Ad-aware is a great product by Lavasoft that I happened to stumble upon one day. At first I was unsure what it would be like, but it actually is rather great. Teamed with my anti-virus (AVG), I find that this product is really effective.

It's a software that finds potentially harmful spyware and allows you to get rid of it from your computer.
It scans your computer and there are three different type of scans you can carry out. These are smart scan (which just scans the main areas of your computer and is really quick!).. a full scan (that checks the whole computer, including all the local drives of your computer) and then there's a custom scan (a scan you can set to your own requirements). You can set scans with the scheduler, which means that you can choose when you want your scan to run and how, according to your needs and usage.

It's free and in my opinion, it's a must have for heavy internet users!
