Advantages: Easy to use, record music through your speakers, record your own audio, edit the audio.

Disadvantages: May take a while to figure out how to use it effectively.

Audacity is a free program that can be downloaded. It is a very useful tools for editing music. You can change the tempo easily although this does change the sound of the song slightly but not enough to make that much of a difference. You can also cut out parts of songs that you do not want in there and this allows you to cut down songs so that you can have your favourite part as an alert on your computer or mobile phone.

You can import all different audio files, such as: wav, mp3, wma etc. Then once you have imported your audio you can do all manner of things with it. You can easily layer different tracks over the top of an already existing one which makes it easy to add your own guitar part into a song to add to it or too simply check if you are playing in time.

Not only can you edit music that you have already got on your computer you can use audacity to record music straight from your speakers before it even gets to your ears so you get the exact quality that you are hearing without any annoying delays or mic distortion. If you are thinking that this is illegal then i can tell you that it is not as all computers made by microsoft come with this ability and it is called sound recoreder and you can do a search on it if you like but this allows you to record music straight from your computer before it even goes through your speakers.

I would recommend downloading audacity if you need to record any guitar parts or such like. Be aware though that if you are going to record two guitar pieces that there is a slight delay in audacity playing the piece and recording another which means that you could easily end up with two pieces of music about a second behind each other and this can get quite annoying. (I am speaking from personal experience.)

Overall audacity is a very good program that i have used for a very long time and will continue to use for much longer. If you needsoftware that can do all manner of things with music then this really is the software for you and it is even better because it is completely FREE!
