In my exploits at work as a developer I have used any amount of software. More recently I went on a bit of a dig for decent HTML editing software and Active Server Pages editors. The result is the following opinion on Homesite by Allaire. My opinion comes from personal experience and if you follow my logic you will see why I ended up with this editor as opposed to any other (at this time)… What I wanted and Why ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ I was moving away from Visual Basic and client/server development at work. The idea is to develop quick solutions that can be delivered by the Intranet. The remit (from my point of view) was an editor that was really ... Read the complete review

Allaire's HomeSite has been my favourite tool for Web page authoring for the past few years. Even after Microsoft released FrontPage 2000, and Macromedia released its Dreamweaver 3.0, I find that these two softwares lack the freedom, control and help HomeSite provides to authors. Having used Notepad and HotDog Pro for HTML authoring, I find that sometimes you need thorough understanding of the underlying HTML of a page to be able to make easy modifications to it. HomeSite's simple text-based HTML editing environment comes with syntax checking and highlighting facilities. The syntax checking utility runs in the background as you type your HTML and it ... Allaire's HomeSite is probably one of the premiere HTML editors out on the market, one of the most competitive priced ones - and it's just brilliant overall! HomeSite retails for a number of prices under £100, depending on whether you're a new user or an upgrader, and want a packaged product or not. And it's also not an WYSIWYG one, meaning that it's not as visual as the more higher priced packages, but that doesn't mean that it's any harder to get to grips with as it has a host of features, including an in-built page site browser, extensive code tools (which you can add to) a very intuitive interface, and lots of ways you customise it, to ... This is the professional tool for building and maintaining a web site. It is complex to use and not for web site learners or the computer illiterate, but the features offered are very through. The list of sites produced using this package is no less than impressive while the package itself is defiantly not expensive when you consider the alternatives and the solution that can be achieved by taking the HomeSite route. If you or your company realises the opportunity of e-commerce the package can be upgraded by installing Catalogue on top, giving a full business solution. Having recently bought the package I have been impressed, although I have not yet published my results. ... Read the complete review

I've been working as a web developer for a few years now and have used a fair few html editing tools in my time but none of them compare to HomeSite. It is no surprise to me that pretty much all the other web developers I know use HomeSite too. I learned to code using WordPad (ie by hand) and have never much liked WYSIWYG editors as they write pretty nasty code ... though they are improving. HomeSite makes the process of handcoding so much quicker as it has all sorts of shortcuts and options to finish off your code as you write it (eg by putting in the closing tags for you or creating complex tables using a visual matrix wizard). If you are able to code ... Read the complete review
