Advantages: Simple to use, Excellent Filters, Produces Quality
Disadvantages: Requires a good computer system
Six years ago I found myself teaching IT to students with Learning and Behaviour problems. Part of the course is computer art and design. Luckily for me, my brother is a graphics designer and highly recommended Adobe Photoshop. I never thought that a program that many think is SO complicated, could be used efficiently and effectively by 12 year olds and over! With the new budget this year I have introduced Photoshop 6. Although it carries a big price tag, with educational discount it becomes a good price, one I definitely do not mind paying for the results that it produces. I am assuming that those reading this opinion will have some idea about Photoshop, so I will be outlining what I have found so useful in this new addition. Firstly, as always with Photoshop, the quality of picture and graphic that can be created is second to non. The precision to be obtained in Photoshop 6 has increased through the introduction of the magnetic Lasso Tool. Previously you have to carefully and steadily draw around an area. This requires patience, something that most students do not have! The magnetic lasso tool saves this painstaking process. You click your mouse, hold down the button and roughly go round the area you need to. The lasso latches on to the shape! Simple. Photoshop 6 has introduced vector shapes, something that students are always wanting. The cloning feature has also been enhanced, allowing you to fill with pre set patterns and textures. This piece of software encourages brilliance in all, whether you have an artistic flare or not. Afterall, if students with learning and behaviour problems can use this program and produce quality results, I'm sure you can!
