I have tried many deodorants in the past and I generally tend to buy them depending on the price, not the brand. At the time of purchase (which was a while ago now) the Palmolive Soft & Gentle Aroma Therapy Sensual Antiperspirant Deodorant cost only £1 and was on offer in Wilkos. The actual fragrance of this product is Wild Rose and Vanilla.
The deodorant comes in your average canister for this kind of product. The colours on the canister are mostly pink and white, with the bottom being a bright pink with white covering the top two thirds. The pop off lid matches the bright pink colour at the bottom of the canister. The words Soft & Gentle are printed on in large letting which makes the product stand out on a shelf. There are also pictures of flowers which makes it appear feminine.
Once the pink cap is off, it reveals a push down white spray nozzle. With a first, hard press, the nozzle releases the deodorant. It is advised that you spray this roughly 15-30cm away from the body. The deodorant comes out quickly once the nozzle is pressed in a white spray form. One thing I dislike about this deodorant is how thick the spray is. My flat is pretty small and the bathroom has no ventilation so if I use this product in there, the room fills up and makes it hard to breathe. Instantly though, you can smell vanilla with the hints of rose coming out slowly. The vanilla is by far the strongest of the two scents but I don't mind this at all as I love the smell of vanilla.
Palmolive claim that this product is 'specially formulated to battle unwanted wetness and unpleasant odours throughout the day.' They also claim that it has a 24 hour formula which can keep you fresh and dry. I do find that this deodorant lasts for a good few hours, helping to keep away sweat and any unpleasant smells that this can cause. However, there is no way it lasts anywhere near 24 hours. I don't even think it really lasts for 6. Maybe the whole 24 hour thing is for people who barely sweat at all and not normal people.
While this deodorant has a lovely scent, it just doesn't last which is a shame. This is one of the few deodorants which doesn't leave horrible white marks but it also doesn't do what I need it to do. For £1 though, I guess I can't complain too much.
Palmolive is a brand that makes me feel safe and warm and takes me back to my childhood with the brands my mum used to use. It was the brand that attracted me away from my regular deodorant and to try this one.
I love using aromatherapy oils and wondered how this would fit with a spray. Whilst the scent is very pleasant I would hardly describe it as aromatherapy! I felt neither relaxed nor calmed after use but I was happy with its use as a deodorant. The deodarant did keep me dry as I would hope and it didnt flake away and I was able to dress staright away after, so very handy for busy work mornings when roll ons just take forever to dry!
The tag of aromatharapy is really quite out of place but the general scent is very pleasant and it does the job you need so Its really quite a good purchase especially when it is on offer.
This Soft & Gentle Aroma Therapy in 'Sensual' used to be the only antiperspirant I used. For years, this was my absolute one and only. I have since branched out though, as I tend to buy whatever represents the best deal these days but often this falls comfortably into that category. I got this in Semi Chem, in the 150ml size, for just £1 and since I only bought it as a 'top up' to last the rest of the week until the supermarket-shop, this was great (I usually buy the big size of antiperspirant you see, but couldn't resist this for £1).
The main reason I stayed loyal to this one for so long is the smell. It's just beautiful and I love it. I don't have any trouble with excessive sweating or odours, so I can pretty much pick up any spray off the shelf and so long as it's not poor quality, be happy with it, This one contains orchid extract and essential oils of jasmine and rose. While my nose is not particularly trained to pick out individual scents within a fragrance, I can say that these are blended really well to give an overall lovely, sweet and very feminine fragrance. I can probably smell the jasmine the most, which pleases me as jasmine is one of my favourite scents.
This one comes in a lovely red, white and pink can, with not much on it except the product info. Near the top, the can indents to make holding it easy and comfortable. This is indeed the case, though it's not something to worry about as you only have to hold it for a very brief time each day! The semi transparent red cap pulls off to reveal the standard aerosol push nozzle. You simply push and hold this down to dispense the antiperspirant which comes out in a fine mist, giving good coverage without needing to spray excessively.
