Disadvantages: You'll have to pay if you want AVG's full internet security package.

"Free antivirus software?! Must be rubbish then" I hear you say. But this little freebie holds it own against all the other big name AntiVirus software that's out there.

AVG has kept my computer and both my laptops virus free for over 2 years now. With constant updates, there's no need to worry about your definitions going out of date or your protection becoming obsolete.

Not only does the software protect you against viruses, it also detects and protects you from malware, adware, and right up to tracking cookies. The free version covers you will real time protection meaning that viruses are stopped before they can even install themselves into your system. AVG Free will also scan your incoming emails for any viruses, so no more worries of opening dodgy attachments.

If the features above weren't even enough, AVG Free also protects you in real time from threats on web pages with it's link scanner. If a suspicious page is detected AVG will stop you before you reach the page and inform you that the page could be harmful to your computer.

The level of protection is up to you with AVG, and the real time protection can be turned off if need be. The scan option is fullt customisable to either perform a quick scan over certain folders, or a full system scan if need be.

I think that ultimately AVG hope that you will buy their full protection package, that includes a firewall, and other internet security features. But their free AntiVirus software is just as good as the other big name products out there.

For free, it's a piece of software you really can't do without if you need AntiVirus protection. And by choosing AVG Free, be in no doubt that you will not be compromising your computers protection.
