Advantages: Good for Macintosh files
Disadvantages: Bad as it takes over the computer.
Quicktime is a piece of Audio and video viewing software that was developed by Apple Computers several years ago. While Apple computers have often been incompatible with PC's, their Quicktime application is able to be used by machines the world over. It is freely available from their website: http://www.apple.com/quicktime/ As a small download. All it is though is a plug-in that you need to view several types of movie. The latest version for download is 5.0.1. But it is not only available for desktop application. you can now have it installed on your servers to provide streaming video to people throughout the world. The size of the download differs depending on what version of Quicktime you want. The basic version is 4.2 Mb which takes about 20 minutes over a standard 56.6kbps modem. The Standard Version is 7.2 Meg and takes about 35 minutes. Thats a long time ot wait when you think most computers come with Mediaplayer free and you dont have to download them. What it does allow you to view is many movie trailers and films that are offered on the apple website. Although there are movies on other websites to view with quicktime, you wont come across the format very often. What is a nuisance though is Quicktime trying to take over the computer. When you install it, it gives you a choice over what files you want to associate with it. DONT associate Jpegs or Gifs DONT associate Windows movies such as AVI's or MPEGS. Just associate the Macintosh files. Otherwise it wants to launch when you do anything! Its quite slow to launch and only useful for embedded movies. So what can you do with it? Well, watch movies that are in Macintosh format. Not very often you will hav eto do this. Only some sites have movies in this format. Can I upgrade it? Yes you can. To Quick time Pro 5. This gives you a little bit more functionality over viewing and c
reating movies but not really worth the upgrade. If you want a good movie viewing tool, its better to go for Windows Media PLayer 7 or above. This offers superb quality with much more functionality.
