I recently bought a roll on deodorant from the Simple range. The reason I bought this was because I couldn't find the one I usually buy - Mum. The Simple one was also on offer, only 99p instead of the usual £2 a bottle. The bottle contains 200ml of deodorant and is quite plainly packaged (as is the rest of this range) with a white plastic small bottle and twist off green lid. I am not particularly loyal to any one brand of deodorant and I usually buy what is on offer at the time. I do however, occasionally suffer from embarrassing itchy and irritated armpits if my deodorant is too strong, and this was another reason I decided to opt for the Simple range, as I thought that it might have been slightly kinder to my skin. As with the rest of the Simple range, this deodorant contains no perfume or colours and is designed to be suitable for sensitive skin. Applying the deodorant is easy and I simply remove the top and turn the bottle upside down. I place the roller ball onto the under arm area directly and gently roll about to dispense the deodorant onto the skin. It feels a very 'wet' roll on deodorant and I must admit it takes longer to dry under my arms than my normal roll on deodorant does. I found I was having to hold my arms out to the sides for quite a while before I could get dressed, which was a bit of a pain as I was running late for work. Once dried however, I was able to wear my clothes without finding any of those horrible black marks. There were no marks in site and I felt fairly confident for the whole day and it didn't need to be reapplied. In hotter weather, however, it's a slightly different story and I find that this deodorant isn't quite up to the competition in terms of its ability to withhold perspiration. If the weather gets to warm I start to feel slightly sticky and feel like it needs to be freshened up. I would therefore probably say that this is a decent deodorant to use unless you know the weather is going to be hotter or humid than usual so I wouldn't choose to wear t during the summer months or on holiday ,but it's fine for using if the weather is on the colder side. I don't think I shall be buying another bottle of this as I actually prefer a deodorant I know will make me feel confident whatever the temperature. It's fairly priced though and one I might still consider if I was going through the 'irritated arm' stage again, just to help to ease the symptoms until I went back to my original deodorant. I give it three out of five stars. Also posted on Ciao! as basketofbuttons
PRICE: Currently £2.20 for 50ml at my local Sainsbury's, and £1.20 for 50ml at my local Factory Outlet shop I recently tried Simple Roll-on Deodorant/Anti-perspirant when I found that other brands which I had regularly used in the past, were no longer suitable for my now very sensitive skin. The product is easily recognisable, in a white container bearing the standard green/white colouring and the usual logo common to Simple products. There isn't an immediately visible list of active ingredients on the container, but there is a message claiming it to be free from perfume and colour. On the rear of the container, there is a peel-back label stating that behind the label is further information about the product, but on peeling my own label back as instructed, I found it to be blank underneath. It is definitely true that Simple Roll-on Anti-perspirant is both perfume-free and is colourless. It rolls on quite smoothly, doesn't sting unless the underarm skin is broken, and I find it dries very quickly compared to other brands of roll-on. I so far haven't suffered any stinging or skin irritation from using this anti-perspirant, and there has been no staining onto clothes, but as to how effective it is in keeping me fresh and dry, is arguable. I ought to say that the deodorising properties work fine at all times and in all conditions, but it is the anti-perspirant function which doesn't seem able to maintain a decent degree of effectiveness during warmer weather. During cooler weather, I only need to apply a very small amount of the product, and it totally succeeds in its prevention of underarm dampness, but when the temperature begins to rise, even though I will apply more than double the dose that I do when it's not so warm, I find its anti-perspirant capabilities minimal at best, being all but useless at worst. Bearing in mind that Simple products are quite expensive, it is sad that their anti-perspirant/deodorant doesn't work well at all when it is most needed. I do accept that the potentially irritant chemicals Simple is devoid of may, in other anti-perspirant brands where they are present, go a long way towards preventing underarm perspiration, but even if this product is kind to skin - which it is - its effectiveness thus suffers. Bearing my skin problems in mind, it is thus all but impossible for me to find an efficient anti-perspirant that won't cause me highly unpleasant levels of irritation and may even further damage my skin. I was hoping that Simple would eradicate this