Advantages: Alerts, highlighter wizard, 14 days listings (or more)
Disadvantages: Sometimes the updater crashes, not a problem really, just restart the updater.
The DigiGuide application for Windows is a fantastic piece of software. At first as you get used to it, you'll spend a lot of time learning the basics and brushing over how exactly the application works; learning how to use alerts effectively, marking all your favourite programs and getting to know the highlighter wizard... but this doesn't take long, it's very simple, even for a technophobes.
It's based on a huge database that is constantly updated over the web with the upcoming weeks TV listings. You can guarantee access to 14 days worth of TV, but many times, series of programs are uploaded and you have much more than just the standard 2 weeks!
What can you expect from the listings? Well, most listings are rated by the team at DigiGuide, so you can expect a certain amount of reliability in what they have to say. There's also a good description and the ability to find other programs of a similar name or genre! But really, the listing information isn't why this software is so successful... that's down to its features. Namely the alert system and highlighter wizard; two features I regularly use and have tremendous abilities!
The Alert system: Being able to set alerts on your favourite programs means you'll never miss them again! Whether you have on screen pop-ups that remind you a few minutes or hours before the program starts or use the SMS service of you don't always have your computer on. Amazingly the SMS service is free, so long as you are using the yearly subscription.
The highlighter wizard: Are you a fan of TV dramas? Maybe even TV series, but like to start from the beginning of a show, rather than settle for Series 3 that is currently playing? With the highlighter wizard, you can have DigiGuide highlight in the future the start of a series so forget tuning into Prison Break at Series 2, complete lost in the back story. If Series 1 is ever repeated, DigiGuide will be kind enough to remind you that it's soon to start! But it doesn't just stop at TV series, nope, films, documentaries, anything you want to be highlighted in the future can be, with a very quick and easy wizard!
When I first signed up to DigiGuide, it paid my £5.99 for a year's subscription. That's under 12p/week for a comprehensive TV guide that isn't even damaging the environment! Okay, the prices have increased a bit due to its popularity. It'll now cost you £14.99 for your first year's subscription (under 29p/week), and after that you can take advantage of the existing customer deals of £9.99/year (under 20p/week). Make sure to check here: http://www.digiguide.com/price-list/ for updates of the prices. The prices above are for 2009. These prices are remarkable considering you'll never have to go to the shops to buy a TV guide again, and there's a tone of features you won't get with a paper copy!
Summary: Never miss your favourite TV shows again with alerts and a highlighter wizard.
