Advantages: Quality clothing in cool colours and styles
Disadvantages: It's everywhere at the moment and is quite expensive too.
At the moment Jack Wills seems to be one of the key brands of choice amongst public schools, the young upper-middle classes and anyone who aspires to them. The brand defines itself as University Outfitters and is particularly well known for its hoodies and tracksuits bearing some form of logo associated with the company.
There are several shops around the country, a website and a catalogue, but if you decide to go to a shop be careful to avoid school holidays as the shops are generally quite small and demand for the clothes very high- during the summer there was a queue outside the shop in Salcombe! The prices of the clothes range from about £12 for a pair of woollen socks to sometimes around £200 for a coat, with their hoodies costing about £60. The quality of the clothes is second to none and the colours of the garments have a slightly vintage tone to them that I love. If the prices seem a little steep then try shopping in their very good sales when they are more reasonable or visit one of their outlet stores (there's one in Gunwarf Quays in Portsmouth) where a pair of tracksuits cost £34.
Although their clothing can be very nice you have to be careful not to wear too much if you want to look like you can think for yourself and not follow the crowd so much. If you like the style, but not the brand's ubiquity at the moment, try shopping at Hollister (there's a shop in the Westfield shopping centre in London) where the style is similar but it's less expensive and has yet to really establish itself in the UK. Over the past few years, as the Jack Will's popularity has increased, the prices have crept up and I'm not entirely convinced that the designs are quite as good as they used to be.
Summary: A really nice brand but you do risk looking the same as everyone else
