at preventing damp patches, when I am being active. I don't think this would work well if you used it while exercising for example. For less energetic activities, it is probably good enough though as I don't have problems with it when I am office bound. As an anti stress solution, I woulddn't rate it highly, nice as the idea sounds. I have bought this deodorant more than once because for £1 it is good value for money and does keep me sweet smelling. Overall, I am not sticking to it exclusively though because I need something stronger in the anti perspirant stakes at times.
Available in the usual places such as Superdrug and the supermarkets - but check the poundshops first!
Normally I pick this product up from supermarkets. They always seem to have this deodorant on offer for around £1. So being quite a big impulse buyer I always seem to get one in my trolley. The can states that it helps with anti-stress and has 24 hours protection.
The packaging is very simple. It comes in a lovely purple and white 150ml aerosol can. With purple writing on the front, easy to read instructions and a little about the product on the back. The other scents come in slightly different coloured bottles, relating to what the scent is.
The scent of this particular bottle I lavender and patchouli. It's very fresh and clean smelling and you can slightly smell the lavender in there. The thing with the product is that it's not made me feel any less stressed when smelling or putting it on. Also it's never really lasted me 24 hours, maybe around 12 but that's really all I need.
Although soft and gentle has not made me feel less stressed or lasted the 24 hours I still think its a good product to have and a good brand (Palmolive). It's cheap to get and can be found in most places. A good deodorant to have.
I occasionally buy Soft and Gentle, mainly when it's reduced in price, because I like the fragrance. The aromatherapy range is as good as any body spray. However, I find, as an anti perspirant, it doesn't give the best protection - after a couple of hours I can be conscious that I am not dry and am constantly topping up. Having said that, I still buy it, and it comes in a nice sized bottle which is slim enough to fit in my handbag.
I have used Palmolive Soft & Gentle Aromatherapy Anti-stress Deodorant many times without actually reaslising that it was supposed to be anti-stress. I have picked up the same bottle for ages - and the aromatherapy aspect of it really just passed me by, and as I haven't noticed that it had any de-stressing qualities, I think you can forgive me for not noticing! A 150ml spray can (which lasts me about 3 weeks) costs £2.19 from my local chemist - which I feel is a really good price.
The anti-perspirant spray can version comes in an attractive purple and white metal can that looks nice and feminine and does jump off the shelf at me. It has an aerosol nozzle which works well and I have never had one break down on me. The aroma of the deodorant is a mixture and it's actually quite hard to pinpoint exactly, but there is definite hints of lavender in it which, for me, is the overwhelming single aroma. Lavender has de-stressing qualities and so I assume this is where the anti-stress element of the product comes into play. However, as I've said, I can't say I've particularly noticed that I'm less stressed when I use this deodorant as opposed to any other! Having said that, it is a pleasant lavender soapy smell that melds well with any other fragrances that I'm wearing.
The deodorant does work and it helps to keep my underarms dry and non-sweaty and non-stinky! I am not a very sweaty person anyway, but even when I've been working out at the gym, this manages to keep me relatively sweat free under my arms. It does claim to work for 24 hours and I think that this might be pushing it a little. I would say it works for about 15 hours, after which time it really is time for a shower and a fresh application. It doesn't leave white marks on clothes and I don't get any of those horrible white crumbly bits that some deodorants can leave you with.
Soft and gentle are a brand I trust simply because they have been around for so longhowever this product I feel doesnt deliever everything it promises.
The Smell is pleasant but its not long lasting like some other products I have used in the past such as dove. When you spray the product I find that it can be quite harsh when you breath in which isnt great for someone such as myself who is quite sensative to smells and sprays.
In terms of of it actually working it does prevent you from sweting and I only apply it in the morning before work and it will last me until the end of the day which is great. Although, I havnt experienced any white marks with this product myself I have heard reports of people who have which again isnt great.
The pacaking is satisfying but what puts me off this product is that it doesnt seem very modern. It really needs to update itself with its packaging and scents and although it seems to have tried to do that, in my opion it has failed.
And as for aromatherapy.... are you kidding me? Not anti-stress in the slightest
Overall a good buy. I dont know about it be anti-stress but is a very affective deodrant. it is a very nice smelling deodorant. I find it very hard to find one i like that does not have a powdery smell to it. I also found this product very senestive friendly i suffer reguarly with skin irration due to chemicals in most products. this gave me no awful rashes or a discomfort. I think its in quite a nice package as well. I would like to add that it very well priced for what iit is. I find that palmolive have a very large range of differet deodrants on offer so there is one to suit everyone. all in all a good product which does what it says it will. the only down fall i thinnk personlly is that its in such a small spray bottle but i know many people will lik this as it caan fit in there handbag.
