Jack Wills: for the rich and stupid
Member Name: stephap
Advantages: mostly quality made, good range of sale clothing, tops are good for tall people
I first discovered Jack Wills upon arrival as a student at Durham University 3 years ago. My first opinions of the brand were not good and to be honest, they haven't changed much over time. Jack Wills University Outfitters is targeted towards students, obviously, and seems to be popular with the upper middle classes. Jack Wills wearers can often be seen sporting Ugg boots, pashminas, flip flops (in winter), shorts and denim mini skirts(in winter) and big blonde 'I've just rolled out of bed' hair, they are commonly referred to as 'rahs'.
The Jack Wills logo looks something like a chicken sporting a top hat and walking stick and the brand tag line is 'Fabulously British', which is a big deception as the labels in all my JW clothing says made in China. A feature of Jack Wills clothing is the contrast colours, in shirts and polos the logo is a contrast colour and there are contrast line in the cuffs and colour which is conducive to accessorizing.
The first item of clothing I bought from JW was a flannel shirt. I purchased it online from JackWills.com in the clearance after xmas '09, costing me £30 (reduced from £69) + £4 postage and took over a week for delivery. What attracted me to this item? The shirt feels like it is made of quality material and so far it is good as new, which I would expect given the price. The proportion are generous, given that I am a 5'10 'athletic build', it fits well and the sleeves are long.
Soon after, I was invited to the JW clearance store, jackwillsoutlet.com, much to the annoyance of some of my friends who are still waiting for an invite, this store stocks clearance items all year round, most of which are better than half price. This combined with the fact that they regularly send me the JW handbook has kept an interest in the brand.
My second purchase again came from the main online store, in the clearance Aug '10. I bought a polo shirt reduced to £19 from £49 a classic gingham shirt £24 from £59, lounge boxers £14 from £19 and pants £9.50 from £12. Again these all fit perfectly with my 'soft butch' style and if I upset a few rahs by wearing their clothing even better.
There's a part of me that is rather disgusted that I paid £9.50 for a pants but it's a treat for my birthday so why not? and they look hot :) They have a white strip across the top with Jack wills written on, like Calvin Klein underwear, which is what attracted me.
Jack Wills also stocks, sweatpants, hoodies, jackets, shoes, jeans, t-shirts, dresses, jumpers, henleys, shorts, skirts, vests, gilets, bags, glasses, underwear, fragrance and homewares, which if purchased at full price for the average person, are bankrupting. The sweatpants, hoodies and t-shirts, tend to have Jack Wills, Wills, JW etc. written on them in large font which is perfect for those who just want to be seen in the brand.
Summary: rah heaven
