Advantages: It's probably the best suite from those free for personal use

Disadvantages: it's sometimes slow on it's work

Avg is totally free antivirus for personal use, it has all the most important features for a program of this kind and most of all provide a very good protection for your pc.

Avg is very easy to install, basically do everything by itself, it's very easy to configure and can scan your pc whenever you want it to, even when you are away, so it's really handy because it will not bother you when you are on the pc.

It has all the features a pricey antivirus and provide a good protection, it's updated almost daily and it's really very precise in it's search for virus/trojan and more.

It provide a good real time protection with it's scanner, it will control everything from normal internet activity to directory browsing to email.

The only thing that really is negative, probably, can be the memory use, this program it's very heavy on pc requisites, but will do a flawless work for a normal user, it's probably better to be safe than sorry and this program is surely one of the best free suite, even if it will slow down your pc in normal use a bit, especially mail scanning will be slower seen that the antivirus control every mail you get or send.

This program is very useful even with spyware, if you want to keep an all in one solutions, it will scan your pc even for them and remove them.

The last version, the 8.0 is available for Windows 2000 to later Microsoft OS until windows vista 64, but if you have a older pc you can probably still use a older program, probably the 6.0 will cover your pc even if not with all the possibility.

The real requisites are:

* Intel Pentium 300 MHz
* 30 MB free hard drive space (for installation)
* 256 MB RAM

so it will work on basically every pc.

In the end what can you ask more from an antivirus than to be almost totally reliable and to do a perfect job ?