This antiperspirant passes the white marks test for me, I have never had it settle on my skin white/powdery, or leave any marks on my clothes at all. And I do confess to being a little heavy handed with antiperspirant! This one has another claimed benefit in its "skin smoothing soy formulation"; this promises to leave your armpits feeling soft and smooth, aiding you in getting a close shave so you can "dare to bare". It also contains no alcohol, so you shouldn't experience any stinging at all, even straight after shaving. I never have this problem though, even with sprays that do contain alcohol, so it fulfills its promise there for me.
I can't say I've noticed any real difference in my armpit skin though, but I do rub some body butter in to my underarms after shaving before I get out the shower, in order to keep that frequently-shaved area in tip top condition. Overall though, this is a really nice spray to use. It keeps me dry and smelling gorgeous for the whole day (I can't vouch for excessive exercise as unfortunately I'm not really capable of strenuous exercise at the moment due to skeletal problems). I think this size can often be had for around £1 which to me, offers fine enough value as it lasted me almost a full week. So I would of course recommend it!
=== The product ===
This is an anti-perspirant deodorant scented with essential oils of 'Wild Rose & Vanilla'. It's advertised as being fabulously feminine and I don't think it was this that drew me in, I think it was the £1.00 price for a well known and trusted brand, trusted be my anyway.
=== The packaging ===
This deodorant is provided in a standard canister. It has a red pop off lid which reveals the spray nozzle. A simple press down on the nozzle will release the spray wherever you want it to go. The packaging is quite nice, girly and the aerosol bottle has flowers on it plus all the usual safety information, ingredients, company information and barcode.
=== The scent ===
When I spray this and give it a sniff I can notice the vanilla straight away. I'm not really sure what wild roses smell like as I don't have any growing near where I live, to my knowledge, however, there is a floral scent within this spray that's also very nice. The scent is wonderful, it's not overpowering but it's long lasting. Towards the end of a long day wearing this I can notice more spicy notes coming through which make me feel relieved that I still smell good and I'm not sweating.
=== Does it work? ===
Yes. I have been using this every morning after I have showered and brushed my teeth and before I get dressed. As I write this review I have been wearing this for 9 hours, in those 9 hours I have hoovered, mopped, cooked, cleaned, baked & exercised lots in general. I have been kept very busy and yet when I lift my arm there is no horrible odour, if I touch my armpit it's dry and while I do not emit floral fragrance every time I move, as claimed with some similar brands, I feel confident that this won't let me down and leave me smelling like a tramp while I'm out and about.
=== Where can I buy this and how much for? ===
I purchased mine, on two or three occasions now, from Poundland for £1.00 but this can also be purchased from most supermarkets for around £1.83-£1.85, however, when I searched on mysupermarket.co.uk I saw that this is currently just £1.00 in Tesco & Asda until near the end of August 2011.
=== My overall opinion ===
This deodorant has been very good to me, so far! I usually find that I start using a deodorant and within a week or two, and me having put it really through it's paces, I find that it's a let down in the anti-perspirant department, however, this hasn't been the case with this and I've been using it for a month or two overall.
I love the scent of this deodorant, it's quite feminine and while it's not the strongest I've ever used I do catch the odd whiff of it throughout the day which leaves me feeling very confident that it's working effectively and I'm not suffering from any body odour or wet patches.
On one or two occasions I have noticed that my left armpit has become a little bit sore but I'm not sure whether it's a top irritating it, this deodorant or the type of razor that I have been using lately. It's only happened once or twice and as I'm not sure it's this that's causing it I won't be marking down on this basis.
This is long lasting, works well and has a nice scent. On the average day I will be awake from about 8am, showered and dressed by 9am and I won't be in bed until close to midnight, I find that I usually have a shower in the morning and last thing at night so I'm feeling fresh and relaxed ready for bed and it's easy enough to remove all traces of this with some plain old soap (or shower gel!) and water. There are no traces left on my skin after a wash and I find that just a few bursts of this are enough to give me all day protection.
