My review is for iPlayer software that you install on the PC. This does not include using iPlayer via the webpage.

iPlayer via webpage is very good and runs fine on most of the modern PC. It is good value in return of silly TV License fees. It helps to catch up with missed programs and useful especially when nothing worthwhile is being aired on Telly.

So, after using it on web browser, I decided to install iPlayer software on PC, so I can download high quality programs. That was a big ( "BIG" ) mistake. The iPlayer softare is nothing but peer-to-peer filesharing softare like napster and emule etc. But this one is very poorly written and guarntees to eat you CPU and internet bandwith.

iPlayer softare uses Kontiki client, which is more like a trojan, which hides itself on you PC and very difficult to get rid off. Even if you uninstall iPlayer, this dodgy kontiki software stays on your PC and use your PC and internet for iPlayer file sharing without your permission and your knowledge.

I still wonder why no one has raised any concern about this clear breach of privacy.

The downloaded programs comes with expiry date, and automatically deleted from your PC. Also you can not copy them to MP4 player due to some copyright issues. So, why should I bother about iPlayer at all..

Stay clear of it.

Summary: Avoid installing iPlayer. Buy PVR if you are really into watching TV shows.
