Disadvantages: You have to tell it which ads to get rid of
Remember the annoying Nokia popups which sprouted on Dooyoo the other week? This is a clever, free utility which gets rid of things like that.
POW! is an amazing little program – and little it is, it only takes a few minutes to download. I don’t usually trust free programs like this, I always think they must be gathering all sorts of information from my system while they work. This one seems to be OK though.
It is a simple utility which is free to download from Analogx.com (http://www.analogx.com/contents/download/network/ pow.htm). As soon as a popup you don’t want opens, POW! closes it for you. It keeps a record of how many it has got rid of – you will be surprised at the amount once you have been using it for a while.

I haven’t found any other disadvantages yet, but I have only been using it half-an-hour!
USING IT
Go to the site and click download, when it is done click the START button, then PROGRAMS and it should be listed at the bottom of the list as AnalogX. Then select POW! This will put it into the little tray on the bottom right of your screen, next to the time. It is a small yellow starburst icon.
Right-click on it and select ADD/DELETE POPUP. Now you’re in business. It will give you a list of windows that will automatically be closed by POW! when spotted. Mine included :

In the bottom half of the window is a list of windows that you already have open. Mine included a couple of Dooyoo pages, my email program and a couple of popups.
If you double-click on the offending ones in the bottom win
dow they will move to the top window and the popups will close automatically. Click DONE and you’re – er. Done.
After that, every time one of those popups opens POW! will recognise it as an offender and close it. Actually I love just opening pages where I know popups are going to appear and then watching them get killed by POW! It has become a new game.
Now and then you will get a popup that doesn’t disappear. That is because POW! hasn’t recognised it as an offender yet. Just go through the ADD/DELETE POPUP routine again and it will be added to your list.
I was more than a little interested in the site which is giving this program away out of the kindness of their hearts. I’ve done a search on it but I’m still not sure what they’re up to! Here’s a quote from their site :

Hmm. Sounds like a very clever hacker-type person who spent their childhood at the computer instead of in English/grammar classes. Well whatever. Whoever he/she is, I’m sure all Dooyooers are very grateful to him/her. Cheers Anny.
