American Apparel Store

I have been to two American Apparels in the UK - the AA on Oxford Street, and the AA in Cabot Circus, Bristol. I browsed the products on Oxford Street but actually made a purchase at Cabot Circus, so my review will be based on that. Despite visiting Bristol often, we had never been to the 'new' Cabot Circus, and only made our first trip this past month. I had been eyeing a number of AA products on the website - the fleece zip hoodie, and the pleated school girl skirt - so I decided to go in and finally try them on and see if they were actually worth the extra money. An American Apparel store opened in Bristol Cabot Circus almost a year ago, and I think I was one of the very first customers. I have seen the store in other cities, such as London, and am aware of the status the store carries abroad in the US. The shop itself is very clean and modern looking, with lovely large windows at the front, dotted with the colourful designs available inside. PROFILE American Apparel is a "sweatshop-free" retailer that has long been very successful in the US and now has branches open worldwide. Their marketing has become very well known in the advertising world- showing plain models wearing simple garments, in average location but with very suggestive poses (think a mix of Bennetton and Sisley ads you may have seen). American Apparel is a very unique store. You may love it, you may hate it, you may wear only AA, you may have one item, but you definitely won't forget it! This shop is all about fashionable basics. There was a gap in the market for really tight 'hipster' clothes- you don't need patterns and embellishments to look hot! You can really make these clothes your own. The cuts and colours are really considered. They don't just churn out fast fashion pieces, they produce line that they aim to produce for a long length of time. American Apparel have many stores, usually in busy highstreets in cities such as London. The clientele are generally quirky, indie students. However they have a wide fan base and versatile products. The clothes are split into 'men,' 'women,' and 'unisex.' I find it odd that you may see a man and a woman in the same clothes, but the designs are lovely and suit both men and women.
