Advantages: Useful if you miss a BBC programme.

Disadvantages: Slow to load, restricted number of programmes.

iPlayer is a service which is available on the internet totally free of charge. Well, I say totally free but license payers have already paid for it. What the system does, put succinctly, is to allow you to watch a selection of already aired BBC TV programmes.

It's easy to use with high contrast interface and the menus are easy to navigate. I managed to find a couple of programmes I had missed during the past seven days quite easily. It only allows you to go back that far. TV programmes.

It's easy to use with high contrast interface and the menus are easy to navigate. I managed to find a couple of programmes I had missed during the past seven days quite easily. It only allows you to go back that far. You can, however, save programmes for future viewing. I currently tend to use it if I have missed an episode of Trawlermen because I'm following the series but don't always remember to switch the TV on.

I find that this is a bit slow to load although I have an up to date computer and 'fast' access through BT Broadband but perhaps the problem there lies with BT and is a subject for a separate review. The main problem I have with this is that I am on a broadband package that restricts usage and watching iPlayer tends to take me over that limit and cost money, so the idea that it could save money on a TV license is something really isn't feasible.

I have noticed that this service cannot be accessed from other countries. For example, a friend in Cyprus is denied access, apparently because of licensing regulations, or at least that is what she's told. So, don't think you can go abroad on holiday and still catch up on your favourite soaps.

This is an excellent idea and well worth using. It seems that this will be the way TV is delivered to our homes in the future, so we better get used to it.

Summary: This is the way TV will be in future so it's worth getting used to it. I like it!
