Advantages: free, easy use
Disadvantages: none!
After years of putting up with Norton on the family computer when I went of to Uni and got my own laptop I was determined not to have to put up with it anymore.
I chose AVG primarily because it was free, another massive advantage with it is the minimal use of system resources it requires allowing you to carry on using the laptop without noticing a significant drop in performance.
Installing AVG was a very simple process taking a matter of a few minutes. The automatic updates for AVG are regular and always very quick. AVG offers varying degrees of scans, from full system to much quicker scans. The full scans even on a 140gb hard drive are relatively quick when compared to other antivirus software. An Antispyware component is also present in AVG offering even more protection against malicious software.
AVG offers various options for 'upgrading' your software but this time at a cost. These include an ID protection system and Firewall, something worth considering.
So far I am very pleased with this product and never has it let me down or caused annoyance.
