Advantages: safe and free
Disadvantages: a few listed
we have been running the avg free edition of anti virus for the last few years on our computer at home without any problems.
This free edition is as good as any other protection that you can buy from the shops and doesnt cost you a penny, it automatically updates it self so you always have the newest protection running on your computer and you have the option of letting it do this automatically or doing it manually your self, you will know when it needs doing as the box in the tool bar at the bottom of your screen changes from being, red, yellow, blue and green squares to being a black and grey when a update is available.
The only down side to this soft wear that i have found is that of a morning when i first turn the computer on it scans my whole computer system for any bugs that have crept in, this slows your computer down for the first 10 minutes but other than this i have had no problems.
Avg runs in the background constantly wholst you are on the computer stopping anything before it gets through unlike other virus protectors that heal after the virus has entered your system.
By using avg you no longer have to worry about opening emails you dont recognise, visiting web sites or using payment details over the internet.
There is one slight draw back to this and that is that it is that secure some sites it wont let you access as it sees them as a threat but to combat this you can turn the protection level down.