Overall I am very pleased with the quality of this deodorant, it stops me sweating, it smells nice and it doesn't irritate my skin (well, much if it is at all!). I feel confident when I am wearing this and the price I have been paying is very reasonable. I'd firmly recommend it!
When it comes to deodorants I tend to buy Sure. I don't usually even consider Soft & Gentle as my perception of it is that it doesn't really work. My usual deodorant wasn't in stock so I thought I would try this one on offer at £1 so I couldn't complain too much. Plus it didn't smell too bad.This review is of the roll-on instead of the spray. I prefer roll-ons as they feel more effective to me. Its probably all in my head, but until my brain is convinced either way I'm sticking with roll-ons.
- Packaging -
This item comes in a standard roll-on bottle. The body of the bottle is white, with pinky-red flowers with a pinky-red lid to fit in with the rose scent of the deodorant. The bottle fits well into your hand and the lid twists of easily. Though I have found some of the deodorant ends up at the twisty bit of the bottle, which isn't the intended resting area for the product.
- Scent -
The product is supposed to smell of 'wild rose and vanilla'. The rose scent is the most notable. Its not too strong but even when the product is on it does smell warm but fresh. As for the vanilla, I can't really smell it. It doesn't smell too perfume-like, either. It just seems to live up to its 'soft and gentle' name. It is a nice smell and something that you'd want to smell like.
However, I wouldn't have labelled this as 'sensual'. Its not that its not 'sensual' but its not the feeling/ thought that comes to mind upon smelling.
- Lastability -
The bottle suggests that this deodorant is supposed to last 24hrs. If I haven't done much during the day, I usually can still smell the same scent under my arms. So long as it hasn't been too warm outside - but that doesn't happen very often here - so not too many worries for this.
If I have been exercising and sweating quite a bit then the smell does wear away a bit. The scent is still there and doesn't smell too badly mixed with sweat. Not what you want to go around smelling like, but won't cause a sizable radius of people avoiding you either.
So, I think either way you could say that it does last 24hrs. I wake up with the same scent, a little diminished but just as you would expect, really.
- Use -
To use, just roll on like you would a normal deodorant. Thankfully, it doesn't feel too cold on the skin. And wait until its dried before putting on clothes. It does seem to take quite a while to dry though. I find its best to put the deodorant on and get ready as much as I can before dressing. I am used to using quick dry formulas, though I have found that they are more irritating to my skin, especially after shaving. So I guess its a choice between speed and irritability.
- Other -
I haven't found this product to irritate me. I am not that sensitive to products anyway, but even if I have shaved this is fine to go straight on (something you don't often get with sprays!).
- Conclusion -
I would definitely recommend this product. It is gentle to use, even after shaving, and has caused me no irritation. The scent is nice, does last the day and something you'd want to smell like. Even if you have been exercising you don't smell too badly afterwards. It may not suit those that need a stronger deodorant, but for the general population this is good enough! I think I will be buying this again.
Two years later and I still haven't bought this again.
Although this particular brand isn't up there with the big guns like sure or right guard, the anti-perspirant effect of this was quite good. It's cheaper then the main brands and is often on a 3 for 2 or similar deal.
The main plus for me was that palmolive also do a matching shower gel. Since I'm one of those people who can't handle conflicting smells, it suited my needs!
Although it says 'sensual' on the can, I can't honestly say that it produced any particular effect upon my mood. What I will say, however is that it has quite a pleasant smell. This may be a little sweet for some people's tastes but I quite liked it.
On the negative side, I did find a slight powdering effect on the underarm if sprayed too closely as well as a tendency to leave a White residue.
Overall, a solid product which provides a reasonable level of anti-perspirant protection with a pleasant scent but the unfortunate tendency to leave White marks if you're not careful!
The price of this, you can't really complain. I do like this product but it is not my strong favourite.
It is a cheap product that we buy in from time to time. Generally its on offer at our local supermarket.
