A groundbreaking search engine, which shall change the way that men and women across the world search on the Internet from this day forward. Copernic I know seems to be a very strange name for a search engine, I mean its unique but this means that it is easy to remember. Copernic has been around for years and have endeavoured over the years to improve the quality of their service.

So what's the definition of Copernic? Basically it is a search engine that is unique in the way that it searches. Conventionally search engines such as yahoo and Google have simply relied on people logging onto the web, going to their site and then waiting for their search to load, but Copernic has pioneered into a whole new era. Instead of people going to their site to search, people simply load up the program on their computer and then type in a phrase that they which to search for. Of course one must be connected to the Internet. Copernic then retrieves websites containing information that is required. When the user clicks on the search results, the website loads up in a whole new Copernic style window in which internet explorer is customized into the soft circular textures of Copernic. This makes for easy searching and in addition it is also a change from the harsh, square shapes in the original, traditional Internet explorer.

Every time Copernic is started, it loads up and then updates its database so that any websites that have previously just been opened up can now be accessed. Considering that the Internet is constantly growing with new websites and pages, it is not unreasonable for Copernic to provide this utility, and in comes in hand when something that you could previously not find can now be found. Copernic's database is simply second to none. They have hundreds of thousands of millions of websites and they way in which Copernic searches is not only fast but also efficient.

After the searches for the required information have
been retrieved. Copernic then sorts the websites in rank, starting from the ones which are the best and contain the most information about your search to those that are the worst or least informative and contain the least information on the category that you are researching.

Copernic Pro takes a whole new outlook on searching than that of previous editions. Although Copernic Basic if free to download at the website free of charge it does not contain the functionality of Copernic Pro. By this I mean that certain features are not available on Copernic Basic that are on Copernic Pro. For instance on the Pro version you have choose to search in individual categories which means that the search is much more precise that just searching the entire web, bringing back more accurate results. For instance, there is a range of categories to choose from, ranging from mp3 to health and history.

But there are disadvantages to the marvellous Copernic Pro and it would be unfair of me not to outline these weaknesses. For instance, the load up time, of about 20 seconds on a Pentium based pc is a slight inconvenience and it doesn't contain the 'feel lucky' feature that Google does in which you can be taken straight to a random website rather than reviewing the results for your search. But in saying this considering the fact that to search at websites such as Google and yahoo one must first got to their site, which on a modem can take around 15 seconds so the time difference must not be overrated.

Copernic Pro only takes up a few mega bites on your hard drive, which is great for anyone with not a lot of free space. Copernic is definitely the best search engine out their and with the largest database who can deny this especially when it searches all the traditional search websites such as yahoo, excite, Lycos and Google in a fraction of a second it would take to search in each of the websites individually. In the search category, Cope
rnic rains supreme.
