Advantages: Great Quality

Disadvantages: Not All The BBC Shows

Iplayer is a very good application created by the BBC and particularly if you watch many different BBC shows, then Iplayer is almost a must. However it really does depend on what shows you watch and their are just mainly positives to Iplayer with the odd bad comment to make.

So I am sure everyone knows Iplayer is a website that is part of the BBC and on Iplayer you can access pretty much every show on the BBC that has been shown in the last few weeks and stream it straight to your Monitor.

Personally I do no watch too many BBC shows, however the shows I like to check out include The Apprentice, Friday Night With Jonathon Ross and Dragons Den. It is great to have the opportunity to catch up on these shows and everything is in decent very watchable quality, however it is not all positives.

There are certain BBC shows that are not available on Iplayer. The first is Match Of The Day, I think this is due to specific rights, that they cant store it on Iplayer for later viewing or something like that, buy I don't know the exact details. except that it is not available. Another strange choice is The Wire, the hit American TV shows, that BBC purchased all the rights for. The amusing aspect here is that this amazing show was shown at 11:20pm every night, which for people like me that work and have to sleep early, find it pretty ridiculous to stay up this late to watch this show and the show was on every day, so it is hard to watch it everyday at this ridiculous time. So you would think due to this, that The Wire would at least be on Iplayer, but again BBC did not get the rights to keep it on Iplayer. If BBC are going to buy something, then go all in and don't just be half hearted and take a risk.

Another great aspect of Iplayer is that you can download and store the shows for 28 days which is longer than is available to stream online. Also you can download special portable files, that allow you to watch it on portable devides, like the Ipod, Creative Zen and many other MP4 players and phones. This means that if you are on the move you can also access the Iplayer Shows.

So overall Iplayer is great for people who want to catch up on their BBC shows, however if you never watch BBC, then I really cant recommend Iplayer, but saying that it is definitely something that everyone should check out at some point.

Summary: With The Wire and MOTD this could be something special.

It drives me mad that the people who you'd think would benefit most from this (those of us Brits living abroad) can't use it, as you have to be withing the UK. I'm sure it's a licensing thing, but it's still ARGH.
