Having used PageMill 2.0 & later 3.0 for quite some time, and getting my two sites (fantasyf1.org.uk & motorlinks.co.uk) to a decent size and number of visitors, GoLive 4.0 was recommended to me as a complete site management package. I deliberately spent a few weeks getting familiarised with it, and as I am used to the Adobe way of doing things, that was plenty of time. The main addvantages are that you can layout a new site as a tree structure, then add the html later. Adding java or any other extra technology is also made simple, and it is just making the time to learn the package thoroughly, and beleive me it will pay off. **UPDATE** I ... Trying to accomplish anything took twice as long as it should. GoLive! packs far too many features into the default window which in turn causes it to use too much RAM. I was able to keep maybe one other program open while using GoLive! Not good when I need to run more than 1 program. On the otherhand, closing the extra features leaves the user without enough tools to get the job done. In contrast, Dreamweaver 3.0 is streamlined so the essential tools are on a small task bar and other tools can be added at the user's convenience. Skip GoLive! and pick up Dreamweaver instead. ... GoLive 4.0 is not the first Adobe web design package - they had already released a few years ago PageMill 2.0 and 3.0 - but it is for sure the most outstanding one if you are in the business and if you are on Macinstosh! What a leap!!! GoLive is actually the name of the company that Adobe bought over, and they were publishing GoLive 4.0 ancestors as Cyberstudio - who does not know it on Mac?! GoLive 4.0 was then made available on PC and this was a good move as well, as it has become the closest competitor to Dreamweaver 3.0 - if you are used to Adobe software, go for this one as the tool bar and menu are very straightforward compared to Macromedia ... For me this product was very hard to get on with. When i looked at its features i was impressed, yet when i got to actually using it found the help files very difficult. From a dumb persons view youd have no chance. Secondly I hate the way it makes loads of file extension to open with it. The most annoying was HTML, and HTM, so when I doube click on them, they dont open in my faithful IE but up pops GoLive and starts trying to edit them. Mostly because I use Dreamwever and Golive doesnt like the way the code is structured, so it changes it. Saying this it does have a lot of features that are handy. Includeing asp, php, ssi coding suport as well as the standard html, js, ... Read the complete review
