Advantages: None

Disadvantages: Not recommended for network use

I work for a small graphic design company, and we have used Photoshop since version 2.5. We have recently upgraded to version 6.0, and upon first running it realised something was very wrong. There was a delay of around three seconds between clicking on a tool or button and the action commencing. It made me feel as though our Pentium III 800MHz had been sneakily replaced by an old 486. Very odd. I made sure nothing else was running, defragmented the hard drive, and reinstalled Photoshop 6.0, Still the same timelag between click and action.

After not being able to find any help on the Adobe website I gave up on Photoshop 6.0 in disgust at Adobe releasing a piece of software with a bug like this present and reverted to Version 5.5.

HOWEVER - there is a solution, which I got from Adobe's helpline. Simply hold down CTRL-ALT-SHIFT as Photoshop starts, and this resets its configuration data. Worked a treat, and I was happy. That is, until I read the email on this problem they sent me. It advises against acessing files over a network, suggesting instead that you copy them to a local drive on your machine. Now IMHO this is a bit useless with a supposedly professional piece of software. We (like a lot of other companies, I suppose) like to store our files on a server and access them from there. It defeats the purpose of having our network if we're to haul all the files we're working with on to our machines. I'd like to hear about other peoples' experiences with this software.

Oh dear... you have just completely put me off the idea of splashing out on Photoshop 6. You sound completely wee'd off - to put it mildly. I don't get it though, why did adobe try and make something better which was already the best anyway? The moral of the story: If it an't broken, don't fix it!
