AA AtoB Britain journey Planner 1999

If like me, you have very little hard disk space then this is the perfect route planning utility for you.
AtoB is a small program, which takes up only 3.3MB, compared to the minimum of 16MB (full installation of 40mb) needed for the AA’s main route planner, Milemaster Britain.

AtoB has a list of place names that can be selected, which includes over 15,000 towns, villages, road junctions, places of interest, different holiday parks and even a few pubs along the way. I have used A to B on many occasions including travelling from Bognor Regis to Inverness and I have found it to be spot on every time. The directions are clearly laid out and easy to follow.

Even though AtoB is small it has a few decent features. As well as giving you the mileage it will work out an estimated time for your journey, worked out by the average speed of the different types of roads used. I personally have found these times to be on the generous side but friends have found them to be a bit tight (must be my F1 driving style). It can also work out the cost of the journey once you fill in how much it costs you to travel per mile. If you want to visit somewhere en route you can type in the place you want to go into the “via” box and AtoB will work out the best diversion to it and then but you back onto the route for the main journey.

The one thing that is missing is maps. But as well as having limited hard disk space my computer is a puny 333mhz and maps take quite a long time to load. Which is what happened when I used AA Milemaster and other map based programmes in the past. But as a said earlier the directions are quite clear and you can always check your road map if you need to.

Have another welcome from me too ;-) Nice op, but a bit of info on how to use it - i.e. descriptions of how you use it/ instructions/ tips etc would make it VU!