problem for me, but it only manages to do so when the temperature isn't very high. In conclusion, I do still use Simple Deodorant/Anti-Perspirant Deodorant all year round, but although I am pleased with its gentleness, non-staining of clothes and quick-drying properties, the anti-perspirant properties leave a lot to be desired in anything higher than moderate temperatures. I do recommend this product to anybody who suffers from delicate, sensitive, problem skin, but urge you to hunt around factory outlets and pound shops in order to get a far better deal than its High Street chemist or supermarket full price. Deodorants are, as all of you, or maybe only some of you will agree, are an essential beauty buy. Some of us like roll-ons, some like sprays, and others like sticks. Me personally? I like to have a roll-on, but always make sure I have a spray in the house, as sometimes, especially when having just shaved under my arms, I need to be out of the house ASAP, and roll-ons have a bad reputation for stinging the hell out of you, so most aren't handy when you are in a rush! So, to try and avoid the stinging, I thought I'd try Simple as they claim to be kind to skin and alcohol free, which doesn't help the stinging situation. SIMPLE The Simple brand is well known for baby and skincare products which are just that...simple! They usually contain no alcohol, perfume or fragrance, and are mostly all natural ingredients known to be kind to your skin, which is what their motto is. THE BOTTLE The roll-on comes in a 50ml sized white bottle with a large green lid. The lid is very easy to unscrew, and the bottle is a good size making it easy to hold to apply. APPLICATION Opening up the bottle, you get a large clear roll-on ball. Applying to your underarms is easy, as you simply roll the ball over your armpits and the deodorant applies to your skin. The first roll of this deodorant was easy to come out as I find a lot of deodorants I have had in the past, especially MUM ones, tend to dry up between applications and I have to roll the ball a few times to make it moist again, but you don't get this problem with this roll-on. DRYING After applying, one good thing I have found with this roll-on is that it doesn't sting after shaving, which is a major plus, as probably all women would agree with me. This is most likely down to it being alcohol free, which I tend not to be able to find many alcohol free roll-ons, so I have to put up with being stung or waiting ages to apply the roll-on for the stinging to not be as intense, both of which I shouldn't have to do, so I love the fact that it doesn't sting. The deodorant is clear and to look at your underarms, you can see them become very wet with the deodorant. I know roll-ons take a minute to dry off, but this seems to take a lot longer to dry, which feels uncomfortable when you put your arms down as you feel sweaty. A roll-on to stop sweating which makes you feel sweaty! It does dry off, but it is uncomfortable when putting on your clothes afterwards as I find the underarms of my clothes get a little bit wet, so now I don't only feel like I'm sweating, but I look it too! EFFECTIVENESS I work as a care assistant, which is a very physical role, meaning I get a bit sweaty sometimes, especially on warm days, plus, the care home is always stifling hot due to the older people having their radiators on full whack, so deodorant is an essential handbag item for me at work. I have to say, a busy day at work, no I do not see any effect with this deodorant, but maybe that's expecting too much, and at work, I do find sprays meant for sport use work better as they are made for 'sweatier' situations. On the other hand, for a usual day of comings and goings where I am not as physical, then yes it does work. My armpits aren't bone dry, but without the deodorant on they'd be clammier than what they are. On smelling my armpits to see if they smell clammy, they don't smell of BO, just the fresh scent of the deodorant, so I think the clamminess is sometimes just the roll-on as it does apply very wet, and your underarms don't dry easy when covered up with clothes. SO WOULD I RECOMMEND? This roll-on states to contain no perfume, no colours, be quick drying, kind to skin and last all day. It is fragrance free and so there's no perfume included, although it does have a fresh scent to it, but obviously without the use of perfumes. I'd say it is kind to skin as simple products usually are as they are very natural, and does last all day, where mostly I tend to reapply halfway through the day, not cause its needed just more out of habit and extra caution! The one thin g it isn't quick drying, it does take around ten minutes for your underarms to not feel sweaty, but it isn't a major issue. So, yes I would recommend for daily use, but not for demanding, hot and clammy days, as it doesn't work as well on these. I deduct stars for drying time! I got this from Home Bargains for about 60p, but I don't always see it in there. Poundland sell it and so do Superdrug for £1.
