Audio and Music Software in general ... is an important skill for musicians - to listen to a song, make useful notes and figure out how to play it. Having recently joined a couple of bands, I've had a stack of tunes, many of them unfamiliar, for which I've had to pick up the bass line and so I had a look for computer-based tools to assist me. What I found was Transcribe! (http://www.seventhstring.demon.co.uk/xscribe/), a shareware package designed to assist with this process. Syntrillium Cool Edit Pro ... Edit Pro has to be the number 1 music software package for what it's designed for. It won't give you MIDI sequencing and has very limited video support, but it does provide a powerful solution to audio editing and multitracking. Working in a radio station, I use CEP all the time in a production environment. This is where I think that CEP excels over everything else. Speed id the name of the game and all basic tasks are simple to achieve and not time consuming. If you partner this program with a reasonably fast computer, you have a killer package that will do all you need it to do.
