Advantages: Interface, help for beginners, not buggy, available for both Windows and Linux

Disadvantages: None

Although most people think that WYSIWYG HTML Editors are extremely useful, they seem to put lots of unnecessary code into your pages. It is time consuming when you try to remove them and you might make a mistake, which makes your page look funny. This is why I like using Coffeecup HTML Editor, as you have complete control of your code and even though it is not a WYSIWYG editor, it integrates with Internet Explorer, so when you use the preview function, it will show you what your page really looks like.

This HTML editor is designed for all levels of use even though it edits from code. It is full of features, has integrated FTP capabilities, is available now for both Windows and Linux and comes with Javascripts, DHTMLs and CGI scripts.

Those that know HTML can instantly start writing code while those with little or no experience can use the various buttons and menus to do their pages. You can easily design framesets, tables and forms, link to other pages and to email addresses and insert images. You can easily format text by making them bold, italic, underlined, changing the font and the size and by using paragraphs and line breaks.

It provides lots of help for the beginners and gives quick reference to HTML tags for those who are doing their HTML manually. You are provided with templates and you can make your own. For any special characters you need to use you can put them in as entities, which is a way of showing the special characters in a HTML page i.e. © as & copy;

There are lots of utilities in the editor that will help you in different ways, including a code cleaner to remove unnecessary HTML tags, add in any missing code and, if you want, output the results as XHTML and XML. The interface is laid out well, providing quick access to almost everything in the editor and it is colour coded, which makes it much easier to spot any mistakes that you have made.

The HTML Editor comes with some other pieces of software, Expre
sso FTP and Image Slicer. Expresso FTP is simply an FTP client for uploading files while Image Slicer slices up your large pictures into smaller ones, making them load faster and you can also link each smaller image up.

Although all this can be achieved using Notepad, you do not have to save it to view the results. Instead, you can preview the results via the editor or through your browser(s), which saves quite a lot of time. It is due to all these good points about the Coffeecup HTML editor that makes it my favourite HTML editor.
