Advantages: Lovely images, speed, flexibility, hey it's a standard
Disadvantages: price
The interface with 3D studio MAX can be a little daunting but certainly provides everything you're going to need within easy reach of a few mouse clicks. The interface is exactly as you'd expect, top, bottom, side and camera views with a multitude of palettes with various tools for all sorts of weird object manipulation. File support is good here, though it could easily be better with numerous problems encountered by myself when porting files and plugins from earlier versions. The interface hasn't changed so very much since the last version but is backed with better speed and a nicer general 'feel' when working. If there's one criticism of this app I'd give it the price. It's simply too far out of reach for most people who would like to use it. Having said that you're getting loads for your money and it certainly produces lovely, if a little lifeless images. Add, however, a good 'pod pluging like character studio and your images will come to life in full skeletal glory.
