Advantages: free
Disadvantages: lacks full features
AVG antivirus is software for Windows operating software.
AVG has a free edition called AVG 8.00 and paid version which has many more features.
Some differences between the two products.
AVG free edition lacks few essential features.
It has no firewall.
It has less protection, missing is Anti-root kit detection which is only built into paid version
The updates of the product are less frequent than paid version.
There is no support for free ANG users.
One may argue that taking above facts into consideration AVG free edition is useless, not at all. In detection tests it has done very well, finishing in top 10 in most tests. AVG is very good in picking up viruses and deleting them. For this purpose alone I would recommend it as the best free anti-virus product out there. I would also suggest that anyone using it should add a good firewall, XP and Vista have built in firewalls or there is Free Zonealarm. You could download other spyware software too.
For a free product AVG 8.00 is very good. It lacks variety of features. Reliability of the product is proven. It is easy to use. Updates and scans are set to run automatically. It does take up PC resources but that is a small price to pay for a free product.
