Advantages: Email scanning, office scanning, auto updates, quick virus warning (if/when detected)

Disadvantages: None

I've had AVG installed on all the computers I've used on the internet for about 5 years, and I wouldn't use anything else. It's so simple to use and yet seems to detect viruses quick enough to stop me getting one on my pc.

AVG just seems to work on every computer I put it on, without any problems, no matter what version of windows it just does what its designed for- protects the computer. I think the installation process is quick and easy; in a few steps you can install AVG and configure it to update itself , scan your emails (I use Outlook Express) and also get it to scan any document opened in Microsoft Office. The email scanning is particularly useful, as it eliminates (well, almost) the chance of getting a virus by email. When receiving email AVG shows a little box over its icon in the task bar showing the progress of downloading/ scanning every email. It scans the emails very quickly, so I can't think of a reason not to have emailed scanning turned on.

I think it has an amazing amount of features for a free product, with no adverts or annoying popups or any other annoyances! An important point for any Antivirus program is I that they don't use up all your system's resources, and AVG uses very little. I've ran some pcs without any antivirus and then with AVG and there has been no noticeable decrease in performance.

On some occasions the later versions of AVG have mistakenly claimed some files have a viruses, when I'm almost sure they haven't (weren't detected by earlier versions of AVG). AVG does become a bit annoying, and keeps telling me there's a virus when I've had a file for years with no problems, but in the end I delete the file as AVG is always improving its anti virus and the file could have become infected.

Overall I think AVG is an excellent product. I tried AVG internet security (for a time limited trial from a magazine) but for me AVG free is perfectly adequate and I don't need the extra features in the paid for Internet security version.

Summary: The program I always have on my pcs (for years)!! Effortless to use, Great Virus alerts!