Recently I found the soft and gentle range on offer at Asda for £1 for a 150ml tin which I thought was pretty good as they usually sell at £1.83 or £2.54 for the bigger 250ml tin. I picked this option as I was rather intrigued by the claim that it is an anti-stress aromatherapy deodorant.
The deodorant comes in a white tin with a lovely purple at the bottom fading up to the white, on the top is a purple push on lid which matches the colouring at the bottom of the tin. On the front of the tin soft and gentle is written in purple with a picture of some purple flowers twisting up the tin and the fragrance is given as Lavender and Patchouli.
On the rear of the tin you have the information that this is 24 hour protection, the ingredient list and contact details for Colgate Palmolive who are the makers of the product. The deodorant is supposed to be anti-stress as it contains essential oils, you are also given the usual warnings about solvent abuse and pressurised containers.
The deodorant itself is administered the same as any other with a push down spray hidden under the lid, the spray comes out in quite a powerful burst so one to two squirts is enough. The smell of this is flowery but sweet at the same time, I don't usually like things with a lavender fragrance but I cannot smell any lavender in this at all. The deodorant leaves me feeling fresh all day even in my office at work which gets very stuffy by an afternoon without any need to reapply although I wouldn't say it lasts 24 hours. As for the anti-stress claims I am generally not a very highly stressed person but I would not say that this has made any difference to how stressed I do get. I would buy this again as it gives great protection and has a great scent but don't buy it to reduce stress as I really do not believe it does.
I used to use this deodorant when it was a different formula, and I had to say I loved it, however I was devastated when they changed both the packaging and scent! I've used the Palmolive aromatherapy de-stress shower gel for a few years, and find this scent pleasant and relaxing, however it isn't as nice in deodorant-form I have found.
At around £2.50 for a 150ml can, it isn't the cheapest deodorant, however I would look for deals in your multi-purpose stores or drugstores if you want to try this out.
The packaging is simple, white with purple writing and decor and a purple cap, which does go with the theme of 'calm'. It claims to be an anti-perspirant that provides '24 hour protection' with the scent of lavendar, ylang ylang and patchouli.
Although the smell isn't unpleasant, I don't think it smells especially 'clean' (I prefer 'soapy' smelling deodorant myself) and have found it doesn't really keep the smell of sweat completely at bay! Although I don't sweat that much, the smell of this deodorant combined with the perspiration isn't all that pleasant, and you can definitely tell that you have been sweating - not great!
Overall, it's a decent deodorant, but I don't think it gives 24 hour protection or is de-stressing!
I've tried many other Brands of deodorant sprays and i have been let down i can say this one of the best. The smell is light and refreshing and not too overpowering especially for the fact that i have asthma i have had no trouble with breathing when i have sprayed it. it is very effective, especially on active days when i go to my Zumba classes . This is one of the few deodorants I can wear with confidence without having to reapply during my day. It is very good to use on nights out especially if your going club and with all the dancing that i do i do not sweat vigorously , i am sure every woman can relate nothing gets worse than a visible sweat patch. I've often found that most deodorants I've tried irritate my skin , especially after shaving i have had a burn from a deodorant i have used before this one is far from it i cant even feel a slight tingle or sting.
I've tried many other Brands of deodorant sprays and can honestly say - THIS ONE IS ONE OF THE BEST . It has a light refreshing smell and not too overpowering. I find its very effective, especially on active days out with my family . This is one of the few deodorants I can wear with confidence without having to reapply during my day.
Its also great for nights out or special occasions as like any other women I like to wear perfumes - glad to say it never clashes no matter which one I've chosen.
I've often found that most deodorants I've tried have either irritated my skin or stung after shaving under arms ( with soft & gentle aromatherapy - I can apply it straight after shaving ) , but this one is extremely good and lives up to its name .
I've used this for a few years now and would recommend it to anyone !!
Palmolive Soft and Gentle Antiperspirant Spray comes in a 150ml aerosol can which is purple and white and costs around £1.85 per can (Source: Boots website).
