Advantages: Has pretty much stopped me sweating!
Disadvantages: Amazing product but can mildly irritate skin!
So for those of you that have read my last review you will know about my struggle with hyperhidrosis, and how much it ruined my life, I mentioned the fact that I have found something that has got me through this summer and put me back on track with wearing what I want and getting my confidence back in life? Well this is the product that has done that!
~*~ So, what is Perspirex? ~*~
Apart from being my saviour in life it is also a roll-on anti lotion for underarms, hands and feet. The information leaflet tells us it is 'Seriously reliable protection against excessive perspiration and odour.' So it gives itself a lot to live up to just from reading the information leaflet!
~*~ What is it made from? ~*~
Strangely enough, it is made from Aluminium chloride - so as you can imagine you have that lovely metallic smell every time you open the bottle, which is enough to put you off initially because I'm not going to lie to you it's an awful strong smell. According to the Perspirex website the roll on is based on alcohol, which is what makes it work the way it does so I'm not going to complain!
~*~ How does it work? ~*~
Well the aluminium chloride in the roll on reacts with the water in your sweat glands to form a keratin plug in your sweat gland, which basically makes it dormant, so you do not experience the sweat from said gland as you would have before. However due to the normal shedding of skin cells in a matter of days the plug will come away and the gland will come back to full working order, which is why you need to reapply every few days to ensure you are covered.
~*~ How do you use it? ~*~
First time users need to ensure their underarms are dry and apply every night until the desired effect is achieved - basically until you stop sweating, or it becomes very minimal sweating; this is meant to happen within a week of using the roll on. Then after that ever y other day for two weeks, and following that two to three nights a week, basically as and when you need it. However be careful not to apply up to 48 hours after shaving, or waxing or however you remove hair if you use it on your underarms, because trust me it will sting! Try to avoid using it on broken skin as well, because that and wet underarms you will regret applying, because it too will sting.
Oh and before I forget make sure it's done at night!
~*~ Where can I apply it? ~*~
You can apply it anywhere that you have a problem with sweating, however you can't put it in places like eyes, or genitalia or something like that. Well why would you in the first place but still, there are rules so that you must not apply it to more than 10% of your body because obviously perspiration is a way of regulating body temperature so you are endangering yourself by applying too much.
~*~ Has it worked for you? ~*~
YES!
Happy days for me, I started using it back in around April this year, and I have not turned back, initially I was dubious to buy it because it is quite costly for a 30ml bottle I think it is - but given that I had my first bottle until November I am happy with how long it lasted, but because you are not applying it every day you aren't using it all the time. Obviously it will depend where you are applying it, personally it was only on my underarms so you don't need a lot - there is still a tiny bit left in my first bottle but I've gone onto a new one now instead of leaving it hanging upside down to use that tiny bit. Warning though, when you start using it, the first roll on your arm will mean bits drip off I think the packaging is a little bit over filled when you get it so watch out for dribbled bits off the ball in the rollerball.
For me when I started using it, it literally took two days to notice a difference in my sweating I was over the moon, couldn't believe how well it worked so quickly. I did carry on for the entire week just to make sure I was prematurely happy, I could have probably stopped four or five days in but I wanted to make sure it had stopped. It was the day that I wore my favourite bright purple animal from the muppets t-shirt that made me happy. It was the first time in a very long time I'd worn a coloured top without a black cardigan over the top to stop anyone noticing the sweat patches - I couldn't stop looking at the underarms of my t-shirt and going oh look there is no sweat I couldn't believe it. I used to struggle with my student nurse uniform as well, in pale blue not a nice thing to see lots of sweat, but on my last placement, not a bead got on my uniform I felt so much more professional and although people still don't take me seriously as a nurse yet I felt more the part than being paranoid about my underarms.
Now I was initially a bit worried about applying this stuff my first thought was it's going to sting, but I haven't really come across anything that's been unbearable. I've felt discomfort, but nothing that put me off sleeping - now they say that this stuff is quite bad for bleaching clothing which is why they suggest using it at night, so bed sheets could get bleached, however I've got some lovely dark blue and brown bedding and it's all still the right colour no bleached patches at all, and well with the colour of my hair the only thing that's changed colour is the pillow cases... I will warn however that your skin can get quite irritated, because it is metal on your skin, I have found with prolonged use that my underarms have got quite itchy and sometimes sore, but it will go off and to be honest it is worth the effect you get from it. The smell, yes it's not very nice but I've not been told that it's the worst smell in the world from my boyfriend when we get into bed, but I think he's so used to it now that he isn't bothered.
I can't comment on how well it works on odour because I didn't have a problem with that in the first place, but it hasn't caused any problems with me since.
Well recommended!
Also if you are unsure it comes with a money back guarantee if it doesn't work for you, you can't go wrong!
~*~ Price and Availability ~*~
It is apparently available in all good chemists and supermarkets... I can't say I've seen it in Asda or Tesco not to say it isn't there... I buy mine from Boots for £7.30, I know it's pricey but it's also 28 points on your Boots advantage card if that swings it at all for you. I would buy it at £15 a bottle it's that effective for me!