When it comes to deodorants, I do tend to chop and change according to the brands that I can find cheaply or on promotion, although I avoid any 'value' type ranges as I don't have the confidence in their ability to keep me feeling and smelling fresh. I spotted this Simple deodorant for just 99p in my local Home Bargains store and thought it was a bargain to find a well known brand for such a low price. I've tried many different Simple products over the years as I have dry, sensitive skin and have always found them to be effective products that fulfil their functions well without any unnecessary frills or extras - in essence, living up to their name tag. This Simple roll on deodorant bears the usual predominantly white and green basic colour scheme and, aside from the green lid, it would be quite easy to miss hidden amongst other more striking designs on the shelf. As I'd expect from Simple, the deodorant is totally unperfumed, colour free and boasts a skin soothing anti-irritant formula. Despite its gentle formulation, it is still recommended not to apply to sore or broken skin. Like most deodorants, the product information and ingredients list is hidden away beneath a sticker on the back. This is great in terms of minimising unnecessary packaging but no so great in terms of accessibility! Once I managed to prise the sticker apart, I discover a relatively short but nonetheless very chemical-sounding list of ingredients. Like all Simple products, this deodorant has not been tested on animals and all of the ingredients are suitable for vegans to use. As a roll on, this is very straightforward to apply with a decent sized ball at the top. Unlike many designs, the ball is positioned at the top (rather than resting in an upside down position.) Despite this, I find the deodorant flows really easily, if anything a little too easily as I find this deodorant leaves me feeling incredibly wet under the arms when first applied. This is certainly the wettest deodorant that I've ever used and I find it actually takes several minutes to dry thoroughly. As a mum to three kids, mornings can be a bit hectic and I've been known to get dressed before applying deodorant and then slap some on afterwards. That's not really a practical option with this deodorant as it's just so wet and I'd end up with unsightly wet patches under my armpits even before I leave the house! This really is one deodorant that warrants waiting about with arms outstretched for several minutes before getting dressed. The other most noticeable aspect of this deodorant is the really distinctive smell which is quite surprising for an unperfumed product. The scent is obviously no feminine perfume but the unmistakable aroma of pure alcohol. The smell of alcohol is incredibly strong when first applied but does wear off fairly quickly which is fortunate as I don't want to walk around stinking like an old wino! Throughout the day, I do find this fairly effective as an anti-perspirant deodorant and don't normally need to reapply during a typical working day. The only drawback to this formula is that the lack of perfume means that I am wholly reliant on the anti-perspirant qualities of this deodorant as there are no nice scents to mask any unpleasant body odours should I start to get a little too hot and bothered. For that reason, I do feel slightly less fresh and less confident about the lack of body odour as the day goes on. It may seem churlish to criticise an unperfumed product for its lack of scent but I do miss the reassurance of a feminine smelling aroma, particularly if I do start to feel sweaty and uncomfortable. Personally, I would be hesitant about using this during the height of Summer or for any particularly strenuous activity. The real benefit of the absence of any unnecessary perfumes and other irritants is that this is very kind to skin. I have experienced reactions to other brands of deodorants which resulted in rashes and sore skin under my arms. This deodorant leaves me totally free of any irritation, even when applied shortly after shaving. I will continue to buy and use this brand of deodorant, particularly while I'm able to obtain it cheaply but will probably switch back to a perfumed brand during the Summer months, simply for the extra reassurance that a scent provides. Nonetheless, I'm happy to recommend this as a gentle but effective anti-perspirant even though the initial excessive wetness and and pungent alcoholic aroma can be a little off-putting.
