I used to have McAfee on my computer as my antivirus software, but I found it slowed my system right down, caused problems with my internet access and generally made my life extremely difficult when it came to doing things on the computer. And to think I'd paid a fortune for all these problems!

So when my license expired, I decided to try something else and was told about AVG Free. I'd not used it before the end of last year and wasn't sure if it was really going to be any good, especially because it's free. I mean how much was I really going to get from a freebie?! But my mate assured me that they only give this out for free so that business users can see how good it is then give AVG big business contracts. Okay, so it's like a promotional tool, that makes a bit more sense.

Installing this onto my system was really easy and the whole process probably took less than half an hour in all. If it had of been any quicker, I'd have probably been worried it wasn't thorough enough. Setting it up was easy too and I just went through and selected the options I wanted (like scheduling daily scans).

I've found in nearly six months of use that my computer is running in excellent condition. I've not got anything happening to suggest traces of viruses or anything (like the computer running slowly) and I've not had any problems with my internet speed or applications.

AVG takes a few minutes to boot up each time I turn my computer on, but then Vista isn't exactly fast anyway so what's an extra two minutes really? For a free product, I really rate this and I'd have been happy even if I had paid for it. It's certainly been better than McAfee was, and I did pay for that.
