Advantages: Great choice of unusual, hard to find items

Disadvantages: Too dear!

As a Sheffielder born and bred, I don't like having to travel out of the town centre for my shopping - and surprisingly, many things which you may have wrongly assumed were only available for purchase online, or in kitsch urban London boutiques, are available right here in the city of steel. I'm most surprised to be able to review shops on this site, as I originally looked to write about its namesake's film/soundtrack, but then this store is as equally strange and bizarre.

Rocky Horrors stocks the kind of gothic apparel you wouldn't wish your mum to see, and I'm reminded of the time my dad accidentally hit his head on a strap-on... implement... hanging from the ceiling. These include alternative clothing and accessories, such as Omen brand, fetishist outfits too, jewellery, bags & badges and other miscellany. Unfortunately it is rather small, and this does limit how long you can spend browsing without being jostled out of the shop by some emo kid, and means that you may miss objects at first view. So look closely.

My main qualm with the store, as with many of the same kind on our very own Division Street (for example, shops with the Forum) is the inflated price of many items. Though generally speaking I would rather not be trawling through endless online auction pages, forking out for postage and packing and knowing the risk that my item may never arrive - as well as how much I like to support my city's ventures - these all turn out cheaper than the above. Why they have to charge so much in this shop, for even the simplest things like studs and patches, I'll never know.

I'm not saying steer clear - far from it. In fact, it's well-stocked and served by very friendly staff (if bleached white faces, black lips and face piercings don't scare you.) Only, make sure you visit the cash machine first. High quality items yes, with matching high prices.

Summary: What do you buy the man who can afford anything? Something from Rocky Horrors.
