Advantages: Works!
Disadvantages: Expensive, strange dusty smell
So, I walked into my local Boots with the intention of getting my usual deoderant when I spied this on the bottom shelf. It claimed to be a '48h anti-perspirant deoderant' which has 'scientifically proven wetness protection'. So, with these promises I thought I would give it a try.
.::The product::.
The product is a 'roll-on' deoderant cream that claims to contain three important components:
- The maximum wetness protection ever from Sure
- Encapsulated odour fighting technology
- Skin moisturising ingredient
All these come together to form a deoderant which claims to stay on for 48 hours, even after showering! Sure also say that this is a 'clean, fresh scent'.The product comes in a box, which is very unusual for deoderant so you know it's serious! The front of the box has silver lines with a bit of light bluey-grey shading, the rest of the box is white (apart from the writing) so it instantly gives the idea of cleanliness. On one side of the box are directions for use of the product and on the other side is an outline of the actual product within the container. On the back, you have the promises from Sure and the ingredients which are;
Clyclomethicone, Aluminium Zirconium, Tetrachlorohydrex GLY, Dimethicone, Dimethicone Crosspolymer, Microcrystalline Wax, Tocopherol, C18-36 Acid Triglyceride, Silica, Corn Starch Modified, Mannitol, Parfum, BT, Citric Acid, Sodium Ascorbate, Calcium Disodium EDTA, Alpha-Isomethyl Ionone, Benzyl Alcohol, Benzyl Benzoate, Benzyl Salicylate, Butylphenyl Methylpropional, Citronellol, Coumarin, Hexyl Cinnamal, Limonene, Linalool.
Inside the box is the product and an instruction leaflet (now you really know it's a serious product!).
.::Using the product::.
First you take off the lid and you have to turn the dial at the bottom anti-clockwise for, what feels like, ever until the cream starts to come out the holes in the applicator at the top. You then just wipe it on your underarms, easy peasy!
It's of a creamy consistency, but spreads quite easy on the skin. It also soaks into your skin well and doesn't leave any residue.
To go into more detail about applying it, Sure say that you should apply it at night as your body temperature is lowest then which makes it more receptive to the deoderant. The recommended number of clicks for each underarm is 2 clicks, which I think is enough.
It's pretty straight-forward to use...but does it work?
.::My experience of the product!::.
I'm not a Sweaty Betty or anything, but I do get the odd sweaty day especially during Winter when you're going from extreme cold outside to absolutely roasting heat inside at university all day. I have found that deoderant works to a certain extent, by the end of the day there is a certain whiff that wasn't there earlier on but I never have big sweat patches nor do I suffer from BO.
I'm one of these people who never read the instructions so I didn't realise it was better to apply at night. But I did apply it in the evening, so I hope it had a similar effect to what was wanted by Sure. In my opinion, the effect was very much what I wanted.
At first, I was a bit wary as I felt quite moist under my arms after applying. But I think it was just drying it. It doesn't take too long to dry in but it can leave white marks on your clothes so be careful when wearing dark colours. If you do get some on your clothes, just rub it with another bit of the same piece of clothing.
I then went out for a few hours, still smelling of the deoderant (which I'll talk about later) and then went to my bed. The following morning, I still didn't smell any of those nasty scents that seem to come from your underarms. It was quite surprising! I decided not to apply any after I had a shower to see if it did it's job and to my pleasure, I'm still not sweating and I'm smelling of the deoderant!
This stuff actually works!
I mentioned the smell of the deoderant briefly, saying that Sure described it as clean, fresh scent. I totally disagree with this. To me, it smells really stale and musty and totally unpleasant. When I went out, I kept smelling this strange scent and I thought it was my t-shirt, maybe it had been lying in my drawers too long? I hadn't worn it in a while...But then I realised it was the deoderant and I actually started feeling really self-conscious, more than I would've been if I had been sweating. I would've liked it to be in maybe a more floral scent. I decided just to put a body spray over the top of this, but the scent still seemed to seep through - it's really strong!
The product also says it has a skin-moisturising ingredient which I think works! My underarms feel softer and smoother and don't tend to get as irritated when I shave.
Another thing to point out is that the deoderant doesn't sting at all when you put it on post-shave. I've also not been irritated by it, which is good as some deoderants do tend to make me itch. I think those with sensitive skin should be careful with this product as it is a strong product and could cause some irritation to the skin.
.::Availability and Price::.
As I said before, this product is available Boots for the price of £4.99 for only 45ml, this is a massive £11.09 per 100ml which is quite extortionate for a deoderant, but I think because it works so well it doesn't seem to bad.
I've also found this product in Tesco for the slightly cheaper price of £4.98 and also in Asda for an even cheaper price of only £4.87. They're all around the £5 mark though, so it is still a lot more expensive than your usual deoderant.
For the men out there, there is also a Sure Maximum Protection available for men.
.::Overall::.
I think it is a good product and it works a lot better than many other deoderants, it would be lovely if all deoderants did the same job this does - like they're meant to! I think the price is a big put off for people, especially those (like me) who tend to go for whatever deoderants are on offer.
The smell is also a big put-off for me, it's not extremely unpleasant. It does feel as though you smell like you've sat in a dusty room all afternoon. I felt extremely self-conscious wearing it.
It's great to find a product that actually works and I think it would be useful for those who do suffer from heavy perspiration. I hope they bring out a wider range of scents that would appeal more to me.
Summary: Finally, a deoderant that actually does what it says!