They brand the product as "anti-stress" but I can say that it really hasn't done anything for my stres levels! It's definatly not a brand I would wip out in a moment of stress and spray over myself to de stress.
The scent is nice but it's strong and can be very sickly. It tends to linger and I find myself walking whilst spraying it to get away from the cloud of mist that ensues when I spray it. I also tend to find if I have sprayed to much of this product I have white marks on my clothing which Isn't very good when you are wearing black t shirts.
The bottle is very nicely branded, however I think it they had put less time into the colourful bottle and more into making it a less sickly, strong scented deoderant it would have been a million times better.
Although I do have to say it's another product that has been ok on my sensitive skin. So I really can't complain like I said for the price and the fact it doesn't irritate my skin.
Palmolive Soft & Gentle Sensual Aromatherapy Deodorant is what most girls require a lovely smell. It is a light fragrance that is noticable but would not drown out your perfume. Though I would not stay that it lasts 24 hours I would say more like 8 hours and if you already smell I really do not think the light fragrant would cover any nasty wiffs! Not that girls wiff!! But as a straight out of the shower nice fragrance I would recommend as a top up for after the gym I dont think this is your product if your waiting till you get home to have your after work out shower.
As it comes in a number of varieties it also gives you your own individuality. I have used this range for a long time and I have only just tried the aromatherapy deodorant, and for ladies who do lunch and drive every where this could be the one for you!!!
I can't remember exactly when I discovered Palmolive Soft & Gentle Sensual Aromatherapy Deodorant but ever since I did, this is always my first choice in anti-perspirant deodorant. I actually didn't realise it was a Palmolive product but I do also use Palmolive shower gels and bath foams.
Palmolive Soft & Gentle Sensual Aromatherapy Deodorant comes in a rather nicely designed aerosol can. It starts off as a white can that blends into bright pink towards the bottom decorated with flowers. The lid is a transparent pink matching the design of the can. The can I have which is slightly different to the pictured aerosol also has indentations exactly where your hand is placed when holding the can. I don't think it makes a difference but it adds to the design.
This particular deodorant is a Palmolive Soft & Gentle product from the Aromatherapy range. Aromatherapy Sensual is a blend of orchid extract and essential oils of jasmine and rose. I absolutely love the scent of this deodorant which is the main reason I buy it time after time. The fragrance doesn't smell of flowers to me but smells really sweet and fresh. It actually reminds me of what are now called retro sweets but are sweets I used to eat when I was a child called candy necklaces/dolly beads or candy watch bracelets. I find the scent of this deodorant is quite long-lasting and I have been complimented many times when wearing it.
As an anti-perspirant deodorant, this product claims to provide effective 24 hour anti perspirant protection. This product works really well for me although I don't tend to sweat an awful lot even when I exercise. I also don't feel the urge to keep reapplying this product like I have with other deodorants I have used in the past. This deodorant claims to leave your skin irresistibly soft due to a new skin smoothing soy formulation. My armpits are always soft and I use this product on a daily basis - so it must work!
Palmolive Soft & Gentle Sensual Aromatherapy Deodorant is alcohol free. The product also states that it allows for a smooth and close shave. I tend to shave my armpits before applying this anti-perspirant rather than after but have never had any irritation or reaction when using this product. I have had quite a sore reaction using deodorants after shaving before but never with this product. It definitely doesn't sting using this anti-perspirant after shaving either which is another claim the product makes.
The only other edition to the Aromatherapy range that I am aware of is Palmolive Soft & Gentle Anti Stress Aromatherapy Deodorant which contains a relaxing blend of Lavender, Ylang Ylang and Patchouli essential oils. This deodorant is in a purple and white aerosol can rather than pink and white. I have never tried this product but I might give it a try as I like the Sensual version so much.
I think that Palmolive Soft & Gentle Sensual Aromatherapy Deodorant is good value for money!! It is cheap in price and I always find the can lasts a long time. I do tend to buy the larger 250 ml aerosol can rather than the 150 ml can pictured. I would recommend this product to all women - it is fantastic!!