When using this product, I've found it highly effective as an antiperspirant, leaving me feeling dry during the day, but has nothing about it to set it a part from all the other antiperspirant sprays with different scents available from Soft & Gentle. The Aromatherapy aspect, in my opinion, hinders the scent, into something I find quite irritant to my throat (although I often have to be careful with what sprays I use). I expected a light fragrant smell, something soothing such as lavender which you would associate with the purple colouring of the can, however, no such joy, so not quite fitting with the "anti-stress" part of the product description. The product claims to include essential lavender oils, but the scent of which is not prominent enough, and therefore the fresh feeling I would normal get after spraying a scented antiperspirant is not there.
I would not recommend this product and would prefer other products in the Soft and Gentle range over this one.
These are the only deoderants I buy! I don't like roll ons and prefer a spray. The reason I love them so much is because they do not sting underarms after shaving or irritate at all. Also there is never any white marks after using them. They smell great too, this one in particular has a lovely lavender smell, albeit slightly strong...I prefer this as it means it lasts longer. The smells are quite pretty, i'm not sure there is anything aromatheraputic about it though, it's just a nice smelling deoderant.
The bottles are the perfect size for throwing into your handbag, but using them everyday means that they don't last very long. It's great for touch ups throughout the day, especially as it leaves no white marks if your forced to do so underneath your top / shirt. The bottle design is very pretty & girly which I like.
I would say that the smell lasts all day, as well as preventing sweating. I give this product 5 stars because it is one of the few deoderants that i've used that prevent irritation as well as preventing white marks. Great for ladies with sensitive skin 5*.
I bought this deodorant in Superdrug one day after seeing it on offer for 99p. I normally use the roll-ons but was looking for something to put in my bag and take to work with me for days when I walk in.
The first thing that I liked about this is that it smells lovely. It does have a pretty relaxing lavender fragrance but in quite a modern way - it smells far more aromatherapy than bargain basket chemist!
My main concern was that it may not work as well as an antiperspirant does - especially if I had been exercising. In the end I tend to double up on my deodorant and use an antiperspirant before I leave for work, and then top up with this when I get there. What I really like about it is that it makes you feel fresh after doing some exercise in a way that a roll on or stick just wouldn't, but I'm still not confident enough to go without the roll-on first thing!
A great freshener to keep in your bag during the day - I've even used it as body spray on occasions!
Can deodorant really be soft & gentle? After using this product my answer is yes! This product is cheap compared to some of the other brands that make deodorant and you can sometime pick it up on special offer which is even better. They last quite a while, although there are other products in the market that come in bigger cans and last longer. HOWEVER, this product is without a doubt one of the best. It smells gorgeous. The scent also seems to last all day, some other deodorants can fade, this one lasts all day. Use this and you will be smelling and feeling fresh throughout the day! In comparison to some of the other soft and gentle products, I would definatley recommend this one from the aromatherapy range. Once you have used this product, I do not see you returnin to your old mediocre deodorants. This is most surely one of the top products on offer, given it's cheap price tag.
I tend to reach for a tin of Soft and Gentle every now and again. Probably more than any other Deodorant but that is probably because there is often special offers on this brand in Asda quite often. For years I just stuck to Sure for a Deo, and for some reason I always thought that Soft and Gentle wouldn't give me that great protection. Perhaps it is in the name, but I have to say the brand holds up well.
You can get the brand in a good amount of different scent so their should be a scent for everyone. The few in the Aroma Therapy range are probably my favourite ones.
These come in the usual 150ml tins and the right price of this is around £1.70. It can often be found for £1 every now and again and it is then that I choose to stock up. After all why not take advantage of a good offer on a product that I use every day.
The tin looks like the picture. An ok tin which is bright enough with the white and purple colouring. It is easy enough to hold as well as although it is a little chunky, it isn't too thick.
So how does this smell? The scent in here is Lavender and Ylang Ylang. First of all i'm not a fan of Lavender, but the scent in here doesn't smell like your usual lavender scent. The smell isn't a light scent but also not heavy either. There is perhaps a dash of a sweet scent but not that much and this scent and the sparkling scent break up the slightly heavier kind of scent. It's a nice scent.
This sprays out in a dry jet. Not too cloudy a spray, and I don't get any powdery flaky bits fall off this when I spray either. This dries quickly so you can pop your top on straight away without needing for it to dry. This keeps me feeling dry and gently scented through the day.
A good product that I would recommend to try if you haven't already.
