Revlon Lady Mitchum Lady's Roll On Powder Fresh
Advantages: Keeps you fresh and dry much longer than other brands; pleasant fragrance
Disadvantages: Would be great if it dried a bit more quickly
Mitchum's deodorant and antiperspirant range has been around for years quietly going about its business of being one of the most effective brands around. Until recently Mitchum has kept a relatively low profile in terms of advertising but the brand has always had a steady reputation; now, though, with new packaging and a higher profile, Mitchum products are commanding more attention.
The powder fresh-roll on is part of Mitchum's Advanced Control range for women (the range for men is called Mitchum Endurance). Both ranges include aerosols, roll-ons and gel sticks in a variety of scents as a well as a non-scented version in each formulation. Certainly in the UK Mitchum products are much easier to find these days with some of the supermarkets carrying the range whereas in the past you'd have had to buy from somewhere selling a wider range of personal care items.
With the new, more contemporary looking packaging Mitchum may be looking for a new generation of customers. In the past they've possibly relied to some extent on verbal recommendation and now, with the strength of advertising through social networking media and the like, they've realised that the product needs to be visually appealing to get noticed, especially with some of the well known brands introducing similar products. So gone is the middle of road rather old fashioned green, and in comes a fresh pale green for the ladies' range and a strong dark green for the mens' products. The different fragrances in the ladies' range are easy to spot as they can be identified by the colour of the writing and the Powder Fresh products are denoted by pink type.
Mitchum clain that their products are so good that they claim 'you can skip a day' and say that they have been clinically tested to provide 48 hour wetness protection. It sounds like a realistic claim though not one I have fully tested it as I have never had the need to go 48 hours without washing.
Mitchum products contain Aluminum Zirconium Tetrachlorohydrex which is apparently the magic ingredient that makes them so effective. I'm not an expert so I can't comment on the pros and cons of particular ingredients but to know that Mitchum products are approved by dermatologists (though exactly which dermatogists is unclear) is a reassurance I'm happy to accept.
The Powder Fresh roll-on contains Aloe and Vitamin E which is meant to keep the skin on your underarms soft. This antiperspirant has a mild fragrance that has a slight talcum powder smell to it and a very gentle floral aroma. While you can certainly detect the fragrance, it's very gentle and it's not going to compete with any other scented products such as body spray or perfume you might wear on top of it.
After application you need to wait a couple of minutes before dressing, otherwise it becomes sticky and is not as effective. It applies easily, not too thick but certainly a good amount comes out with one roll of the ball, which is slightly larger you'll usually find with a roll-on. In my experience the ball doesn't dry up between uses and always rolls nicely first time. The information on the bottle is fairly standard in that it advises not to use the product on broken skin; I have used it immediately after shaving my underarms and haven't experienced any irritaiton.
I would prefer a product that dries a little more quickly but given its effective performance I'm willing to compromise. Mitchum's roll-ons never fail to keep me dry and fresh smelling, even on long hot days on holiday or when making long journeys.
I'm quite happy to wear clothes of any colour when using Mitchum roll-ons. The formulation is designed not to leave white marks on your clothing, but, as with most products of this kind, you must ensure you allow it to dry properly before dressing otherwise this can't be guaranteed. Furthermore it doesn't discolour the armpit areas of shirts, whether they are whites or vibrant colours.
Mitchum Powder Fresh Antiperspirant Deodorant roll-on outstrips the competition and is the only brand I've found so far that lives up to claims of endurance. It's easy to find and although it isn't the cheapest roll-on around it's staying power and ability to keep me dry is worth paying the extra for. It's currently £2.89 in Boots but they often do three for two offers.

Before I finish I have to mention that in the United States the shape of the bottle differs to that in Europe. The North American bottle has a flat topped cap meaning that you can upend the bottle when you are almost finished; the rounded top of the European packaging makes this impossible. Revlon/Mitchum - please make all of the bottles flat topped!
Summary: A pleasantly fragranced hard working antiperspirant