Over the years I have gradually moved from using roll-on anti-perspirants to spray ones which are dry in an instant. However my lungs do not like sprays of any kind as the particles in the air can start me coughing which means I have to spray and leave the room straightaway (bad news in the gym changing room where lots of people spray away with gusto) so I thought I would try a roll-on once again. As I like Simple face creams because they do not sit and shine on my skin, I thought I would try one of their roll ons as it's bottle said it dried very quickly. It does not, and I end up using my hair dryer to help dry it off - the alternative being to wipe some of it off with a tissue which leaves less deodorant to do the job. I have therefore consigned it to the recycling bin and returned to my 'quick spray and run' routine until I find a roll on anti-perspirant which does dry quickly. Shame really. Mary
Any fellow vegans will know how difficult it is to find a deodorant that contains no animal ingredients and is not tested on animals - and it is harder still to find a good one! I had previously tried others (such as Tom's of Maine) which gave me a rash and didn't really work all that effectively anyway. I had had great success with other Simple products, so I decided to try this. It doesn't irritate my skin, which is an achievement as I have very sensitive skin and tend to react badly to things such as deodorant. It smells fresh and comes in a neat little roll-on bottle. It is very effective as a deodorant. The one thing to watch out for is that the lid never seems to be closed tightly enough when I buy it, so if you're going to bring it with you on a trip, do ensure the lid is closed tightly! Unfortunately I had a few deodorant-in-suitcase issues before I discovered this. It contains no perfume or colour, and no animal-derived ingredients. I find it very soothing, and it doesn't even irritate after shaving. I would definitely recommend this deodorant to everyone, vegans and non-vegans alike. It dries relatively quickly and doesn't leave marks on clothes. A five star product in my opinion!
I chose this deodorant because I needed to find one that did not make me itch. I have sensitive skin and the majority of deodorants I result in my skin feeling really itchy. This deodorant is fragrance free. and from the moment I started using this one the itching stopped. If you shop around you can buy it quite cheaply. In Wilkinsons it is just under £2 but it can sometimes be found in the 99p store for 99p. Although it is great for sensitive skin it does have some disadvantages. I found that it took a long time to dry and sometimes it was as if the rollerball itself had become too wet. I also had a problem with a couple of items of clothing. Two navy coloured T-shirts that I wore ended up with white marks on them that did not wash out.It didn't happen to all my clothing but I would not expect it to happen to any to be honest. The T-shirts were ruined. I wouldn't really recommend this deodorant to anyone but it might be worth trying another product in the simple range if you have sensitive skin, I have had no problem with Simple in the past.
I tried this product a few months ago when I had forgotten to put mine in my bag. I needed something quick so I just decided to go with this... This deodorant comes in a small 50ml white bottle with a green screw top lid. These are the colours that represent Simple. It is quite plain but eye catching because it is so simple... I am not too keen on the smell of this deodorant. It is really strong and it almost smells of alcohol...It is not fragranced and puts me off. This is quick drying and kind to the skin. It is proven to be effective for everyday protection and care. For best results you are meant to roll on evenly and allow to dry fully before getting dressed. You do not use this on broken or sore skin as this will STING!!! It has no colour or perfume ans dermatologically tested. You can buy this from supermarkets, health stores etc. for no more than £1.50. Love *Quick and Easy *Cares for skin *Dries great *Low price Hate *Sticky at first *Smell I rate this 3/5 because it is not as soft as Dove and other good deodorants. It is too sticky and smelly.
