Lets be honest it is not suprising that voice recognition software does not work very well, when we have enough trouble understanding each other and are capable of such a range of language how is a mere computer supposed to stand a chance. I know that gradually this field wil get better but at the minute the scope of voice controlled computers is a way off. I got this package and installed it and went through the training program. That was annoying enough - trying to read to the computer and it telling you to speak naturally but no matter how 'naturally' I tried to speak it stubbornly refused to recognise some of the most simple words. ... It's that terrible. I've really tried my bets to come along the road with dragon systems. I've been there at each stage of the way with every version of their software and to be honest they never really seem to improve. Sure they get support built-in for more software but they never do what you want correctly. I'd have tried writing this opinion with DD but to be honest it'd have taken me about 15 minutes and would have been more like the subject line than proper text. The interface is terrible and it really does slow-down your machine. I've tried running this latest version on an Athlon 600 with 256MB of RAM with no jow. It ... Read the complete review

I am surprised that others have not had much success with Dragon Naturally Speaking v4. Personally I think its really wonderful. I work professionally with this product, training disabled students how to use it properly. With previous versions you have to go through a really long setup procedure and talk for ages and ages - a real bore, and at the end of it it still wasn't really up to much. Version 4 is another story though, but IMPORTANTLY - only if you have an Intel Pentium 3 processor. Without that chip you cannot access the enhanced features of the new version. With a PIII processor the training time to setup the software is so short that you can be up ... Read the complete review

This is truly amazing and now Standard Version 4 is free with Jan 2001 PC Pro Magazine. Even with the minimum of training, you can use this product to create letters and simply by speaking to your computer. It goes without saying, that I have written this appear using Dragon NaturallySpeaking standard version 4. Or rather it doesn't go without saying because of the way that this product functions! What is even better news, is that the full product of Dragon NaturallySpeaking standard version 4 is now available free of charge on the cover disc of PC Pro for January 2001. Not bad for an investment of £2.99! The application allows you to ... Read the complete review

In a word... Yes!! I've always been interested in voice recognition and every now and again would try a different product - but this one is the first I've been REALLY impressed with. Installation was simple and then training took around 10 minutes or so. I used the shortest learning text so in theory this should give the poorest results, but after the computer had done its stuff, I was presented with a wordpad style window which I could speak into. Starting off with "This is a test" (as I guess many people do) proved easy enough for the software. The words appeared correctly within a few seconds. If something appears ...
