Why a Cream?
I first came across this product a few years ago. I've never been terribly keen on aerosol products - I don't think my aim is very accurate and there seems to be spray going in all directions! At that time I was setting off for work before 7 in the morning, before anyone else in the household was stirring. I needed to be quiet and quick in the bathroom. I found roll-on deodorants took too long to dry, especially in winter when it was too cold to hang around as the heating had only just come on at that hour! I tried those solid sticks but found them a bit hard. A cream therefore seemed ideal and this was the first one I tried. I don't think it's changed significantly in any respect in the intervening time. I can't recall how much I paid for it originally. Like many things it has risen in price recently, and now I can rarely find it for less than £2 in Tesco; it is rarely on special offer, either!
The Packaging and Its Information
This antiperspirant/deodorant comes as a plastic cylinder approximately 11 cm long, with a domed top which makes it look a bit like an elongated white mushroom. On the front the basic, fundamental information is displayed - the logo at the top, then other information such as 24 hour protection, anti-perspirant deodorant, Proderma, 0% alcohol. On the reverse there is more detailed information, including the expected ingredients information, where to address questions or comments [part of the Unilever Group], directions for use, including 'do not apply to irritated or damaged skin', and again the reference to Proderma, which is not defined further than 'a skin caring complex which can help to protect the underarm skin', although it is trademarked. A symbol indicates that the product should be used within 24 months, and the pack is recyclable. It contains 50ml cream.
What Is It Like To Use?
There is a twist-up mechanism in the base, with arrows indicating the direction to twist. With a new pack you might need to twist a few times before the cream appears through the hole in the centre of the top. A small peel-off sticker covers this hole - about 5mm in diameter - on a new pack. The tube is easy to hold and manipulate, and the convex shape of the top means it's easy to apply to the underarm area. The cream itself is white in colour, mildly scented but difficult to describe - vaguely soapy with a hint of baby powder? For me it's very pleasant and not obtrusive. I don't think any woman wants her deodorant to clash with her perfume!
I find I only need to use a small amount of cream per arm - probably about 5mm. The top of the cylinder is effective at spreading it across the required area. Any resulting feeling of dampness is not long-lived so it must live up to its claim to dry quickly. I am able to use it immediately after shaving with no adverse effects. I also find that it is very effective at keeping me dry and odour free for the 24 hours claimed. Another advantage is that I have never noticed any residue or marks on my clothing when I have used this.
Conclusions and Additional Information
There is another fragrance - Aloe Fresh 'with the added reassurance of aloe' available. I'm sure I have tried it in the past but I haven't been able to find it locally in recent times.
I'm not often faithful to products unless there's a very good reason. I did stop using this for a while, when the price went up quite sharply, but I found myself returning to it because it is so easy and effective to use. I do think it lasts a long time, perhaps longer than the cheaper roll-ons. I've decided that, for me, it's a price worth paying - unless I find something else that looks worth trying!
Website:
http://www.vaseline.co.uk - I checked this out to see if I could discover more about Proderma. I was not impressed - there was little information and in fact I wondered if the site was complete.
I was unable to locate the product on any Unilever sites, despite the customer being referred to www.unilever.com on the packaging.
5 stars from me
Thank you for reading my review. It may be found on other sites.
Summary: A cream that dries quickly and keeps me dry all day!