Simple Anti - Perspirant Deodorant. Continuing with my reviews of products in the simple range, today it is the turn of their deodorant. I've been buying this product for the past couple of years. I tend to buy mine from Wilkinsons for under £2. Although this is not really expensive, there are plenty out there that are a lot cheaper. However I have always felt that it is worth paying a bit more for better quality and healthier products. The product itself comes in a 50ml plastic bottle - the bulk of which is white and the top green. This compliments the rest of its range. The design is very simple - no pictures, just the basic of information needed. On the back of the bottle there is further information on how to use the product and what exactly it contains. There appear to be few ingredients used (this is always a bonus for me), and it clearly states that it is suitable for use on sensitive skin. Again a must for me. As mentioned in my previous reviews, the main reason for buying products in the simple range is their attention to the ingredients used in their products. As with the other products, the deodorant contains no perfumes or colours. The liquid itself appears transparent, so the no colours bit seems about right. However there does seem to be a smell associated with it (nothing too strong or nasty), but never the less the no perfume bit seems dubious. The container is easy to open, and as of yet I've never experienced any leaks from them - either straight after use or whilst transporting it around. The actual ball roller itself also works quite well in that it rolls smoothly - even when dry. I also like the fact that you get a reasonable amount of deodorant on after just a couple of rolls - so it's fairly quick to use. Another bonus is that the deodorant seems to absorb straight into your skin, so you shouldn't find any annoying white marks on your clothes afterwards! For me the product is effective, being an anti - perspirant the effects seem to last that bit longer than standard deodorant. However for those with a serious sweating problem I wouldn't be able to comment on how useful they would find it. Overall I have enjoyed using this product up until now. I would happily continue to use it long term, but have now decided to try some of the more natural products available (after reading some reviews on here). If the natural products don't seem to do the job, then I'll certainly come back to my faithful simple.
I love simple products so thought I would try their deodorant as prefer using products which are perfume free. This deodorant was only 1.80 from wilkinsons and so thought I would try it. The packaging is a curved type roll on design, with green cap. The roll on glides easily and softens skin instantly when applied. The deodorant contains vitamin E to moisturise the skin, so your underarm skin does become much more smooth and soothes skin, especially after shaving. The smell of the deodorant is fresh and neutral and because there is no perfume to it, is is perfect for sensitive skin. The anti perspirant works at keeping your underarms smelling fresh, howvere it is not so good at keeping you dry. I found I got quite damp patches towards the end of my day and didnt really keep me dry at all. I can imagine if I have been exercising etc this anti perspirant would have failed quite miserbaly. So not as good as some of their products I have tried, and I wouldnt be buying this again as it doesnt really do the job.
Introduction ========== My usual deodorant didnt seem to be in the shops any more so I needed to find a new deodorant. I prefer unperfumed deodorant and this was the only one available in the shop so I bought it. The packaging =========== The deodorant is a roll-on and comes in a white bottle with a dark green lid. (It can help when youre trying to find it if you know what you are looking for.) The back label tells me that Simple products are 100% perfume and colour free with no unnecessary additives, and have active ingredients to care for the needs of even sensitive skin. It then goes on to say how wonderfully effective and quick drying it is. It also gives the address of their website (www.keep-life-simple.com) which seems to be a fairly reasonable site although I didnt spend a huge amount of time looking. The Aroma ======== The deodorant does have a kind of chemical alcohol smell if you smell it (a bit like the sterilising wipes you have for vaccinations) but under normal use, I have never noticed it. Alcohol is the second ingredient after water and is probably there to help it to dry quickly. Using the deodorant =============== The deodorant goes on just like any other roll on deodorant. Although it says it is quick drying, it does not seem to be any better than other roll ons but as this is not what it markets itself on, I dont really think it is a con on that point. So does it work then? ================ Unfortunately this deodorant does not seem to work for me. Even though it is the middle of winter, I got huge sweat marks on my tops like the kind you normally get when its extraordinarily hot in the middle of summer. Fortunately, because it is winter, these were hidden by jumpers so not too embarrassing although I did once change a top three hours after getting dressed as it was just too wet. Any good points? ============= Although this deodorant did not work for me, unlike some other deodorants, it did not irritate my skin or make me itch in any way. Being designed for sensitive skin seems to be its main selling point and on this point I was entirely satisfied. Any other problems? =============== Unfortunately, there must be something in the deodorant in which an element of purple dye is soluble. I say this because I have an almost new purple top and a much older purple blouse and the dye has run so they both now look like I have sweated blue/black ink from my armpits onto them. There is an address on the bottle so I intend to write to the manufacturer about this and will post an update when I receive a response. Conclusion ======== This deodorant did not work for me, however as it did not irritate my skin, it could be worth trying out if you have sensitive skin as different deodorants work better for different people. If you do use it, I would warn you not to use it when wearing purple tops as the dye may run.
