The Industry standard image manipulation package steps up a gear with release 5.5 and the inclusion of Adobe's ImageReady - a tool dedicated to the creation of graphics which are web-ready.
With every release Photoshop goes from strength to strength and with functions like the history list, user-definable actions and the ability add third-party plug-ins there's nothing that touch it.

The range of tools available is truly superb and it's well within the capabilities to be producing appreciable results within a matter of hours of picking it up.

However, to get the best out of Photoshop required patience and it's then, and only then, that the full power of this excellent tool can be realised. I wouldn't use anything else.
