AVG AntiVirus Free EditionNewest Review: ... very unobtrusive and minds its own business for most of the time. It updates itself when available automatically (although you can stop this if you want) and runs a scheduled scan however frequently you want it to. When it find anything suspicious it either cures it or puts it into quarantine to protect the computer. The speed of the scan is not stunning but I guess this is down to the hardware more than the program. The user interface is easy to use and very little knowledge is needed to let it get on with what it does and manual scans and updates can be started easily from the home page. Overall I would recommend this program to whoever... more |

I have used AVG for the past couple of years and have not had a virus or spyware in that time. That may be a coincidence but it is good to know that it is there. AVG Antivirus Free Edition I have used Norton antivirus and most recently Mc Afee in the past. I got the McAfee free for the first year when I took out my sky package. The year is just about up and I didn't fancy the prospect of forking out for another expensive replacement. I had found McAfee to be decent enough it was better than Norton but both definitely slowed the computer down and if you were running a scan you could do nothing else with the computer whilst the scan round. I began looking around fro alternatives and found the free edition of AVG and after reading a few reviews I decided to give it a go. How to get the AVG free ... Read the complete review

I have had this piece of software on my computer for over a year now. Over that past year i have had quite a few major viruses but thanks to this software i managed to get rid of them. Although the original AVG Anti-virus searches for more things like credit card scams the original comes with quite a big price tag considering that you can get the main searches for free. On the AVG Anti-Virus software the free version you have 3 tabs on your left hand side the first one is overview: which basically tells you if you have any viruses and if you have any warnings which i get around 30 a day, the second tab is update: If you become a regular user every day you will ... I've had AVG installed on all the computers I've used on the internet for about 5 years, and I wouldn't use anything else. It's so simple to use and yet seems to detect viruses quick enough to stop me getting one on my pc. AVG just seems to work on every computer I put it on, without any problems, no matter what version of windows it just does what its designed for- protects the computer. I think the installation process is quick and easy; in a few steps you can install AVG and configure it to update itself , scan your emails (I use Outlook Express) and also get it to scan any document opened in Microsoft Office. The email scanning is particularly useful, as ... Read the complete review

Grisoft's AVG Antivirus Free Edition was recommended to me by some friends and a relative who work in IT, so I thought they must know what they are talking about. You have to download this piece of software from a special free grisoft site. Sometimes this site hides, I think Grisoft would like people to buy their paid for version. I am quite sure that is a good product and if I was using it for business, I would probably pay, but FREE is a price I like better. Anything free can't be much good. WRONG! this really is an excellent and well respected antivirus. The version is regularly updated. Once it is installed on the computer, I can update the ... Read the complete review
