Express Review on AVG AntiVirus Free Edition

As an anti virus it is not bad but it is asking me to restart my pc several times a week, which is a complete pain in the neck. Each time this is costing me more than 20 minutes, several times a week. Previously i was able to set my pc to 'hibernation' and keep every open, a useful windows feature, even if the laptop is off.

So i'm not sure i'll stay with AVG once the 2 years of my PAID licence is expired. Sorry AVG but 20 minutes several times a week is not acceptable.

This is a good anti virus program but it slows down the other programs that you are trying to access when it is doing the downloads for updates. Takes a long time to download the updates.

I remember the first time I discovered my laptop had a virus: I was devastated; my baby was sick!!! So I got online and started researching anti-virus software, expecting to have to fork out a small fortune for one of the big brand name packages. And then I stumbled across AVG - it was free and made great claims for itself, so I figured it was ...  Read the complete review

I have always tryed to find a decent free virus scanner, and came accros AVG about a year ago. And i thought that it was really good considering it's free (there is a premium edition but i wouldnt bother). This does what you want from a virus scanner. The first thing you will notice with this software is, just how often it updates its virus list. ...  Read the complete review

Not being an IT person by nature and training I needed some serious protection on my PC that does the business of keeping it safe from viruses of all kinds. It really is a jungle out there and if like me you don't know a trojan virus from a worm virus, you need help especially if you use the Internet a fair bit. The AVG free version is ...  Read the complete review

I had Norton Antivirus on my computer for years but was still hit by several viruses even though I was, apparently, fully protected and had paid loads out for upgrades. When my PC finally died (or so I thought) I had no alternative but to call in an engineer who managed to sort out the problem with my hard drive within 30 mins, got my ...  Read the complete review

I’ve been using AVG Anti-Virus software for almost as long as I’ve used MS Windows, having ‘grown-up’ with it through version 2 to the current 7. In all this time, I’ve NEVER had to reformat or rescue a PC thanks to one of the many ‘nasties’ that even make it to the TV News these days. The Sasser-Worm springs to mind ...  Read the complete review

I'm sure you will agree that using a computer, especially one connected to the Internet, is a hazardous business. Out there there are all sorts of unfriendly forces who seem to delight in causing mayhem, just because they can. Others have more malicious intentions, intent on getting their hands on your hard-earned savings or on stealing your ...  Read the complete review

Being a careful sort of person, with a husband who is something of an expert on computer security, we've always had some kind of virus protection installed on the family computers. Please carefully read the content of this review - I am concerned by the amount of positive reviews of this product. Even the most basic functions of an antivirus program (i.e. to actually detect viruses) fail to work in this program as it should. If it was a less important application I would not be worried. But as this product is an antivirus ...  Read the complete review