Lets face it girls smelly nice is a must!!!
Palmolive soft and gentle is currently the deodrant im using, i dont like a over power deodrant as a like to use a body spray or perfume to give me the nice fruity smell i like, deodrant for me is only for protection and not as fragrance to be reconised for!!
The smell is perfect for me as its not to strong but it is there, you can smell it.
It doesnt leave any nasty white stains on your clothes which i like because there is nothing more horrifying then going out and someone pointing out white marks under your arms!!
It does leave a misty spray cloud around the room when you spray it, i find i need to move away after i have sprayed it.
Also when i am putting it on, i dont know whether its a good or a bad thing but i dont feel like im wearing anything, and i have found it doesnt offer as much protection as i would like and found other product have given me.
It is very fairly priced, for 150ml bottle you will pay £1.85 in boots stores but if you go to stores like home bargins or wilkinsons then you can pick up a bottle for around 98p which i think is a great price.
i dont completely dislike this product, when the purse is feeling a bit tight one month then its good enough to use when you have to, but when i want to splurge and get a different one i would always opt for the classic Dove, find if just offers more in the way of protection.
Cheap if you know where to buy it, has a nice smell.
Doesnt give as much protection as i would like.
If your busy and constantly on the go then i dont recommend this product. The protection isn't good enough to handle a busy you!!
This is just my opinion on the product from personal use. You might have a different experience with the product!
Soft & Gentle is the Deodrant that I use the most. I never used to use the brand as I felt the only time I had used it then it didn't keep me as dry as other brands. That was years ago when I was gronwing up and my body changing, so things were probably all over the place. I never gave it a second try, as I was put off with it, but due to all the nice scents that were popping up part of this range, and also since the tins were often on offer for £1 then I tried the brand again and it's fine for me now.
I think the normal price for this 150ml tin is around £150-£1.80 depending on where you get it, but Asda is pretty good for the £1 offer.
The tin looks alright. It is mainly white but with pink patches on it and a sort of floral design on the tin.
There is a couple in the Aromatherapy range. I think they are all nice, and I chop and change often. This one is the Sensual one and it does have quite a sensual scent to it. It is Jasmine and Rose Orchid Extract and it is a heavier, slightly floral scent. The scent does smell more a red floral scent, which I would guess it is Red Roses in here. It isn't too strong a scent, but you can smell the 2 scents qutie easily and they go together nice. A good choice of fragrance I would say.
The Spray doesn't come out that fine, but it isn't like the cheaper ones which comes out in a big cloud. The spray seems to dry pretty quickly as well and if you want to reapply then you can do this in a minute.
This keeps the wet patches away and although the scent settles down quick enough, you still get a whiff of this through the day and I can smell this at bed time just.
A good enough buy. It does the job, and is priced good enough too.
Soft and Gentle Aroma Therapy (Jasmine & Rose Orchid Extract) anti-perspirant and deodorant is by fay my favourite!
I am normally a huge fan of the Palmolive brand but to my amazement, I was quite disappointed.
The smell, I think is quite sickly, it seems to linger around and has a horrible spicy smell. Palmolive recommend that this product will last for 24 hours... I have to disagree, the smell of the deodorant is hideous and seems to disguise nothing.. in fact I would say it blends with your natural smells and smells even worse!!
I purchased this bottle a long time ago and it is still left somewhat unused. I would only use it if I was in desperate need (i.e. an emergency).
I tend to use my other Palmolive variety's which have far nicer scents that smell fresh and light.
Palmolive think that this deodorant is "mood enhansing". In fact the only mood I feel when wearing this is ill.. it makes me feel sick!
On the plus side the deodorant does not sting and doesn't produce white patches like some other brands do. It is recommended that you shake before use and spray around 15cm away from your arm.
normally you can purchase from a supermarket for a couple of pounds bit I would definitely save your cash!!
For those who like this product please don't be offended.. I just really don't like the smell...
