Whilst reading a magazine article about anti-virus software, I was intrigued to learn that you could actually download free anti-virus software from the Internet.

I must admit I was quite sceptical about this as I thought "why is it free?" & "if it's free, then it can't be very good!" However, I have since been proved very, very wrong!

As I had purchased my PC second-hand from a friend, I already had a McAfee 95 Virus Scanner pre-installed, but I was doubtful whether it was completely up-to-date, so when I read about AVG Anti-Virus Software, free to download from www.grisoft.com, I thought "why not give it a try?!"

It was so easy & quick to download & it is dead-easy to use. The software interface itself is brightly coloured & cheerful, with large, easy-to-see link icons.

Not only does the software act as a boot-up scanner each time you turn your PC on, it also checks each individual e-mail attachment and it will also perform a scheduled daily virus scan of everything, at a time of day convenient to you. It also provides a virus database list and will update on a monthly basis.

I was so pleased with the software as a whole that I uninstalled my previous anti-virus software & now I just solely rely on AVG. During the few months which I have been using it, AVG has alerted me to two different viruses which have been sent via e-mail attachments.

To anybody out there still unsure as to what is the best anti-virus software to buy; don't bother spending £40.00 on a fancy new package, just visit www.grisoft.com & download for free; you won't regret it!
